I have been coming here for years and they are very friendly and helpful. I have read the other reviews and it surprises me because this has NEVER been my experience. I know a ton of people that board here and buy from here and wouldn't go anywhere else. I wouldn't go anywhere else either. Highly recommend for boarding or just purchasing a bird or supplies. A++++++++++

Several years ago I considered boarding my Senegal and Amazon with Our Feathered Friends. I made a point of inspecting the boarding area first. I was not impressed with the conditions I found. It was very dirty. I understand that the cages belong to the bird owners, so all cages may not be in the best condition. But I also noted that the bird cages were not being maintained. There were bird droppings piling up, clearly indicating that the cages were not cleaned daily. Also, it concerned me that there were extended periods of time on the weekends where the birds were not supervised by anyone on site. In the end, I decided to board my birds at the Purring Parrot. This is a wonderful facility and the care is topnotch. But to be fair, I still shop here because the merchandise selection is very good.

Prepared to spend about 2000 dollars on a big cage. Employees were "pre-occupied" with themselves. Why bother with a customer. No other customers in the store, they must have been bored with the parrots and obviously not concerned with customer service. Twice!

Employees, are sarcastic, disrespectful, and dishonest. Sick birds are rarely taken to the vet which is illegal, and disgusting nonetheless, and too many birds are crammed into small cages. I was told this was San Diego's Best, if it is, I believe I have lost faith in the community, as well as the local humane society and animal rights organizations.

I don't think it is fair or just, for a business to spread rumors about other business's owned by former employees for their own advancement.

This store is just what a bird owner needs. We have boarded our birds there many, many times. Without fail, they have been well cared for and seem to want to stay there and not come home. We have two Blue & Golds, not your average small parrot. We really trust those who work there. They love birds, as you can tell if you spend even 5 minutes there and notice how they treat the birds. They even seem to love our birds. We have their wings and nails clipped when they need it and have for several years now. No problems, unless it is our female bird screams the whole time they are working on her and the problem might be the clerk's hearing.
We purchase cages, nuts and food and toys there. They have a huge selection. What a great store!!!! Also, when they board your bird, it is upstairs in a locked room where customers, etc. cannot go. That makes us feel more secure in leaving them there.

My large macaw had dried blood on his wing when I picked it up. Never seen that before or since and I have boarded him in much smaller cages since then. The bird is aggressive when frightened, tho, but I did notice a severe attitude problem when I picked him up.
I spoke to them about the blood but they denied any knowledge of it and just brushed me off. Didn't even want to look at the bird.

I will not use them again altho I will buy stuff there from once in a while.

I have shopped exclusively at Our Feathered Friends for my parrots needs for over twenty-five years, however, after the last two boarding experiences I will never return. Here's why. Once while I was away I boarded my parrot for two weeks. My bird escaped through a door that was not closed properly and climbed on top of another cage where the parrot in that cage bit off the end of his toe. When I returned I was accused of not telling them that my bird was an "escape artist." Since he isn't, I did not tell them that, but did accept the responsibility of failing to inform them that the door in question was a little hard to close and one must take care to close it properly. Of course any parrot will leave his cage if the door is left open. My bad. The next time I boarded him for approximately two weeks. Imagine my concern when I entered the boarding area and saw dried blood (and lots of it) on the inside the cage and arterial blood splatter on the wall next to the cage. I of course had no idea when this happened nor did they. They never removed the bird from his cage to check for injury and until I arrived, pointing out the blood, no one apparently had noticed. I expected at least some concern for the bird. None was forthcoming. In fact, I requested a meeting with the manager/owner and she practically accused me of bringing the cage in with the blood already present. Aside from the fact that his cage is always clean and I would never have done that, this would not explain the presence of blood splatter on the wall outside his cage. Needless to say I will never board my parrot with Our Feathered Friends again nor would I recommend that anyone else use their services. I understand that the bird may have injured himself by damaging a blood feather. For that of course, they are not responsible. But I would expect that someone would have at least noticed the blood and would have conducted an inspection of the bird to determine what might be the matter. This was never done. I get no pleasure from telling about this experience but feel that potential boarders should be very wary of entrusting their precious birds with people who failed to provide a minimum of care.

We've visited a few of the bird stores in San Diego, and I am impressed by the clean and positive environment at Our Feathered Friends. The staff is very helpful with questions on recommended food, cages, toys etc. I pick up tips on how to handle birds just by observing the staff. They have a large selection of bird cages and food supplies. We have not yet used their bird grooming or boarding services so I can't comment there, but will soon.

PROS: Clean, friendly, great selection
CONS:
