My wife had an appointment at Avia in February, and really enjoyed it especially the great work by Jill. However, more than 40 days later Avia charged our credit card $400 for nothing. Repeated calls, emails, and visits to the spa meant

I am addicted to the spray tanning salon - they do a great job. No streaks, spots, or uneven spots. It's the best one I've found in Santa Barbara for a natural looking tan.

I also get body wraps and pedicures here. I love the calm waiting area with the fountain - so relaxing. I've only ever had good service and felt very pampered. The pedicure was comparable to every other pedicure I've had for the price and the staffer was very friendly.

This is a great facility, I have gone to Bacara, Walter Claudio and other spa's in town and this by far is the nicest facility I have gone to. Serene atmosphere with full shower facilities, dry eucalyptus saunas, and a peaceful tea lounge area . It also has wood tones of custom built Japanese Massage Huts with a soothing sounds of a trickling waterfall. They offer both Eastern and Western Treatments, I have gotten Swedish, Deep tissue, and their signature stone glow scrub which they use hot stones while running a vichy shower on top of you; its to die for. The Massage therapists are great, I have had Soliet (hopefully spelling it right), Rachel and Dante. All of them carrying, professional and have a great touch.

Avia spa was recommended by a friend, and I chose the salon because they are one of the few I could find in Santa Barbara who use Brazilian hard wax for bikini waxes. I have sensitive skin and coarse hair so this is the only kind of wax I can have it done with and not end up with awful problems afterward.

I phoned and was told that there was only one aesthetician who used this type of wax, and was given a possible appointment time. I told the receptionist I'd have to call and see if my sitter was available at that time. By the time I called back to confirm, they had given the appointment away to someone else.

I decided to go ahead, and book a different time, even after that experience of poor service, because I really needed to get in for a wax. Bad idea.

When I arrived and the aesthetician was preparing to do my treatment, I saw her getting the hot wax ready. I ended up spending the next 10 minutes having to debate with her whether or not I needed the hard wax, as she was only planning to use it in the most sensitive areas (I was getting a modified Brazilian). She tried to convince me that their hot wax was different, and that different formulas react differently with different skin, etc. (After years of experimentation and suffering, I'd concluded that I wasn't willing to try any more types of hot wax).

She was incredibly rude, and the simple fact that I had to argue with her about my preference left me flabbergasted. I even offered to pay more if it was an issue of the cost of the wax, etc.

After all that, she agreed to just try a bit of the hot wax on the edges to see if my skin reacted. (It did). I went along with it because I was so uncomfortable and tired of debating with her. She of course did more than just the edges.

To top it all off, she left the upper portion uneven, and missed a ton of hair everywhere else.

I'll never return to this spa for another service again.
