The Scene
You don't need Irish eyes to be smiling at this peppy and popular Toluca Lake version of "Cheers," where everyone not only knows your name, but your drink as well. This charming Emerald Isle pub is a favorite hang for "Tolucans" and industry types from the nearby film studios. The narrow, main room features an elongated bar, with TVs at every angle. A jukebox plays everything from Van Morrison to modern rock. Upstairs, there's an expansive dining area, which offers a full menu and a family-friendly vibe.

The Draw
The laid back, yet jovial ambience draws the likes of Freddy Prinze Jr., Woody Harrelson and Keanu Reeves, who can be seen among the crowd for Laker games or the weekday happy hours. Also known for its innovative take on pub food, the scrumptious menu is highlighted by a mouth-watering Reuben sandwich and Irish nachos.

Key Points

  • Best fish 'n chips around!
  • 19 draft beers on tap!
  • Catering services available.

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Timmy Nolan's also provides catering service.
  2. When to Go - The bar serves free chili dogs during NFL football games.
  3. Happy Hour - Happy hours takes place Mondays through Fridays from 4pm to 7pm. Studio types from grips to A-list stars come for the $1 off on drinks and free appetizers.
  4. Know Before You Go - Get drinks faster on busy nights by taking the back stairway to the upper dining level, which has its own, less-crowded bar.

A Pleasant Experience

by Bob S.

With a date, I stopped in early on a Sunday evening for dinner and a couple drinks. I had been there many times during lunch on weekdays but wasn't exactly sure what to expect on the weekend. As it turned out it was very a pleasant experience with good service and good food. We are anxious to stop in again, very soon.

Great Fish and Chips !

by B. A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,435

I stopped in here for lunch with a friend and found a bar/restaurant with a great neighborhood feeling.

Lots of Emerald Isle decor and a friendly waitress. We sat upstairs in a booth which felt a little like being in a confessional !

The fish and chips was flavorful and fresh the fries were skin on - the way they should be!

Timmy Nolans is a piece of Ireland here in Toluca Lake!

by SCOT S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,921

I've been to Timmy Nolansd many times over the years and it is always a festive place to hang out, enjoy a cold one, watch sporting events, and mingle. A major Boston Celtic hangout, this old-time pub has a unique atmosphere that makes it one of the best and friendliest taverns in the area.

Timmy Nolans

I have never been to the tavern but have used them for catering. The food was excellent, hot, great variety. They took care of everything, drinks, table ware, and a staff person to serve and clean up!

Great LIttle Tavern!

by Bo & Jeff F. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,039

My Husband and I went here to grab an after dinner drink one night. We walked in and it was packed so we went upstairs and sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and gave us some samples of beer to try to decide on which new brew we liked. We had several beers and took a look at the menu, and decided we would try it for food one day. We ended up doing just that when we stopped in to watch a Laker game and have a drink! What a great surprise! Super Salads! Terrific service and great little tavern! It should be larger I agree, because is is just so darn popular!PROS: Great Food and ServiceCONS: Small Place - GET THERE EARLY!

Ok Food, Horrible Service

by Aubrey N. | insider Insider | Rank: 29,531

Timmy Nolan's is a restaurant and tavern in our neighborhood that we have only visited a handful of times, but the last visit will be the very last visit for us. We called to place our order in advance, a cajun chicken salad my husband likes. the young woman on the phone acted as if she were inconvenienced by the phone call. Just very rude and short in general. When I went in to pick up the order the older woman behind the bar handed me my ticket and walked away without a word or a smile and I never saw her again. So I walked to the other side of the bar and asked a gentleman if I could pay and get my order. He took my credit card and my signed receipt but walked away without giving me my food, but instead went on to help other patrons. I had to ask another waiter where my food was and explain that I had already paid. He said that it wouldn't be ready for a while, which I thought was odd, given that it was a salad we ordered 20 minutes in advance, not to mention he never even looked for it. So I asked him if he could check for me and guess what? It had been sitting there the whole time. to make a long story short, woth the exception of the kitchen, the staff is and has always been horrible and we will not spend our money there ever again.

