Went here because of all the hype (Zagat rated!). Found the sushi to be only mediocre, but way overpriced. The wait was not worth it. I'll stick to my old favorite sushi place.

We went on a date here and I loved the whole ambiance.
I had never been in a Japanese restaurant like this and enjoyed myself greatly.
The sushi is amazing, the food is all good.
Nice wait staff.

Highly ranked by Zagat, Fuki sushi offers excellent cuts of the raw stuff. I typically go at lunch where they offer a nice lunch menu, around $10 for two selections plus salad, rice, miso. Usually enough to get quite full. Their sashimi is very fresh and the presentation is nice. Decor is great, very traditional sushi house.

My Japanese friend and I had lunch here the other day. He was raving about how good and authentic the food is. Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I am going to recommend them for a catering job @ my office.

It was a nice place to eat. Good sushi especially. The chicken teriyaki had a nice flavor. I would recommend the place to others.

Though the portions are small and the food can be perceived to be pricey, the overall experience is classy and yummy - one of the best sushi places you'll find in Palo Alto.

For twenty five years I've enjoyed the hospitality of the Io family at their restaurant called Fuki-Sushi. During my early career in Silicon Valley their much smaller (at the time) Fuki-Sushi was a home away from home, where quality food and ingredients was always the standard. Whether it was simple oyako donburi or a tsukiyaki, the experience was more of a home-cooked meal than that of a restaurant.

Pros: Outstanding sushi, great hospitality

Cons: In life, you pay for quality

I heard so much good things about Fuki Sushi and read good reviews. (Of course, I read bad reviews too, but I did not pay much attention) So, when my husband and I went there for the first time, we had very high anticipation to be served with high quality sushi.

You'll be hard pressed to find another place as good as this. Food is fresh, and they place a lot of emphasis on the quality of the food and preparation. Many Japanese expats (from Japan) eat here - so I think that's a good indicator of the quality. They even offer sushi cooking classes!

My wife and I had been patrons of Fuki Sushi for ten years. We will never go back based on our last experience.

Maybe the best food I ever had in my life... I have eaten sushi for my entire life; in the bay area, New York and Los Angeles. This place is phenomenal. The nigiri portions are great and the fish are incredibly fresh and tasty. Their spicy rolls (an option on almost every roll they offer) is excellent. Spicy spider is painfully good. On the expensive side, but well worth it. I recommend avoiding the California rolls though, the only thing on the menu not quite 5 stars.

Pros: Food, Ambience, Selection, Service and Specilaty rolls

Cons: None (other than the califronia rolls)

.

The food is fresh, delicate, and subtle. Sushi rolls are actually a reasonable size, meaning you can fit one in your mouth versus having to take a bite out of one and have it all fall apart. The portions are not so generous given the price and waits can be long even with a reservation.

Either for lunch or dinner -- fish is always fresh, rice is perfect, service is prompt, staff is very pleasant. The only complaint I have is the bill -- over $100 for 2 people, which means portions are smaller than most other places, but well worth the exatra dow. Rolls are exceptional. Another thing to be aware of is it seems like it's popular for family dinners -- on a Sunday night there might be quite a few people with kids, and with arrogant peninsula crowd consideration for comfort of others is the last thing on minds of geniuses showing up there with babies.

Cons: Expensive, small portions

I was very disappointed by this place. I had heard it's expensive but that they have good sushi. Wrong. It is way overpriced for what you get, and the sushi is mediocre. For the price I would expect way better food than that. The service is o.k., the table next to us was getting really slow service so I think it depends on the waitress you get. Ambience is o.k., and clean. Definitely not authentic if you are looking for an authentic experience.

Ok their website is BEAUTIFUL! but dont be fooled. we waited for over an hour for our food bc i thought it was going to be worth it. the sushi was really really underrated. my roll was DRENCHED in teriyaki sauce which was weird because i've never seen that on a california roll. their ice cream was good. with the red beans on top of it.. it was a nice place on the inside.. it's just not as good as everyone says it is. i was very disappointed because i love sushi of all types and have had it all good and bad.

