Surfa's is great, a cook's dream. They have all the professional kitchen utilities/equipment/appliances available to everyone at good prices.

They have a great selection of hard to find spices and sauces as well as frozen ingredients.

Great place to shop, easy to spend a bunch of money.

Surfas carries just about everything you could ever want for a kitchen, home or commerical. I've bought numerous gifts for friends who love to cook, and I find their prices pretty reasonable. My two favorite items they carry are blanched almond flour and unsweetened coconut--both are nearly impossible to find in retail stores, and I use them for a number of recipes.

You won't find the overly pretty devices and super shiny pots and pans like at Williams-Sonoma, but you will find solid values on many of the things you need for your kitchen

Whether a dutch over, potato peeler, ramkins, or a chef's knife, they've got it. They've got it top quality. And they've got it cheaper.

They also have quite an increasing selection of speciality foods, including vinegars, chocolates, sauce bases and even some cheese (though I tend to buy at the BH Cheeseshop).

Note: Closed Sundays.

Huge selection of specialty kitchen equipment at great prices. Anything you can possibly need is at this store and at fairly cheap regular prices. Although I can't comment on the customer service, I'd still highly recommend this store simply because of the selection and prices.

This to me is the epicenter of food shopping in Los Angeles. A massive, fantastic gourmet supermarket/restaurant supply that has the rarest and finest quality of everything they carry, and at very fair prices. Valrhona chocolate in huge chunks for baking, boutique produced ice creams, praline powder, a million kinds of mustard, Silpats and molds of every description, mandolines, copper cookware, gorgeous cheeses, jams, confits ... it's just boggling.
