Mission Thrift

I am living in Norway and most of my clothes, 80 % of my wardrobe consists of stuff bought at Mission Thrift. I am so happy to find my favorite bib overalls, always a lot of them and a lot of thin, faded and almost torn t shirts, clothes I really feel comfortable. So I happily take the 11 hours flight to SF to go to Mission Thrift to get my clothes.

They sell some new items like purses and accessories as well as the usual thrift store items. I've looked through their stuff a few times and have never had any luck. It seems like they rarely have new items and usually out of style or poor quality. This is not one of the better thrift stores in town.

I was not struck by the prices, variety, or clientele of this thrift store in comparison with the many other thrift stores in the area. It was also more cramped.

This store is part of what I call the "retro-city empire," part a company that owns several vintage stores in the bay area including Held Over on Haight and Sharks in Berkeley. Clearly this store on Mission street is not getting the best they have to offer. Selection does not turn over often and is picked over. The atmosphere is nice and the store is scrupulously organized with a fine selection of new merchandise.

PROS: New Merchandise. Organized.
CONS: Picked over.
