The kuro ramen + negitoro is awesome. If you come, expect a wait unless coming at an off hour. This place fills up fast. Cash only too.

not as good as ryowa, but they have a bukkake ramen here which is pretty good. the black broth is pretty good as well since i've never had it anywhere else. come here if ryowa is crowded.

Never have I experienced such bad service!

We were a small group when we went for lunch. The food came in fast which is what they were known for and when we were done, one of us asked if we can be billed separately. Our server all of a sudden blurted out with attitude, "Oh I can't!", then went into defensive mode, "You should have told me in the beginning, I already put it in one bill!" and walked away with a frown. Stunned, we decided that we didn't deserve that, we paid our bill and felt that they don't deserve a tip either. As we walked out of the restaurant, one of the waitresses chased us with the tip tray saying that we forgot our change (which were coins). Surprised and half-disappointed, we said we don't need it. Then she blurted, "Well I don't need it either.", tilted the tip tray and dumped the coins on the ground in front of other waiting customers.

Both incidents were very unnecessary! A simple, "Sorry, I can't split the bill anymore because I've already ringed up the register", would've made it better and to add insult to injury, the waitress had to hunt us down and display such disrespect.

We felt really disappointed and went back in to discuss their actions against us. As we were pointing out what was the reason why we didn't leave a tip, our server started yelling and insulted us that we can't even afford to give a tip. We're not even the type of customers that believe.. "Oh, I'm the customer.... and I should be right." We just didnt feel that they deserved a tip for bad service and then our server goes, "Well then don't come back here anymore!".

At that point, I already had it and threw dollar bills in his face and said, "If you want your tip so bad, then here shove it! I've been coming back to this place and this is what I get and you're telling me not to come back here? Definitely not!", and we left.

It's too bad that we weren't able to get the names of our server and that waitress. Everything happened so fast. As much as I wanted to report this to the Better Business Bureau, I found out they're not even registered with them. I hope I could get my point accross to Maruichi's management because as paying customers, we don't deserve that kind of treatment.

Maruichi's ramen is very good: the ingredients are tasty, the dark broth (on the Kuro ramen) is flavorful -- albiet a little fatty -- and, most importantly, their noodles are just the right chewiness. They make their own noodles fresh daily in the front of the shop, and you can often see someone working at it behind glass windows. A basic bowl of ramen is $6.25, and extras cost a little more. However, the combo meals are great deals: if you add $3, you can get pot stickers and California rolls, or a small donburi with white tuna, chopped up fatty tuna with green onion, or barbeque pork. The decor is functional, although I'm often drawn to the TVs in the corner playing strange Japanese television shows. Service is usually brisk and friendly, although they can get bogged down if there are a lot of people. This place does get pretty crowded around lunch time, so be wary of that.
