.

My wife and I spent the weekend in Dunsmuir for our anniversary and planned our "nice" dinner at Cafe Maddalena. We stopped in the night before to check it out and confirm our reservations. The place looked nice and we were excited to eat there. While we were there we moved our reservations from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. We were told that it was no problem (the reservations were for a Sunday night) and I could clearly see the the restaurant had no reservations for any tables at 8:00 PM.

We arrived for our table on Sunday. The restaurant was about 1/2 full and they stuck us off to the side behind a larger group and next to the door. We asked about one of the open tables next to the window and the told us they were reserved. Again, I could see the reservation book was empty but the table turned out to be a very small inconvenience. Next we tried to order a bottle of wine. That selection was out. Okay, that happens. Next we tried to order dinner and my wife asked for the scallop dish. Suprisingly enough, that was out too. We had looked at the menu the night before and that was what my wife was looking forward to. Again, we tried to roll with it and instead she ordered the sea bass. That dish was far too oily with the naturally oily fish came with vegetables soaked in olive oil. My dish, the "Spaghetti with puntanesca sauce" was fine but there was certainly nothing special about it.

In the mean time, a group of 10 came in and sure enough, four or five scallop dishes came out for their tables. We were angry to say the least. We confronted our server and she said that the chef/owner told her to lie about the scallops being out.

The moral of the story is, "don't waste your time at this restaurant." The food is mediocre and the chef/owner doesn't know how to run his restaurant.

The server we had was the only exceptional part of the experience.
