I had Terry cut my hair and was not impressed. I don't understand why people are raving about this place. Maybe it's because I live in Palo Alto and we have better salons than in San Mateo. Plus, it was easy to get an appt. with him. The best stylists have month-long waits.
I had a haircut from Terry (the founder? of Barberia) and at the time I wasn't very excited by it -- it appeared to do just the opposite of what I liked my hair to do. However, I have long hair and haven't had another haircut since -- a few months later -- and now my hair looks great. So I would recommend this business. It's better if you have a haircut that looks okay right away but better as it grows in than one that looks great for one day and then horrible later on.
I got my hair permed at this place and they charged me $85. All I got was the perm (for half a head). They did cut my hair a little bit because it was a little long, but it wasn't a major job. I had to make an appointment ahead of time, which wasn't a problem since it was the 1st time I ever had a perm.
When I left my hair was curvy, wavy, and looked very nice. I was happy. They had actually permed about 3/4 of my head as the only straight hairs left were the ones in the very back which were too short to perm anyhows. I guess it would look funny if you literally permed only half the head as half of it would be straight and the other half would be wavy.
Approximately 3 weeks afterwards my hair had straightened out. I guess with some people the perm goes away quicker.
Because I know my hair straightens out so quickly I won't be getting a perm again from them but for the 2 weeks that my hair was wavy I was a happy camper.