PROS: So-so food
CONS: Rude staff, dirty looking

Watered Down Beer

by bridget1100

The draught beer was pretty much 50 % beer to 50 % water, including the Guinness. We went to this place last night, excited that there was an Irish pub nearby, to get some good beer and a burger. The service was pretty slow, and it was incredibly loud by about 8:30 with the crowd downstairs, but the waitress was really nice. Our main issue was that the beer was all basically pure water! First we ordered 2 Smithwicks, and when they came we thought either she had gotten our order wrong, or something was wrong with the tap. We asked the server to exchange them for two other beers, at which time we got a Guinness and a hefeweizen. We could literally see through the Guiness, which is an incredibly bad sign, and the hefeweizen tasted like the lemon that came with it. The waitress looked totally surprised when we told her that all three were pretty watery. We should have known to just stick to bottles after the Smithwicks. I mean, what's the point of an Irish pub if you can't get a decent beer on tap, especially Guinness!?

Pros: Friendly Staff

Cons: Water instead of Beer

Avoid on Friday Night, Saturday Night, Sunday Night, Monday Night...

by srvisFirst

If you are looking for a service oriented bar...this is not the one. You can wait and wait and wait for a drink especially on an early Friday Night or Saturday, Sunday, Monday....It is certain that you will wait even if you frequent the bar. I overheard that service is always a problem especially at night. I don't know about you but I would like to order within the half hour. The staff is too busy talking to other staff. This place is not recomended if you actually want to spend money and have a good time. Ego bartenders, that's right bartenders...well welcome to LA.... there are many other places that would love to have your business. No tips for the Slow and Stupid... Have a great weekend. Don't go to Timmy Nolans and you will have a better weekend...

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Bad Service

Best Reuben I've found, Servers are great

by BastienBauer

Until I ordered a Reuben here, I wasn't a fan of the sandwich. Since I've had one, I try to find other places that serve anything close to Timmy's masterpiece. I can say, that I haven't yet found one that's anywhere in the ballpark. I find myself craving a Reuben and a Stella. Not that bad service could keep me away, but it's actually the opposite. The service is great, and they're always there at the right time. Not too pesty, and not unavailable. Plus, all of the servers help you out, not just the one that took your order. I recommend eating upstairs after 5pm. There are plenty of TVs, and you can watch your food being made with care.
Oh yeah, and order the curly fries.

Pros: Great Food, Well Priced, Consistently Good Service

Cons: Downstairs can get crowded, but that's probably a good sign.

Descent place

by JJnVV

It's a descent place, descent prices and food and drinks and customers and staff. I wouldn't refuse to go there....

Pros: Everything is at least average to above average. Good for small groups who will eat a little.

Cons: Parking sometimes.

Exactly what it should be!

by hawnk

Great vibe and aesthetics. I eat lunch here about once every month. It feels like home as soon as you walk in. It's pub food the way it should be done. I really like the No blarney burger and the Irish Ruben is great as well! The bar is pretty standard in a good way with Guinness, Boddingtons, Bass, Harp, Wyder's Cider. I have been to many "pubs" only to be disappointed. Timmy's holds true.

Pros: It's all good

Cons: none

Best Irish pub you'll find.

by lttlredcorvette

I can't say enough good things about this place. The servers and staff and owners are some of the sweetest, friendliest people I've ever met. On our second visit to the bar, the bartender (Cara) remembered our names and our drinks (and even a weird little twist on the way I like my drink to be made). Everything on the menu is delicious (my top recommendations are the cheesesticks, curly fries, and tuna melt; my friend swears by the Irish stew, and my husband loves their salads and hot wings). We frequent this place a few times a week and are never disappointed. They've got a great jukebox and are super accommodating on Sundays when it comes to getting *your* team's game on the TV. It's truly like going to a bar that feels like home!

Pros: everything :)

Cons: can be a little crowded on weekend nights, so get there early

Tuesday night gatherings

by butrbiscut

I was introduces to Timmy's by my dad a few years ago. We go in for dinner occasionally and sit at the table upstairs by the front window. Since then I've taken many friends there for dinner and lately we've started gathering on Tuesday nights for some social time and relaxation in the bar downstairs.

As for the food, I highly reccommend the Dublin Chicken (marinated in a wine sauce with artichoke hearts and mushrooms) and the Irish Nachos (quartered potatos fried and topped with cheeses, peppers, onions and Irish Stew). The only complaint any friend has ever had about the food was that the corned beef is too lean, but that's a matter of personal preference.

