Saving my Moondoggie's Basset Hound.

by Sienna J.

I bought a Basset Hound from Moon Doggies @ The Block at Orange in 4/07. First off, I have to say that she is still with me, and she is the sweetest, smartest dog imaginable. But it took a lot of effort to get her to this point.

I chose her because she was incredibly calm and sweet. And because I was led to believe that Moon Doggies got their dogs from reputable breeders, not puppy mills. After 3 years with my dog, I'm not so sure of that point.

Once I brought her home, I realized her calm affect was actually because she was incredibly sick. Her first night home, she fell asleep in her food bowl while trying to eat. I have photos that document this if anyone is interested. She was coughing up green matter all night long.

I took her to the vet the next morning. Turns out she had such a severe respiratory infection that my vet admitted her immediately for around-the-clock antibiotic respiratory breathing treatments. She was at the vet receiving these treatments for 8 days. She made it though, she's a fighter.

I can say, to Moon Doggies' benefit, they covered every bit of her vet care, per their warranty. When all was said and done, her vet care cost over $3k and I got her for half of that. Moon Doggies did not profit.

I have no satisfaction in this- I wish my dog were cared for properly as a young puppy. My main bone to pick is that my dog was in dire need of vet care, and probably on the verge of death. The store staff had no idea she was so sick, and happily ignored her in her store cage. She probably would have been ignored in the store until she passed away, had I not taken her. She really was within days of dying.

I understand this could be an honest mistake because she just seemed sleepy, but I would hope that the store staff would have noticed her decline in health. Apparently they did not.

Moondoggies - HORRIBLE

by jennifer w.

I Bought My Mini Doxie from them and noticed he was sick when I got him with a respiratory infection - green in the eyes/nose. I live in aliso viejo and got him from the block and when I bought him - 1300.00 I told them I need to see my vet closer to home since yours is booked for he day, will this be ok - they advised me they would cover it if there was something wrong.

I took him in the next day - it cost me 1400.00 in vet bills due to the severe case of pneumonia he had and over a week to get him back - during that time I was in touch with the store multiple times with them saying they would cover the expenses.

When all was done and he was finally healthy I took the bills in and they refused any payment - not even a thin dime, they dragged this out for 2 months till finally I had enough and used the lemon law to my advantage. I called the bank and yanked back my payment stating that the item purchased was faulty and the seller refused to pay for damages. It worked.

I would NEVER go near / purchase from Moondoggies EVER again.

Stay away from that place!

Nice place, Knowledgable

by jennilee b.

I visited Moon doggies in huntington beach and it was very nice. The dogs did seem a little anxious and ran around like crazy when we took them to the play room. But the employees were very informative and friendly.

I like Moondoggies

by Kristine L.

I have purchased two puppies from the moondoggies in Orange, a yorkie and a maltese. I walked by the other day and saw that they were closed. I'm not sure if they moved or went out of business but I loved that place. I never had any problems with my two babies and they always had the cutest stuff in their store. The staff was always really helpful and pretty knowledgable. Are there anymore moondoggies anywhere?

moondoggies in orange

by Anonymous

I have purchased 3 of my dogs from the moondoggies at the block in orange. I have only had great experiences with my puppies and with the store itself. The staff is always so helpful and knowlegable. I feel bad for the people who say that there puppy had a genetic disease but honestly that is not Moondoggies fault. Plus, if you read your contract correctly, Moondoggies will cover the vet charges and/or surgeries to cover the cost to help that puppy get better within a year of purchase. Don't people understand that genetic problems are not controllable?! Humans have genetic problems too but I don't see anyone giving their kids back or throwing a fit. Its a living thing, you are responsible for the care of your puppy no matter what. Does the fact that your puppy has a genetic illness make him/her less valuable to you?! Some genetic problems, such as a heart murrmer can go away on its own as they grow older. I hate people that are uneducated about pet stores but always have something negative to say about them. If you think that owning a dog means that it will never get sick or hurt then you should never own an animal. I love my puppies and I love Moondoggies.

If you like dogs and stuff!

by An H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,253

Moon doggies have hilarious parodies of tv shows and movies on their t-shirts with dogs on them. I like this place because its not very common, but it has a very relaxing environment.

OUR DOG WAS FINE, AFTER......

by Anonymous

We bought a pappi-poo from moondoggies at the Block of Orange. We received the free vet visit, it has a chip and we got a free bag of dog food. After the first 3 months our dog was fine and I would like to say it is the best dog I have ever had. We did have to spend $100 because it had worms after the first visit to the vet and then $475 from the vet that they send you to have his ears cleaned. Other than that, he is the most adorable dog and so cute. I don't know if he came from a puppy mill or not. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. I now take him to my own vet, and not theirs as I feel maybe there is a conspiracy because when I saw other people there, they had just bought their dog from Moondoggies also.

