The food is fabulous, the staff is attentive and very professional. Ask for a "Love Martini." Godiva white chocoloate liquer, Chambord & Vanilla Stolichnaya Vodka. Mmmmmmmmm!

I really like this quaint, uptown place, it is a bit pricey but worth it. I had the monkfish and it was to DIE for! Really good service, perfect for a date.

RestaurantsEvery tourist in San Diego is told about the Gaslamp Quarter and Hillcrest. Both areas are wonderful, but for something special that is a local secret, try the Kensington Grill. The Kensington grill is next door to the Ken theater which nightly plays different art films. It is a small and secluded place on Adams Avenue in the Kensington section of San Diego.
The grill items, as you might guess, are delicious. The vegetarian grilled vegetable lasagna I had there my last visit was enough to make me want to recreate the sandwich scene from When Harry Met Sally. It was that good. Other items on the menu have had similar effects on myself and friends when we have gone there.
For a good romantic date, start with dinner at the Kensington Grill and finish with a foreign movie at the Ken or start with the movie and end with one of the Kensington Grill's desserts.
The only strike, for me, at the grill is that some of the tables are a bit dark and shadowy. Of course, depending on what you do between courses, that might be a plus.
PROS: Great service, great price, quick turnaround time
CONS: some tables are slightly dark

Kensington Grill is located in a great pocket of San Diego. Adjacent to the independent "Ken" theater, it is an excellent restaurant for a "dinner and a movie" date. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in neutral colors. The bar is well stocked and they offer half price bottles of wine on Wednesday nights. They recently added a small boutique of gift and gourmet items in the waiting area.
The menu chagnes through the seasons. I highly reccomend the carmelized onion tart and mango-brie quesadilla for appetizers. The entrees are well done, though the vegetarian options are hit-or-miss.
