I am a travel nurse who interviewed with Kaiser Permanente Downey. I had a bad feeling about the whole process and ended up turning the job down. As a result, some spiteful person at the facility put me on a permanent "Do Not Hire" blacklist for EVERY Kaiser facility in the U.S. How petty does it get? I guess my intuition about them being an undesirable facility was correct. I am upset about it, but also relieved that I am not working for such a company.

Dear Kaiser Permanente Patients: DO NOT TRUST KAISER PERMANENTE.

Kaiser isn't health insurance. They are a chain of TEACHING HOSPITALS and WILL use their members body parts to educate their Graduate Medical Education Program residents.

Kaiser is the worst insurance we have ever had. We paid 2 premiums up front, was a nightmare just enrolling. Despite coverage, we were unable to access any member benefits for 28 DAYS because we were not entered in the computer system, and I was very ill. I had to pay out over $4600 cash despite beging covered by Kaiser, as they would not honor our benefits. Submitted claims to several departments only to be denied despite it being their fault. We submit the same paperwork over and over, they keep calling asking the exact same questions. Nobody knows what they are doing. Doctors have not read member services book to know what their job is. ER doctor refused to refer me out to specialist, when the book says he is supposed to.

Despite a referral to pain clinic, they have never called me back!!!! Still have not filled my meds, and my husband is in the Kaiser Downey in severe pain, starving, and stomach problems besides his fractured back!! Run, do not walk from this insurance. A complete joke!!!

Now my husband sustained an L2 vertebral compression fracture in an accident. Was taken to an outside hospital, where they were going to perform a kyphoplasty/vertebral augmentation procedure to treat the fracture and pain, so he would be able to return to normal activities in a few days. Kaiser picked him up before they could do this, took him to the Downey facility, let him suffer in extruciating pain, hooked up a BROKEN PCA AND GAVE HIM NO ORAL MEDICATIONS. He is lying there screaming in pain, and the doctor refuses to do a kyphoplasty but instead just gave him a brace and now he will have to lie in bed for 6 months unable to do much of anything or take care of me and in severe pain. I am disabled, and he is my caregiver and driver. We own a business.

They also have a policy for pain patients where you have to go to a facility way far away and enter a full-time pain program several times a day. This ensures that you will lose your job and be forced to go on MediCal or Medicare, so the government will pick up the tab instead of Kaiser. They have a very short list of "authorized medications" (the cheapest, noneffective ones) and even if you have a history of severe allergies to it, they do not care. They only care about money, not patients. The paperwork alone is a full-time job, a complete joke.

My spouse has been in and out of the emergency and hospital. We have always had to best care and attention. IT is a shame that people use the ER for checkups for colds, coughs or doctor excuses.... Attentive nurses and no nosense doctors are great....

New facility in Downey is Bellflower with new shoes! I had an experience with a family member being hospitalized through this facility. It would take pages to tell you what happened but she died. I can't believe this could have happened. Who would have ever believed that putting a loved one in the care of people that should have helped her would end like this.

Kaiser is terrible at posting phone numbers for the different depts. It have spent the last 2 days trying to get a phone number to the dept. I want. I have been transferred, many times, and no one nows anything. It is ridiculous. Every time, just to ask for a phone number I have to start from scratch and enter my medical record number, and then they transfer me again, and here I go again. It was faster for me to drive over there and tell them what I need than to try calling.

I WISH I HAD ANOTHER PROVIDER NEAR BY SO I CAN DUMP THESE MORONS.

This hospital is a disaster waiting to happen. They weed out the good physicians and keep the bad ones apparently. No compassionate care whatsoever; I used to work there and I know

On Jan. 6th, 2009, my autistic son was seen by Dr. Nyguen because he had a severely lacerated and swollen ear (from self abusive behaviors). Dr. Nyguen was less than helpful. Instead of treating the injured ear, he callously sent my son away, saying, "make an appointment with an ENT for surgery." When the caregiver present with my son (I was in san diego at the time) told the doctor I wanted to speak with him regarding my son' s severely injured ear, the Dr. said, "I don't talk to nobody." Apparently, he is either English challenged or he's nuts. A sociopath. Worse, a narcissitic freak who didn't give a rat about my son. This man should be FIRED. He has put my son at grave risk. He actually told the caregivers present that my son has "internal bleeding" and then split...telling them to make an appointment with ENT tomorrow! What kind of a negligent fool is this clown? Somebody look into this weirdo and have him immediately FIRED. He has no buisness working with developmentally disabled populations. Kaiser should be ashamed to hire someone like this on their staff.

I'm really disappointed in the appointments guidelines. What is the point if you have a regular doctor and you are always unable to see the physician. Please help me understand. Thanks

I was with this Kaiser Permanente over 13 years. They do have good nurses however, I had to switch around with doctors to actually get a good doctor. There pharmacy is pretty good and never too busy. Parking can be problem at this location.
