I can't speak to Dr. Locke specifically, but I can speak to the vet as a whole.

Profit driven - will push unnecessary drugs, treatments and procedures on you. I was suspicious of this and therefore visited a new vet. My suspicians were confirmed.

Cat vaccinations are good for 3 years, yet this vet will try to tell you that they need them every year. This practice is dishonest and unacceptable in my opinion. Good luck!

When this place first opened years ago I too worked in the same center. We had a cat that was not ours climb into my husbands car motor and when he made a turn at a nearby corner he heard a cat scream and saw it run out.He found the cat hiding at the gas station brought it home to me and it's neck was sliced from the fan blade. We did not have much money back in those days and I called the vet first thing when they opened and they told me to come right away. Dr. Garrolinni saw the cat and asked me if I was considering keeping the animal I said sure but what was the cost? it was not our cat. He did everything the cat needed repaired her neck with surgery, shots, fixed her the works for a mininum amount of money. I was not able to keep the cat as the one I had and her did not get along. I gave it to my parents who have a ranch and she lived a full life on the farm with all sorts of animals. I will never forget his genorosity and kidness of himself and his staff. At that time it was his wife running the front desk. I since have taken all my animals, last year they had to put down another cat for me and they did it in the most sensitive way. I now for the first time ever have a dog. The love of my life. I rescued him but, in reality he rescued me. Today we are off to CI Vet because he is itching I would never think of going anywhere else for my pets.

They are very kind here and know what they are doing. I have one dog who can be pretty difficult, and they are very patient with her. Our main doc is Dr Anderson and we love him! We have also had the other vets when he was out, and they have all been great. The staff is wonderful.

I didn't even know about this website until someone in the waiting room told me to go on it...

My dog was sick a while back and I normally take her to Dr. Anderson but he was out that day, so I saw Dr. Garrollini. BIG MISTAKE! He wanted to do a number of things that he made very confusing. I agreed to doing blood work that would be back the next day. I mentioned that I wanted my regular vet Dr. Anderson to call me with the results and Dr. Garrolllini went off the handle! He made me feel like I didn't want to take care of my dog and that I was just some stupid mexican when all I asked was that I wanted to speak to Dr. Anderson about the results. I was appalled. The nurse that gave me the estimate apologized for his behavior. Her apology made it seem like it happens a lot. What a shame. I still continue to take my dog there, but only when Dr. Anderson is in.

By the way...that dachshund that he saved...if you read the old article in the waiting room it says the public sent money to pay for the bill. He got paid!!

A few years ago, a dachsund was attacked and stabbed, leaving him in VERY critical condition. The family could not afford to pay the bill, and brought the dog in to be euthanized. The owner of the clinic saw that the dog was young, and had a good chance of living. The offered ALL of their services for FREE! This was the reason I began to utilize this hospital for my beloved pets.

This was 8 or 10 years ago. Since then, my mother has brought all of her cats there, and I bring my 3 cats and dogs there as well. (I just got a new puppy on Friday and needed to call to get his shots, when I saw this review on Google.) Never ONCE have they done a bad job. My dog needed knee surgery too, and after he got it, he was a happy and healthy little camper. He is 11 years old now, and he plays so hard with his little friend that I have to stop them, because I worry that they get too rough.

I do agree that Dr. Anderson is the best doctor there. I believe it was he who did the actual work on the little dachsund that would have died.

I'm sorry that others have had negative experiences, but my experiences there have all been wonderful.

I have 5 dogs and and I use to go to the CI Vet Hospital, when I say "use to" it's only because of a financial situation that I don't go there anymore. However when I did go there, I will say that all the staff were wonderful, the girls at the desk always remembered me, my family members, my dogs names (all 5), and they always gave my pups kisses and treats. I felt that Dr. Anderson and Dr. Greniere were the doctors I personally preferred to work with. I did find that certain tests were "pushed" upon me at times when I believed them not necessary, but I'm not a vet either. I did not like many of the fee's structures, and the idea of being charged additional fee's for follow-up when I had already laid down a ton of cash the first visit. All in all, my wonderful pets were always taken care of while in their care with no apparent problems.

