Wheatberry is no longer in business since May 2008, per a sign on their door. So sorry to see it go. It was a favorite and popular casual dining place.

I have been to Wheatberry several times. I have had a chance to try several of their breads and have yet to be dissappointed. Anything here made with pastry dough is going to be wonderful. My favorite combination at Wheatberry is a pain au chocolat with a regular coffee. The coffee is a little on the strong side, but we all could use a good kick in the pants, right? The staff is always eager to please and friendly.

Pros: Reliable, high quality breads and pastries

Cons: parking can be tough if you get there past 11AM on weekends

This place is great! Everything looked so great and it was hard to decide what to order. I asked the person at the register what they suggested and they told me either the turkey sandwich or pesto chicken. I decided on the pesto chicken and wow. You would expect those tastes to come from a full service upper scale restaurant. After lunch I had to try a red velvet cupcake. I took it to go and ate it at work in the late afternoon. I have to say it was the best cupcake I've ever had.

It's not a fast food place, but its sure fast for not being a fast food place. I haven't tried everything on the Menu, but so far I'm satisfied with what I've had. its a place where you can relax and enjoy a great time with friends...where you can just get up and buy some treats, food, or drinks. and everything there is so delicious. there's no such thing as a bad choice. my friends love this place and all the stuff there. I like to go do homework there after school or just like go with friends for breakfast and lunch to talk and catch up on things. its just a really nice place.

I decided to stop by this place on my way to work this morning. I'd never been there before, and when I got in everything looked very presentable and good. But while I was ordering I noticed one worker using his bare hands to pull out pastries to fill an order, and when I got to work with my order I realized they had screwed up my order. The cashier had gone over every item included in my breakfast sandwich, in such detail that I thought she was paying attention. But somewhere between ordering and actually getting my sandwich both the egg and the cheese and the bacon were lost, so that I was left with not a breakfast sandwich, but a very non-breakfasty, basic HAM sandwich.

Located on Lake Avenue in the heart of Pasadena, Wheatberry bakery cafe has become my favorite spot to have lunch or hang out with colleagues. This cafe has beaufully designed decor, offers free wi-fi, and the some of the best premium sandwiches and European-inspired pastries to tantalize your pallate. My favorites are Chicken Salad sandwich that includes cranberries, celery, walnut, lemon peel, etc. and cheese danish. Yummy!

the food here is phenomenal! i got 1/2 a sandwich and salad for about $5!! the sandwich was great! i got a hot chicken pesto sandwich with mushrooms and cheese. i highly recommend it! the desserts looked great. we were going to get one after dinner, but we got such terrible service we didnt want to stay. the people working there were not helpful at all and were actually pretty rude. i wish i could rate the food and service separately. i would go here again for the food, i just wouldnt expect anything out of the employees.

Went here for dinner. The food was really good. They have a variety of different sandwiches salads and soups for reasonable prices. They also have an amazing dessert and bakery selection. I would go back however the service was TERRIBLE. When we first walked in it was our first time and we had a question. The employees were talking to themselves and ignored us. Then when i tried to order what looked like the manager told me to go to another register. Then I ordered and clearly asked for a beverage with the meal, our food was brought to us without my beverage and I asked if i could please have it. The guy went back to the register then the girl that took my order said oh you didnt get a drink with your meal, and I said yes i asked you for one and she said well I didnt put it on there and walked away!!!! She didnt even offer to get me one or if i would like to purchase one or if i would like water. WOW i wont be going back even though the food was good

PROS:
CONS: TERRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE

After reading all the praises, I decided to pay a visit to check this place out for myself. I visited the place twice, once during the week and once during the weekend at a different time (purposely).

The ambient was good and the serivce was attentive. Though, the layout could use some improvement. The restooms were fairly clean. One thing for sure is the bakery is any thing but European. It would be an insult to European bakeries if you call this store a European bakery. In fact, this establishment is owned and operated by Koreans. Their cakes are fairly acceptable but not all that great. After 5:00PM they run half-price on some of the cakes.

