La Cabana Restaurant

Message from La Cabana Restaurant

Casual Venice crowd flocks well into the wee hours for standard Mexican fare and killer margaritas.

Since 1963, La Cabana in Venice has been serving great Mexican food. A little senorita pats out thick tortillas by hand on a brick-layered fireplace and a festive strolling guitar trio takes you back to pueblos of Mexico. There's a colorful outdoor patio where you can wash down chips and salsa picosa with over 18 varieties of margaritas. La Cabana serves monster burritos and sopes made fresh from the tortilla comal. The Chile Rellenos are to die for and they have an excellent Carne Adobada (pork steak marinated in a smokey chile ancho and pasilla sauce).

Editorial Description by Citysearch
In Short
Like a cozy Mexican cottage, the restaurant has dim lighting, arched entryways and terra-cotta overhangs. A tequila-drinking crowd is drawn to the partially covered, festively adorned patio. Tuxedo-clad servers deliver platters of Tex-Mex selections. Meat-filled empanadas with chipotle sauce is a popular starter. Entrees include steak picado, which is packed with chunks of beef in a mix of potatoes and vegetables. Handmade flour tortillas accompany most dishes, served hot off a large brick griddle.

The margaritas are definitely the best feature at La Cabana.
Their chips are great too. They make their tortillas on the premises and the place has a nice atmosphere.

Love the carnitas and also the outdoor patio.

PROS: Margaritas!
CONS: Not closer to my house!

This place prepares great Mexican favorites - and fabulous margaritas - in a kitschy but clean environment. Ask for a table on the covered patio out back - its great during the summer.

Great margaritas, I like the atmosphere on the patio. Not the best mexican food but the atmoshpere and drinks make up for it. I reccomend the "original margarita"

Very Mediocre food 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

For a business that has been around for so long, I don't understand why.

Ordered what should be one of the tastiest diners, the carnitas plate. It was a complete mis-mash of pork pieces. A few soft pieces mixed in with fatty ones, the chewey pieces tasted like something gridded and scrapped of the grill. (Uck!)

Have never had such terrible mixture of meat. And with extra thick, (1/4'') pancake corn tortilla's, found they were way too filling!

What kind of Gringo do they think I am?
This one is defiantly off my list!

Pros: nice atmosphere
Cons: thick tortillas'?

Very Traditional Mexican Restaurant in a cozy setting. 4 Star Rating - Very good

By sharonm777

I was taken here on a date and was pleasantly surprised. The place does not look so pretty from the outside, but once you walk in you get warmly greeted by the ladies at the door. We went on a Tuesday night and it seemed pretty crowded like it was the weekend. We got seated right away in a very big roomy booth. The place has a very cozy ambience and has a lot of Mexican charm. The servers are very professional and attentive. I was said to hear that they only served Fajitas during the weekend. I rarely get to go to a Mexican restaurant, and so having Fajitas would have been such a big treat for me. That is something they should think about serving ALL the time. My margarita was okay, nothing too great. Honestly got the worst headache the next morning but that may have to do with the fact that I do not drink often. However, I have tasted way better margaritas elsewhere. They do have a really nice menu with very authentic Mexican dishes like enchiladas, ceviche, albondigas, burritos, and quesadillas. I went with the El Verde burrito with chicken. When I got my dish it was huge and it came with a lot of rice which I love. It was strange how it came with fresh tomatoes inside the burrito, but hence you can tell it was freshly made. I ate only half of my burrito and took the rest home. Filled me up quick. Oh and you can see the lovely Senora making fresh tortillas within view from where we were sitting. That was very cool. Our food was served right away. I would definitely come here again, but it would be on a weekend so I can try out their Fajitas!!!!

Pros: Ambience, Large portions, Service
Cons: Parking, Exterior of Restaurant, No Fajitas on Menu!!!
