The entertainment was good, the staff was courteous but bottom line, I would have rather sat on my couch and watched the ball drop. This place was a big waste of money and there was hardly anyone there (obviously they were smarter than me and went somewhere more fun where they actually let their guests sit down). Don't waste your money

The Caliph is a retreat into another time and place: a dark, cushiony Moroccan interior with many conversational niches (around the piano bar, at tables along the walls, center island or on stools at the U-shaped bar). Also the cozy garden patio with tables and umbrellas is another area to enjoy a drink, converse or smoke.
The nightly entertainment is exceptionally fine-- talented performers with music to suit a variety of tastes from mellow piano and vocals earlier in the evening to the rockin' tunes later on. Weekly kareoke too for the patron-performer. With such a varied venue, everyone is sure to find something to his liking.
Especially popular is the early Saturday evening 50-cent carved roast beef sandwiches.
The staff is friendly and efficient and the patrons are welcoming and congenial. The Caliph isn't a watering hole; it's an oasis amid the hustle & bustle of Fifth Avenue, Hillcrest!