Previously, I enjoyed fresh, delicious sushi at Fuki Sushi. I went this Sunday, 6/18, and the California Rolls used fake crab legs instead of the fresh crab meat they used to be famous for. The Sake Nigiri was fatty and didn't taste fresh. What a disappointment! It had only been a couple months since I last went. Obiviously, something happened. The rating on citysearch.com needs to change for Fuki Sushi, it was not a 9.2. Give that rating to Naomi Sushi, they have been consistently good.

We ordered take out our first time trying the food and it was OK. The next time, we tried dining in (this is supposed to be the best place around) and the food was better, the ambiance was enjoyable and the staff were friendly. We got to try more dishes - and liked the fried tofu appetizer, loved the Dragon and Almond Shrimp Rolls, and for dessert the coffee mochi we tried to split was so good, we had to order another! We find the prices reasonable, except for any of the noodles, they aren't to our liking.

I really love this restaurant, as I have been eating there for more than twenty years; with family, friends, alone.... The service is excellent, especially when I am alone, although sometimes when I am with family it can be a little sluggish...hmmmm (grin). Heeheehee. Anyway, back to the review.....Food is excellent, especially the Spicy Agedashi Tofu, the Soba soups, the House salad, and the tempuras. I love the added daily special menu. I have recently become highly fond of sushi, and the sushi here is delicious. The hosts (owners)--I have known them a loooooooooong time--are soooo wonderful.

for sashimi, but not for rolls. My salmon teriyaki was overcooked and didn't flake nicely as it should. I was disappointed esp. since it was way overpriced.

It's too bad you can't return the food you ordered. Since my favorite place closed in palo alto (hygashi west) I tried this place. From the get go things went sour; service was bad took forever to get our drinks, portions small, yellow tail was chewy. the owners have personalities like stop signs. I changed my table 3 times. All this for $120.00 out the door.

Fukisushi is way overpriced. A Dragon Roll is $12, Spider Roll $9.50, and Rainbow Roll $9.35. My boyfriend and I had sushi and sake and the bill was $120 before tip! The seats are incredibly cramped and the mood is totally unromantic because you can hear the conversation next to you. There are so many better Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area that are half the price.

I've been to many sushi restaurants in the bay area and SF and rank Fuki Sushi at the top. Their fresh fish and great service will make your evening or lunch a true treat. Prices are a bit high but as with all quality food your body with thank you. Well worth a try.

nice ambience. quiet, and has a calming sort of feeling w/ it's decor.

ordered the tokucho sushi set. and around here. the set is typical of most places. fish was dry and just not as fresh as it can be. ordered the toro a la carte, and it was FABULOUS! however, the toro and uni prices are seasonal, so you should probably ask for the price first before ordering as it was expensive.

friends ordered the sake rice dinner and the teriyaki/sashimi combo dinners. the sashimi seemed to be fresh for their sets. not too sure about the teriyaki.

for appetizers, ordered the tofu made from edamame in a multi-mushroom based sauce and the tori karaage. the tofu was good, the karaage was typical.

overall, good place to take a date, but you can get the same freshness elsewhere and for less.

I have been to many sushi places but this place by far is the best. The Sake Sashimi is the fresh and fat. The spicy rolls are excellent, I recomment trying the scallops. It is a bit expensive but is worth every penny, not only do you have great food but a wonderful authentic atmosphere.

Very good fish. Generous slices on nigiri. Nice atomosphere. Atmospheric prices. Best Tempura I've had. Nice service. And they had toro in house last time I went (fatty tuna; delicious if you like fatty fish). Nice treat. Recommended for a nice date. Ask for the private room.

One of the hardest parts about dining at Fuki Sushi is deciding where to sit. It's a blast to hang out at the sushi bar and watch the chefs prepare their sometimes exotic, always gorgeous, creations. It's equally pleasurable to take off…
