Brought my Mercedes to Genes to have the hood and grill replaced after I was in an accident. They did an excellant job and my car looked like new afterwards. In fact I think it looks better now than before my accident. They cleaned it

Like many folk, I've had bad experiences with auto body shops. Not so at Gene's Import Auto Body in Sand City. I've needed repairs four times over the past ten years, and each time have been very pleased with the results. Prices seem fair, in line with other shops I've used in the past. But the attention to detail and expertise in repairing my Infiniti has been very satisfying. The paint match (Desert Platinum) was absolutely perfect each time. Seems like auto insurance companies like dealing with Gene's, too, as my agent nodded approvingly when I first said I wanted to try out this shop. In short, I hope I don't have to use Gene's any time soon, but if I do, I know I'll be in competent, fair hands.

If i could give negative stars I would. We dropped the car off on Monday and they said it would be done on Friday. We then called on Friday to see when we could pick it up and they said next Wednesday because "they ordered the parts late" which is a great excuse. Then we called on Wednesday and they it would not be done till Monday now because "they had more cars than expected so it was in line to get painted" which, again, is their own fault. They never called once to inform us of these delays, we would not have found out if we did not call.
So we finally get the car in twice the amount of time that they originally told us and they did not do everything they quoted us and the insurance company but still took the money for it all!!! They took the insurance check when they never painted the trunk of the car like they quoted and promised and could not give any reasons why. This business is waaaaaaay too greedy and does not care about customer service. I highly recommend for everyone to take their car anywhere else on the Monterey Peninsula than to Genes Auto Body!

Gene's did a great job on my 2008 BMW M3. They were friendly, completed the job in a timely manner and did excellent work (they even buffed out a scratch on my bumper without charging me for it).

I was concerned after reading the last review that the paint wouldn't match (especially so because my beamer has a metallic silver paint job), but it matched perfectly.

Gene was a friend of a friend whom I respect because of his professional experience with auto paint and detailing. I spent extra time with my insurance company in order to get my body work done at Gene's.
The service and estimate writer were pleasant and I was able to set a date to bring the car in almost immediately. I was told the job would take about 7-8 business days.
Fortunately I had a rental paid for by my insurance company because this job took almost a month.
When I got the car, it looked all buffed and shiny with no dents...it all looked good and I was happy...but I did notice it wasn't "matching the rest of the car". but I figured I just wasn't going to be able to get it perfect like the rest of the car. It didn't take long here on the Peninsula for our weather to erode at what I came to find was just a "wax job" and then it really started to look bad.
My car now has VERY visible differences in the paint that I just cringe over. Every time I get in my car i feel like I'm just shaking my head in disappoint. But again, thinking "I'm not going to be able to get bodywork look like new," i just sort of "lived with" the car. It wasn't until I got rear-ended, and had to get a new bumper that I realized you can get a "new" look a car. Not wanting to deal with Gene's again, I took the recommendation from my insurance company and went to Roberts Auto Body.
Excellent job...and it took only 2 more days than I was quoted (my car company apparently sent the wrong bumper)
So finally I got fed up enough and said this needs to be amended. I went back to Gene's and I have never be so RUDELY treated by a place of business. When i said that I was unhappy with the work, Gene quickly pointed out to me recent door dings, saying to me "You don't take care of my car" ..as if to say that exempts their work. He kept pointing out the dings saying "So what am I supposed to do with those?! Clearly you don't take care of your car."
I told him I didn't need the dings taken out, I just want the paint to match the rest of the vehicle. I had to repeat myself again after he brought up the dings again! (I swear it almost seemed comical when he kept bringing this up...but it also a little scary.. as he was running on cylinders or something. ..maybe too much exposure to the paint)
When I said "Gene, for the third time, we do not need to do anything with the dings," he told me to "Get out of here...and don't come back"
HOLY CR@P! ARE YOU SERIOUS??!! Needless to say I was pi$$ed but at this point, I'm just letting my insurance company handle this.
I'm sure Gene's can occasionally do a good job, but seriously consider the time it's going to cost you renting a car and the customer service afterward if you're not satisfied with the job.
I understand that people make mistakes or maybe have a bad day...but as a business owner, I feel one must be committed to making things right...and that does NOT seem to be a philosophy at Gene's Auto Body

My car has been in the shop for two weeks. I had only minor damage. The original due date passed without a call explaining why my car was not ready. I had to call the next day (Friday) to find out the NEW DUE DATE was Tuesday after the weekend. Tuesday rolls around and again, no call from Gene's. So I call before closing that day and receive another due date. They told me they just had to paint the hood and it would probably be out the next day or Thursday, but probably Thursday. Well, today is Thursday and it is about 12:00, with no call from Gene's. If it might have been done yesterday and "will definitely be done today" why have I not received a call? I am going to make a personal appearance today whether my car is ready or not. TWO DEADLINES IS WRONG BUT THREE?? C'MON!

Just because they work on the best, there prices can be lower than many repair shops because the state of the art equiptment they have can get the job done much faster. Many shops in the area will bring there problem cars to Gene's to repair. They have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in having the best equiptment to put your car back to preaccident condition. They have 3 estimators, each having more than 20+ years experience. The techs. have been there for over 20 years. They are honest and will work hard to get you back into your car.
