SF public library is the best place for studying. The place is so vast and they got extensive array of books. They also have internet access - lower level and most floors. The lower level - only for 15 minutes but the other levels - you have to get yourself an appointment. As good as it sounds, the library is not located in a good area - no parking and they are many bums infront of the library. The best way to get there is through public transportation.

If you cannot find a specific book or atricle, then look no further. You will find everything you need at this library. It is huge and offers so many books and srticles that you are bound to find everything that you are looking for. They also hav a wonderful computer area. many computers and very well taken care of. i like the children's room the best. They offer books and games to keep any child busy. Its an excellent place. The only thing is that parking is very difficult. But it is close to public tansportation.

This library has a huge selection of books and it's one of the largest libraries I've ever been to (making up several stories), that it has it's own directory. Computer lab areas for reference purposes are readily available and you might need it to navigate yourself around. Media like CDs and DVDs are also available and last I checked they were free to rent out. Security is tighter than I'm use to as last I checked they look through bags, but I guess it's expected. Take public transportation to get there, unless you can use a handicap parking space.

A very large library filled with books. Seriously a very large place. You can definitely find a nice corner to sit and enjoy your book. Downside - no parking. Seriously, parking is difficult and if you use the parking structure - it's a bit pricey.

Oh my goodness!! I don't think that you can get through this library in one entire week. It is huge!!! And they offer every book known to man. If you are searching for absolutely anything, you will find it at this library. I especially love their media center and their children's area. This is the best library experience. Its perfect for students with projects or if you just want to find a wonderful book. You have to visit this library. A truly a 5 star place. The only downfall is the parking situation. So take public transportion and your problem is solved. Otherwise you will spend at least 30 minutes looking for parking and alot of money on the meters. Typical San Francisco

The good: The San Francisco Public Library allows you to reserve books and tapes, etc. on-line, so that once that item becomes available somewhere in the San Francisco library system, they'll ship it to the Main Library and you can go pick it up. As long as you know exactly what you want, you don't need to waste time rummaging through the library.

The bad: Because of it's not-so-great location near the Tenderloin, etc., this library gets a lot of homeless traffic. It's open to the public, so what do you expect. The effect is such that the library seems to smell terrible all the time (especially the bathrooms).

Additionally, if at all possible try to avoid driving and parking at the library. For one thing, the parking lot is small so it's hard to find spots anyway. More annoyingly though, homeless people are always trying to help you find parking spots and wash your windows, so you'll feel extremely harassed.

When they moved the San Francisco Public Library from the old location in the charming vintage 1900's building, that actually felt like a library and was condusive to reading, they forgot to leave room for all of the books. This is the basic attitude that shows in the new builing, that books are not #1 here. The new building is a glassy, noisy mall like structure, built around an open area in the center that is supposed to be an archetectual wonder but also serves to conduct souds from every floor into every other floor. I try to avoid coming here.

A little known fact and cool thing to do if you want to learn more about san francisco. The SF Public Library holds free walking tours that last from 1 1/2-2 hours. Topics include "Gold Rush City," "Brothels, Boardinghouses & Bawds," Historic Market Street," and twenty more. call ahead to meet at the designated day, time, and place.