I boarded my dog there and he came back smelling like urine. He had daily medication to be given (I was charged $5.50 each day extra!) which he did not receive 3 doses! I know this because I counted the pills. When I asked how he was with the other dogs, the girl told me they don't interact with the other pets. They do not offer playtimes. I was told they are "walked" twice a day and fed. That is it. There is no grass to walk them in so I assumed they were walked around the block. No such luck! They take them about 50 feet away from the building into a very small dirt patch where there is construction happening. I understand they can't control some situations, but they SHOULD NOT SAY THEY HAVE A BOARDING FACITLITY!! I was very upset! The girl at the counter blew it off like I was an idiot for even inquiring how my pet's stay was. She kept referring to my dog as a "candybar", or "babycakes". I think she just didn't know her name. She was EXTREMELY ANNOYING and very unhelpful. I also heard her talking to other customers and she seemed very unsure of her answers and was even corrected by another employee when she gave the WRONG MEDICATION to someone . All in all, bad boarding facility (more expensive than REAL boarding facilities) , and very uneducated front desk girl!

All the other doctors there, especially the Chief doctor will push things on you that are not necessary. All little dogs have knee problems, and my yorkie apparently has bad knees. He runs, jumps and acts completely normal, but this doctor will push the knee surgury on you. Dr. Anderson seems a lot more understanding and returns calls very fast, especially when my dogs were having puppies. Over priced, but otherwise worth it for the fru fru stuff that they provide.

My 4 month old puppy unfortunately ate a whole bag of milk chocolate chips. Note to self, ensure you put away all the groceries. We called the vets office and I was able to take her in immediately. They gave her medicine to rid her of the chocolate and said she??d be OK. They mentioned that dark chocolate is the worst (higher coco content) but all chocolate is bad for dogs. I??ve been a client of Channel Island Vet for years and I will continue to take all my dogs there for their medical needs.

My cat got sick after boarding her here, but they were very helpful in getting her well. I was not happy they forgot to vaccinate her, but it was my fault too, I had been told by another vet center not to vacinnate her due to her diabetes. Wrong! Thanks for your help.
The office staff is very nice and the vets are first class, but make double sure your cat or dog has its shots before boarding anywhere, I found out the hard way.
Thanks Dr. Anderson for everything.

I had to take my mini schnauzer to a vet , being new to the area this was the closest one. I told the receptionist the seriousness of the problem and she wanted me to wait all day for the chief of staff. He spent the whole visit putting me down for doing natural medicine on her for Cushings, which by the way, she is doing great and I would use the drugs if necessary, anyway I brought her in for tonsillitis and after I got home I saw a large lesion on her face he missed. I took her then to a specialist for Cushings who said she is doing great with management, but she found huge throat erosions that Dr Nino missed completely. Needless to say, I would not recommend this place and it's a shame because the location is great. the prices are the highest prices I have ever witnessed in 30 years of vets. Go to Adobe Animal and see Dr O'Neil ! I found her after 3 bad vets, she's the real deal up here in Oxnard area.

The staff are great here; they've always treated me well. The vets are nice, and have done some nice things for me. I really have mixed feelings, because sometimes I've felt like I haven't been told about all of my options. For example, thyroid surgery was pushed on me very hard when a better option for a cat is to get radiation treatment (thyroid surgery can have nasty effects, like facial paralysis). I've also felt, at times, that the profit motive runs a little high...like the time my cat reacted to his vaccinations and had to be hospitalized...the doctor would not admit what happened (oh, gee, he must have caught a virus on the way over), even though I did not dispute the *huge* bill for hospitalization. Oh, and I probably should mention that I did tell the doctor that my cat was sensitive to shots, but he was given them all at once anyway. (Carelessness). The keyword here is to get second opinions and be really proactive in demanding good care. Better yet, go in the back room with your animal. Even better yet, try a different clinic. I did.

PROS: Kind staff.
CONS: High profit motive, don't always get all the information you need.
