I moved to Encinitas in October of 2007 and researched several schools and found a very accomodating and welcoming staff at Great Beginnnings in Encinitas. I had a good amount of contact with the teacher of my sons class, and she was very communicative when there were things we needed to work on, both on the discipline and educational sides. I am also very happy that other staff members who interact with my son feel and show a great deal of caring for him and want to see him suceed. I always feel that the door is open for communication. He has come so far since October, and is entering kindergarten this fall.
I felt there was a good mix of structure and free play, it seemed pretty organized, and I have a huge stack of worksheets and artwork, I was bringing great stuff home every day. I also really like the "camp" aspect of the summer, it makes me feel like he was able to have some fun during the summer and enjoy the down time. The weekly themes for camp were geared toward fun and exercise and with some informal learning thrown in. All in all I am very satisfied with the school, the owners, the staff and feel that they all really care for the well being and learning of the children. You will see fancier schools that look newer, but the facilities or more than adequate and the teaching and caring are top notch.

My son graduated from this school after attending for 3 years on a full-time basis in June 2007. He enjoyed his days participating in the interactive curriculum and was supervised by caring and engaged teachers. The hours were very flexible and accommodated our busy schedules and the staff and management kept us continuously abreast of any situation involving our son or general school matters. I would be happy to recommend this school to local parents and feel extremely appalled at some of the criticism written by one parent. Take a look for yourself and visit the school before making your decision.

No structure, no toys unless they go outside, no reading, art just walk around a tiny room like drones very dingy. Play ground is old and one plastic slide 3 toy cars. Never saw the teacher in the entire 3wks always tchr aide with the kids alone. My son open the 1/2 size door as these baby experts put a latch on the baby side where if the baby is smart engough he/she could open. My son did escape apparentley he unlocked the little latch on the babys side - then he went for a stroll around the preschool. When I came to pick him up they said your son got out like it was his fault. 15 months old and inquisitive yep sounds like his fault.... Baby proof maybe good idea. I came to get him thursday and the outer door was proped open and todler door still not baby proof to date. My son could of got completley out. My son started expressing severe frustration at 2weeks in, crying, hitting etc. non behaviors at home. They kept expressing to me how bad he was- I expressed back maybe he is acclimating, definatley teething, board, nonstimulated, tired of walking in a closet and being straped to a chair for not knowing how to express him self as he is a hole 15 months. He should know better... Geese I thought these people were certified and know how to help children aclimate and work with the parents? Nope not here. As the Experts who I left my son with you would think they would know comon ways to handle situations and give the parents advise to continue at home. I say to the woman owner "tell me what I can do to help" dead stare , response was I dont know. Looked at me like I raised a monster when really it I belive it was them "not knowing how to deal with common todler issues". My child before great beginins would read, do art, color, listens to music, puzzles and likes one on one. At this place he had no stimulation and just walked around a closet size room with no toys yep I would probably hit too. Going from mobile to being straped to a high chair most of the day because they were not educated how to take care of children who thrive in a montosorri enviroment. High chair used for time outs. Which I had said please use the crib no more than 2 minutes or remove him from the situation. Once I walked in and all 4 kids were straped down in chairs and it was not lunch or snack time. Poor things I feel bad for the ones left there. Parents this place is usafe, old, and dirty. The play yard has one plastic slide and 3 cars for the toddlers. older kids have a buch of junk just old cars and some balls and fire exits that open with trees in pots blocking them in hopes they do not excape. Does anyone know if a fridge in the toddler care room is leagle I heard of babies opening it and going inside - could be fatal. My son was always in the chair for that also. If you know let me know I am curious. So friday they are again complaining in the morning about my son and the owner says maybe you need to get him a phyciatrist - for being in three weeks and hitting once in awhile....15 mo at a phsyicatrist this guy is a genius....."maybe I can try hypnotisim istead of talking to the child finding out what they are upset about... Real expert. How about you get some training on how to acclimate children and setup a program that stimulates them. Quit using teachers aides and get a teacher. clean the place up and become complaint with the law - if anything baby proof. You have precious children in your care. They need to learn to deal with all types and work with them not just complain - new enviroments are scarry and at 15 months how else do you communicate? By the way send me my deposit and his picture also my credit on the invoice you gave me Monday. I wanted to share with parents the truth. But I also want my money I paid in advance deposit/credit on invoice paid Monday and my sons picture - Sorry parents... Just thought they may read - Please email me if you have ques. amysmith01@hotmail.com
