I still really appreciate the old market on Church Street--great produce, friendly and knowledgeable owners/staff. The new store a few doors down has left me very unhappy. In fact, I've walked out after grabbing all my items and taking them to the register. The cashier they have, an asian woman who was not at the other store, is horrendous. She's not pleasant, and she's totally incompetent. I was purchasing five items that should have come out to about $30. How did she manage to charge me for almost 10 items for about $50? This is the third time I've gone into the store, the third time she's been my cashier, and the third time I left very unhappy. This time though, I left everything at the counter after she couldn't explain to me how I was being charged for more items than I was purchasing for more money too (one item she had me charged 3x, two other items 2x each). I didn't want to wait for another 10 minutes to have her sort this out. I left.

This is after watching how she charged the two people in front of me --- no interaction. She talks on the phone well (I don't think they're customers on the phone). She rings you up without any friendliness -- might as well go to Safeway across the street. Safeway employees have been very friendly with a few exceptions, and they know how to handle a cash register.

I won't be going back to the new Golden Product market until things chane. BTW, I'm a vegetarian but buy meat for my dog. The butchers are very nice at the new market. Just trade in the one cashier, and I may go back.

Golden Produce has opened a second store on Church Street (across from Safeway) that sells organic/natural meat ?? something hard to find in the Castro/Duboce area up to now. The prices are competitive too. The new store has all sorts of goodies ?? such as Point Reyes blue cheese, Strauss ice cream, Green & Black chocolate bars, etc. And the people who run it are always friendly and helpful. Really handy if you're coming home from work and hop off at Church Street or the N line.

An excellent addition to the neighborhood!

This place is usually well-stocked and not too pricey, even though it is small. They have some great organic fruits and vegetables and the produce tastes amazing. I love their bananas. They also have some cheeses and sauces. On the outside, this place doesn?t look that good, but it?s the inside that counts! The service here is mediocre however, but I don?t really mind.

I miss this place. I lived a couple blocks away for a couple years and always made the trip to Golden Produce *after* hitting the Safeway across the street.

Family run by folks that stock high quality produce. There's some organic stuff, but mostly just well-priced high quality goods - these are grocers, not cause crusaders.

You'll also find some good canned goods and some frozen foods - if you look above and below you'll see they've managed to use every inch to increase the selection available.

Tip: They usually have frozen kaffir lime leaves at the bottom of one of their freezer units.

PROS: Quality Produce at a good price
CONS: An extra stop
