Aloha Tiki Tom's! Enjoyed myself a great cocktail & lunch at this downtown Walnut Creek location earlier this month.

LOCATION: On Olympic Blvd strip in the Broadway Plaza vicinity btw S.Main & Locust (or btw California Pizza Kitchen & Cheesecake Factory). Restaurant store front appears smalls, but opens fairly nicely with 4-seater tables, bar booths, & high chair 4-seater booths along the wall.

CUST SVC: Kimber, who was the Hostess/Waitress/Bartender, was great! Not much of a lunch crowd in here on a Thursday afternoon, & no complaints w/ myself or Sher K w/ that ;-) My 1st time @ Tiki Tom's; Kimber was patient, pleasant, & quite helpful. Mahalo (Thank You) Kimber!

COCKTAIL: For all their featured cocktails, you can order just the cocktail @ standard price, or purchase the tiki mug w/ ur drink ($2 discount basically if you wanted to come in purchase mugs alone), then spend $6 on refills; prob useful if u plan to stay few hours drinking it up. Colleague got their Lava Flow while I opted for the Coconut Monkey. Both cocktails were pretty good. Lava Flow for $8 similar to all other Lava Flows out there, creamy, light alcohol taste, & good. My Coconut Monkey came in a glass tiki cup for $7.50 (or u could pay $15 for a tiki mug to take home); another light alcoholic drink 2-thumbs up from light weight here *tee-hee".

FOOD: Colleague & I went w/ their Lunch Special for $7.95; get entree w/ fries OR mac salad & sticky rice. Colleague got the Teriyaki Steak w/ mac salad & rice; steak was cooked & seasoned nicely. At first glance I asked if they had pineapple in their mac salad...about several bites in she did find her pineapple, or noticed at least; she enjoyed her lunch entree. I got the Red Stripe Beer Batter Dipped Mahi Mahi w/ sweet potato fries. This dish prob best served w/ mac salad & rice, but I had plans to taste Sher K & wanted to try their sweet potato fries out *tee-hee*. Very pleased w/ this dish! Mahi Mahi wasn't heavily covered w/ batter, yet a very nice crunch on outside; tender white inside to break w/ fork AND taste..quite yummy. Could've use more tartar sauce, but it was really fine w/o it. The sweet potato fries did not let me down either! So glad I don't have to travel to The Counter for these now (although no special sauce for sweet potato fries like The Counter *sigh*).

FINAL TAB: Our final tab came to $33 & some change. Not bad on our pocketbook & quite pleased w/ our hawaiian lunch getaway down the street. Definitely would consider coming back here, trying out the Oakland location, & recommend all we ate & drank ;-) Scrum-didly-umptous folks!
----------------
NOTES: Kimber advised us THIS location (as they're not affiliated to Oakland location) has the following specials:
---* TACO TUESDAY starts 5pm includes fish, pork, steak
---* HAPPY HOUR starts 3pm
======== $1-off draft beers & wine
======== $2-off any liquor
======== $2-$3 on their appetizers

No matter how many fancy bars and Restaurants come and go in Walnut Creek, Tiki Toms will always be my favorite place to go. Wonderful staff, amazing food, drinks, and music. Darrin and his brother Rick are the owners, they are so cool to hang out with. I love this place.......

Tiki Tom's is the Islander equivalent of an Irish Pub; the room is split pretty evenly, half dining room, half bar, with the emphasis/attendance mostly focused on the bar aspect.

What I hear, from people who's "Hawai'ian food" palate I trust implicitly, is that the menu here has some standout winners, but for our evening, we ended up ordering only the appetizer sampler (Filipino parents/grands are weird, they eat before going out because they don't want me spending too much money on them!) Pele Wings (a sweet/spicy hot-wing), eggrolls/lumpia, Teriyaki pork rib tips, and a mound of fried Maui onion strings, all of which were pretty good.

Decorated mostly in niche souvenir-ish Hawai'iana like bamboo, tiki masks, retro surf prints, the decor borders on tacky IF the place were meant for a discerning clientele. However, the place seems to be a little more patronized by, well. meatheads.

Before 8-ish, the place is marginally suitable for family dining (adults, parentals, not so much for kids), but after 8-ish the place becomes a hunting ground for the "a-yo" printed-thermals types and frat-bro sports caps crowd. I know some of the ladies like to go out looking like 31 Flavors of "ooh YUM", and the attention is sometimes flattering, but some of these boys are an "ooga ooga" short of being Neanderthals, so please be careful, girls, ya heard?

I've never eaten here but had a fair share of liquid dinners at Tom's. Love the decoration, crowd is usually pretty cool, best to go with some friends instead of trying to meet people here though. Some nights there are bands, football on the big screen during season. Excellent list of fun drinks - beware the Navy Grog!! Go for no more than two mixed drinks or you may not make it to the next watering hole!

You know what I mean when I say GREAT drinks. I mean they're nice and loaded! Plenty of the "el booz-o". Well Sammy, the head barkeep, does a fine job of pouring out some of the best libations I've had. Foods pretty good too. The Ahi is one of the best here on the mainland. Also, as a "drunk old man" I can say that the "talent" that frequents this place is FINE. No I don't mean HOT, I mean FINE...Freaked-out, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional. Of course I find most Walnut Creek folk to be that way anyhow. But hey, no place is perfect right? But then not everybody like me is from Hawaii either. Aloha.

Tiki Tom's is fine for a quick drink or two and a couple of apps. it tends to get a little over crowded during happy hour but thats just the name of the game in Walnut Creek. The food is ok, service could be better. they have fat tire on tap wich is always nice...

Went on Friday around 7:30-8:00. Great Hawaiian band and hula dancers. Had a couple drinks and appetizers. Drinks were good, food was so-so. The décor and atmosphere was fun and island-y!!

After 9:00 pm, everything changed. Got accosted by two old (I mean OLD) drunk (I mean DRUNK at 9:45) guys. Mid-to-late 30s guys in suits looked terribly out of place. 20-something guys with absolutely no game. Bartenders were not terribly friendly. Took 40 minutes just to close out tab (after asking three times).

My advice, go early, have a few drinks, enjoy all of the great things about this place, then GET OUT and go somewhere with better service and people.

Pros: Fun Hawaiian feel, Yummy blended drinks

Cons: Drunk old men, v. loud, dumb young guys
