When my car broke down in Newport Beach on a Saturday night, I called AAA for assistance. Since I live in the San Diego area (more than a hundred miles away), I asked for a recommendation for a local repair facility, and they suggested The Tune-Up Shop, so that is where the car was towed. I called The Tune-Up Shop on Monday morning and explained to Grant Burris what had happened, and shortly after that he called me back with a diagnosis and an estimate for repairs, which was quite reasonable. The shop made the repairs that day, and I picked up the car late the same afternoon. It has run perfectly since that time. I received excellent attention and first-rate service from The Tune-Up Shop. I couldn??t be happier.

I was recommended to Grant Burris for his expertise on classic cars. I found out the hard way that Grant and his crew don't know a thing about diagnosis and repair. I was having engine problems with my Chevelle. Grant diagnosed a top end problem and did repairs. The car still ran bad. I took it back and Grant went deeper in the motor, but it still had the same problems. Up to this point I had spent almost $4000. When I took the car back to Grant, he suggested that the motor might need a rebuild. This motor was a brand new chevy 350 crate motor. Unbelievable! I was so frustrated at this point, that I sought a second opinion. The second shop diagnosed some minor repairs. I accepted the service and haven't had a problem since. I was just floored at how incompetent Burris was. He's a real nice guy and is real convicted in making you believe that he is an expert. His conviction justifies his outrageous prices too. But in the end he did a bunch of nothing. He wasted my time and money. Every time I took the car back, he put more blame on the motor and less on his diagnosis, and as such, he kept charging me more and more. The second shop handled the problem in less than an hour. How can Burris call himself a mechanic. He's just a salesman with little technical know-how.

Well, they got my classic car running, but 'ole Grant stuck it to me in the bill at the end. He quoted one price to me, and gave me high written estimate, and then when I received the bill I felt like I just took my car to a "stick up your butt car dealership". We've all been there. They are mostly all crooks, right? Well Grant is no different but just nicer on the surface. He schmoozed me really well! Told me the story about how he sells "feel good". Please I almost barfed. Grant use to be in the car business, Buick dealer I think, so he has the car dealer "rip you good" in his blood. My recommendation, If you have unlimited money, your car is your baby, and you are cool with the feel good approach, then go to this dude. Otherwise, avoid or you will feel like you took your ride to some Car Dealership and got the usual screw job!

The Tune Up Shop is Outstanding! And honest! I took my car to several places before a friend mentioned to me: Go see "Grant" at the Tune Up Shop he can fix anything. Sure enough I did and all my problems were solved. My car was tuned, oiled and lubed. It runs smooth and quiet. Grant and his team work on all cars no matter how old or new. They did a very detailed inspection on my car to make sure it was once again safe to drive. They also repaired my electric sliding door and wheelchair ramp. I highly recommend this place!

I went to Tune Up Shop in costa mesa with a friend to get a transmission service and safety inspection. This place seems to be a favorite for people with classic cars and hot rod enthusiasts. The people here are very helpful, and the mechanics are quite obviously knowledgable. My friend was satisfied with the work and I'd recommend this place to anyone.

    Message from Tune Up Shop

We are a full service shop that caters chiefly to Classic American Cars and modified cars like street rods. We fabricate those items that cannot be purchased readily. We frequently invent those systems that have not been offered by the aftermarket industry. That includes electrical systems, fuel systems, and suspensions. We treat each vehicle not matter how costly as if it were the only car and owned by us. Our warranty? Forever. If you require additional warranty, please call us first.