Moon Doggies is HORRIBLE DO NOT SHOP THERE

by Anonymous

We purchased a puppy from Moon Doggies and have had nothing but problems, our puppy is constantly sick and we are taking multiple trips to the vet weekly. The owner Judy is extremely rude and has gone back on her word several times and will not compensate us as per the contract. She has lied to us and then dodges our calls. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A PET STORE WE HAVE EVER HAD and I have three dogs, two who are otherwise very healthy and happy.

horrible!!!!!!!

by rox c.

I just went into moondoggies tonight while shopping at the block and I cannot believe what I saw.
First there was a lab that was way too big for his cage, then I saw another puppy keep hitting his
head against the glass. There was also another dog and he was eating his own poop! I can't
believe that! He was actually eating it; not sniffing or licking it, he was actually chewing it. I felt
so horrible and just could not fathom any reason why this should be happening. I looked at the two
associates and it seemed they could really care less about what was going on with the dogs. I am
never going to that store again and I'm going to let everyone know about this.

Horrible!

by Anonymous

I was in there last night looking at dogs when I came across a black Lab that had obviously been in the pet store for well over a month. They had discounted his price to $500.00. This dog was unable to play because the worker stated he was suffering from depression. If Moondoggies hadn't priced him so high in the first place this little guy could have had a chance. If anyone is interested in a lab go get him. . he is too cute!

Very UPSET

by NIcolee L.

My family went to Moondoggies last night and we were left feeling like this was the worst pet store we had ever seen. My children were horrified to see a black lab way to big for his cage leaning over trying to move. It was on sale obviously been in there way too long. If you are going to carry dogs like this, you need to make adequate room for these animals. People were walking by tapping on the cages and not one of the employees were doing anything about it. Please if any one of importance from Moondoggies views this report you need to take charge and do something about your shop...Please.

anything but animal cruelty

by brianna l.

I work for a pet store chain very similar to this one and let me tell you, we do anything but animal cruelty. I hate customers like you that come in all the time thinking we get our puppy from puppy mills and they are not taken care of. Here is some 411 for you.

1. We do not get puppies from puppy mills. They come from private breeders and we are more than happy to share the breeder info and bloodline with you.

2. We try not to carry larger breeds for the fact that they get to big for the kennels. Many times they will be special ordered and are never picked up. In this case our dogs are constantly taken out throughout the day to make sure they get their adequate love and exercise. This goes for all the puppies.

3. Our puppies are so expensive because:
a] We purchase the puppies from breeders usually around $800
b] then we microchip them
c] and register them
d] and de-worm them
e] and give them any shots they need
f] and guarantee 1 year of good health
g] and feed them
h] and give you a free vet visit
i] and give you a free training session
j] and give you a free bag of food
k] and give you free vitamins
l] and on top of that, as a business we need to make profit.

so realisticly $1,000 is not expensive for a four month old puppy [considering we get all puppies at 2 months]. We don't make any profit off a $1,000 dog. And if you don't have $1,000 to buy a dog, then you shouldn't own one. What if the dog gets run over? If you don't have $1,000 to buy it, then how are you going to pay the thousands of dollars in medical bills??

So instead of running around being stupid and making us look like bad people, do your research first. OK? Thanks.

Great store

by Eric V.

Actually, the Lab was 3 months old and had only been in the store for the period of one week. We appreciate your concern for the animals, however in this case it is misplaced. All of the puppies are treated extremely well and great care is taken to make sure they all get enough exercise. The kennels are only temporary housing until we can find the the puppies great homes. The store works closely with the the local animal control toi ensure that all codes are being met at all times.

Animal cruelty

by Anonymous

When visiting Moondoggies at the Block of Orange recently I saw a lot of cute puppies. Most of them fit the cages they were in. There were two puppies (a lab and a wheaten) that were much too large to be in the cages. The lab was born in April of 07. A four month old lab is way too big to be kept in that size cage. When I inquired how long they keep the dogs I was told "Until they are sold." I then asked how much she was selling for and was told $980.00! This is an outrageous price for an older dog and it is probably from a puppy mill which could signal hip problems or other medical problems. This store has been reported to the Orange county and L.A. ASPCA authorities. I feel sad for people that need to make money without caring.

Puppies and kitties and cuties oh my!

by Yoon K. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,477

Moondoggies is a great pet store located in the Block at Orange. Whenever you are in need of a break from the chaos and craziness of the Block (especially on weekend nights when it is most crowded), go in to Moondoggies to take a quick break. You will love taking time to look at the cute litle puppies and kitties. I appreciate the fact that the employees always ask you if you need any help because most pet stores assume that you are just looking and don't pay any attention to you.