The staff is great, very friendly and the jukebox has plenty of old and new favorites. I don't care much for all the TVs, but if you're a sports fan, Timmy's is a great place to be to watch a game. The upstairs area offers a respite from the noisiness downstairs during the busy hours.

My home away from home

by stevepmal

I moved out to Studio City by myself and Timmy's became a staple of mine weekly. Lunches or drinks in the evening, the patrons and staff were ALWAYS friendly. The food was exceptional especially the chicken quesadillas. Margarita and Co. made it a great experience.

Still Great

by otterlake1

Returning to LA for work, after a couple of years away, Timmy's is still a wonderful time. Stop in for lunch(JD wings, and a steak sandwich) and was pleased to meet a friendly staff, Cara was bartending, Matt(The owner) and the great cooks. I agree with the previous reviewer Margarita( spent many a happy hour with her there, (Stoli around the World shots, anyone?) A great place to eat, catch a game, play some tunes on the Juke box or just relax after work. Can't wait to return later this summer.

Pros: Food, Laughs, conversation

Cons: parking

Margarita sends all her best

by margarita1378

I use to work at timmy nolans a few years ago, and This place is one of the best kept secret places to go. Not only is the food absolutly great ( the owner matt and his wife, belva sent me the chicken marsala 3000 miles to me when I was pregnant- those darn cravings) but the people are some of the kindest people in LA. I worked there almost everyday bartending and I still miss it every now and then. If you decide to go, you'll be hooked and keep going back. You have to try the chx marsala. Delicious!!!!
Tell them Margarita sends her best!

Pros: food, bartenders, price

Cons: not big enough

Kind and Comfortable

by bigdaddyzack

Absolutely a place to relax and have a drink with some friends. Most people come in groups so don't expect Timmy's to be a hook up joint. Also, the downstairs (main) area is small and gets overcrowded quickly. The drinks are average in price and power. The food is average bar fare. The nice thing about Timmy's is the staff - friendly and appreciative. I've also found that the upstairs is an ideal place for get togethers and private or semi-private parties. Its not my regular choice only because its a bit too mellow for my tastes but, if you're looking for a quiet night out with some friends - this is your place.

Pros: great service, comfortable place, good party room

Cons: can get too crowded, a bit "click-ish"

snobbish

by omalley62

I have tried this place close to my Burbank home a few times. Some real stuck-up Tolucans, and thats just the staff. You really don't feel welcome unless you are a regular within a one mile radius. Lighten-up, my money is green too!

Pros: interior, location

Cons: , price, disdain for outsiders

"Cheers" To Timmy's in Toluca Lake

by dalydose

This place is the friendliest bar I've found since leaving Michigan and Chicago. Neighborhood bar feel with great staff & great customers. Good beer selection and they even started using Coke again (Pepsi ruins drinks)!

Pros: Friendly, Beer Selection, Moderately Prices

Cons: , Notre Dame fans :)

Friendliest place for miles around

by burbanksteve

Timmy's is probably the friendliest bar you'll ever hope to find. You come here because of the atmostphere that the customers generate, not for any gourmet dining experience or the latest fad. If you're friendly and genuine it doesn't take long for the staff and the regulars to get to know you and treat you like you're part of the furniture Lunch and dinner specials change daily. Big selection of draft beers - 10 at the last count. Great place to watch the Lakers, Notre Dame Football games and NASCAR on HDTV.

Pros: Good mix of people, Great TV sports, Not a meat market

Cons: , Limited day parking

Not sure where the review for this place came from. Went last night, sat at the bar and was told to hold on a minute...sat for a couple more minutes while bartender (girl) proceed to talk to everyone else and then started cleaning glasses. Horrible service. I would not reccomend unless u happen to just walk by.

Pros: hmmmm?

Cons: ambience, service

A real neighborhood bar

by shastarob

Friendly neighborhood pub. Good food and good people make this bar a Toluca Lake favorite. In the big LA it is hard to find very many places like Timmy's. Bring your friends and toss back a few while enjoying yourself.

A great pub to hang with your buddies and kick back a few too many. The menu can be surprisingly good although stay away from the fried dishes...always too greasy.
