Great food, great prices, and great drinks! I love it here! The people are all very friendly and the service is wonderful and quick. They have a room for large parties and do a nice job accommodating large groups.

Ranchero is not the best Mexican food you've ever had, but it is decent, with a few super-star items.

**I happen to personally adore the restaurant, because like many people, i've been going there FOREVER and it just feels like home cooking to me. But I promise my review will be apart from my personal bias, because I frequent many Mexican restaurants, and I know there is better food that generally satisfies a larger majority.

The salsa is good & can be spicy depending on the day.
The chips are also good, better when hot and salted.
The regular dishes are aiiight (enchiladas, tacos, etc)
The carne asada burrito is really good.
The guacamole & pico de gallo is very tasty.
The pozole is very good.

Try the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo & the Halibut al Mojo.
You WILL NOT be sorry - best Mexican garlic dishes in the area.

Have a cadillac with it, but be sure to have a designated driver!

After our orders came, the waitress brought some hot sauce and placed it on the table saying "we want you to try this". When the check came there was charge for the hot sauce. We mentioned this to the manager who did not care and said because we ate it we had to pay.

A letter to the owner did not resolve the situtation either. I would avoid Ranchero.

I'd like to give this two different ratings: one for chips and drinks after work (4-5 stars) and the other for food (3-4 stars).

Margaritas are great...super watering hole for after work or Friday afternoon if you're in the area.

The food is good, but not great, and has varied a bit over the years. I used to get great tamales at Ranchero for lunch (I worked across the street), but more recently they've been bit greasy and not as tastey.

Their rank-n-file dishes are just fine: cheese enchiladas, rellenos, etc. Chile verde good, but not the best in the area. (Try El Super Burrito for a better value.)

Atmosphere is so-so, keeping in mind they are in the middle of the East Pasadena warehouse district, but the staff is friendly and the place has a ma-n-pa atmosphere...unlike the Acapulco and El Torito chains down the street...I'd go here in a drop of a hat over those.

Keep in mind, this place has been there forever, and that's not by accident.

PROS: Go for the 'ritas and XX, stick to the basic dishes off the menu
CONS: Better Mexican with 15m, but ain't that true about most of LA?

I grew up in this place and this place has two personalities, weekday and weekend. Go during a weeknight and its kind of quiet. Go on a weekend and WOW what a difference, it can be quite rowdy, but everyones having fun. If ya got a large party head to the back room that only locals know about, and have your own party!!! They dont serve the triple marg's anymore, better known as the "bird baths", but the marg's still kick. Food is a little Cali style but very good and consistant. Waiters have been there for years, ask for Ricky- He's the best. Still family owned and operated and going strong. Cant go wrong.
