Love Dempsey's! They serve great food and beer. The menu has an eclectic mix that never fails to delight. The waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable. And the onion rings are a family favorite!

Dempsey's is our #1 restaurant in Petaluma for casual or evening a special night out. We love sitting outside and watching the egrets perching in the trees, while enjoying their home brewed beer and fresh local food!

This restaurant is by the Petaluma River. They have a
outside patio you can eat on. They have a good selection
of sandwiches and salads. The prices are good. The
staff is helpful and friendly.

Their food is good, but a little overpriced. I love the outside patio which is close to the Petaluma River (which isn't the prettiest of rivers). It's nice to eat here and then walk over the bridge into downtown.

Dempsey's is located by the river at the end of the walking bridge. They produce their own tasty beer and delicious food. There is a large patio by the river where dogs can be tied to the fence to watch there family eat. It's a friendly atmosphere with a friendly wait staff.

We went there around 8pm on a Friday night and the place was packed. There were 7 of us and they don't take reservations on the weekends (and yes, Friday night is considered part of the weekend), so we had to wait a bit. Once we were seated, the service was good. My husband and I both had the flat iron steak with summer salad. Amazing! Peppery steak and fresh crunchy greens. I can't wait to go back and have it again. Another friend got the figs and polenta, which I tasted, and it was yummy too. Sweet and creamy, balanced with a saltiness that tied it together. For dessert the table split a creme brulee and a strawberry-rhubarb crumble. Both were excellent. The server brought our other friend the wrong port, but quickly replaced it and let us keep both glasses. She also brought us the wrong bill and even though it was less money, honesty dictated that we point it out. All was corrected with many apologies and despite all that, I can't wait to go back and get that steak again! Yum!

This has become a great riverside location. When the weather is nice(r), sitting outside, by the Petaluma river, enjoying an ale brewed on site and some really nice dishes put together by an efficient kitchen, it does not get any better. And there is plenty of parking. Still my favorite place to stop at every time I am in Petaluma and that, since 1991. Highly recommended.

Cons: I cannot think of any

We've been to Dempsey's several times and always enjoyed very good food. The main menu has some very tasty standards (great pork chops) but their specials always stand out. They use many local ingredients and turn out creative spins on old favorites. It has some nice riverfront seating and always friendly service. Service is attentive but more relaxed than the hustle of the Bay Area. Go to enjoy the great food and nice comfortable atmosphere.

Pros: great food, friendly service, nice atmosphere.

Cons: service is relaxed so don't go expecting fast food.

I just Do Not Get the Beer here. However, fries and a burger on the River are a good lunch combination. Salads can be great or totally underdressed but you can always ask for more dressing

Just moved to town and were looking for a "regular" place to go. I like micro-brew beer so it seamed like a good place. We figured that if its a restaurant & brewery there would be a full bar but its only beer & wine. A ding for my wife who likes cocktails. The food is mostly made from local in season ingredients (from there own farm if possible) it was a limited menu with lots of things that seemed overly fancy. The beer was good but there was nothing we were super excited about for dinner. The deserts were good and well portioned for the flat price of $5.50. It seamed like a nice place to maybe go back and try for a lunch on the river patio.

I have passed Dempsey's so many times and wanted to try it. Others have suggested it was a great place. Finally my daughter and I were out for a local event downtown and decided to go there for lunch. We had my grandchildren (age 10, 6, 5) with us.
We ordered the Greens Salad w/Goat Cheese, A child burger w/mashed instead of fries and an order of Fries for the young ones who had already eaten. Iced Tea for us and sodas for the girls. We had to ask for sweetener for the tea. Refills were never offered. The burger came with fries instead of the requested mashed potatoes. And believe it or not, there was no Ranch Dressing for the children (Ranch is the "new ketchup" for kids). The salads came with Blue Cheese rather than the requested Goat cheese. It all took way too long. Tasty but timely.