Nothing is special about their drink selection either. Overall it's a store that tries to appeal to the yuppie or yuppie wanna be. Located in the middle of the most expensive business district of Pasadena, Wheatberry is catreing to a specific clientele with its European flavored atmosphere. But the European flavor is definitely not in their breads or pasteries.

i love this place. great pastries, breads, etc., at decent value. i'm not a fan of the corner bakery (the chain) down the street, and over the past year have found the oft-praised euro pane to be very inconsistent... and sometimes just downright dirty inside. despite the inconsistent staffing wheatberry gets my vote for bakery restaurant in pasadena.

Excuse me, but there is much better to be found in Pasadena for real European pastries. Ahem, have any of you tried EuroPane?
90% of their products are better. There is nothing special here.
Only good thing here are the large restrooms and the free internet.

PSSSS.... Have recently discovered a little secret...Wheatberry is just a secondary location for a larger chain based out of downtown los angeles by the name of Paris Baguette. Go there to find the same products but for a lot less!!!

PROS: Free internet access, 50% off after 5
CONS:

This place is wonderful; I wish I would have discovered it sooner. It is a bakery and caf. They serve great breakfasts and lunches (and Im pretty sure they are open for dinner). They offer hot and cold sandwiches that are oh-so-good. You can order a sandwich, a salad, a cup of soup, and a drink for $7. I think that at this price they cant be beat. As you are standing in line to order you they have all their sweets and breads displayed. It is hard to resist there butter croissants filled with cream and strawberries or to get a fresh baguette to bring home for dinner. I cant wait to have an occasion to buy one of their cakes or fruit tortes. The fruit on them was so fresh! It wasnt very crowded so is one of my new favorite places to go on my lunch hour.

The food here was outstanding! They have a wide variety of sandwich selections. I had the turkey avocado and it was great! For $7.50, you can get a half sandwich, soup, and salad AND a small drink. I think that's quite a value. I recommend the corn chowder soup and also, their baked goods were fantastic. They offer little punch cards if you frequent the bakery so make sure to remind them! Great service, great food.

PROS: yum! Everything was good

Delicious bakery located on South Lake Avenue. The breakfast pastries and muffins are amazing! Their loaves of bread are also a must - my favorite is the rosemary bread. I can't wait to try one of their cakes because they are so beautiful!

This is a great little bakery, perfect for a late morning breakfast or late afternoon lunch. The breads are delicious and the sandwhiches are healthy portions. The Pastrami and Chicken Pesto are excellent! Great deserts and assortment of fun drinks. Very affordable!

If you're craving some old-world breads, cakes, pastries and great coffee - Wheatberry Bakery & Cafe is fantastic!
They have a great selection of freshly baked European style breads, baguettes, ciabatta rolls and every kind of pastry and cakes.
Wheatberry is also great for lunch - they make fresh and delicious sandwiches accompanied by salads.
They also serve Illy coffee - which is the best cofffee you can find this side of the pond.
Great atmosphere.
They only complain I would have as a European purist is that they use "plastic-ware" instead of silverware. It's also self-serve but I'm willing to forgive that. Eating with a plastic fork is inexcusable.
The decor is tasteful and it's a great little cafe for a weekend lunch and truly the best breads.

PROS: Breads, pastries, cakes, and coffee.
CONS: Plastic forks, self-service. Lousy Caesar dressing.

Wheatberry offers freshly baked bread daily and a delicious variety of cakes and pastries. The croissants are served fresh, warm, and flakey -- not flat, hard and cold like at most places. A great Sat. lunch eat!

The cakes here are delicious -- they also bake fresh bread for sale by the loaf each day. Try their cinnamon raisin loaf - it looks like an extra thick slice of bread (and you can get it sliced and toasted), it's delicious! Their Fruit tarts are amazing as well. Their sandwiches and combinations -- all good! They have now started opening up till 8 or so for dinner-- but if you want to buy a cake for a special occasion, come earlier or your choices will be limited!

A great find on South Lake (near Sharkey's) that has delicious bread and 2 refridgerator sections of baked goods that will make you salivate. Their sandwich selections, both hot & cold, use their fresh breads, crisp vegetables, tasty cheeses and good meats. Try the hot Chicken/Pesto panini with melted swiss. Yum! For the sweet tooth I recommend the Chocolate Almond croissant--to die for! (I mistakenly ordered that instead of the plain choco croissant and will never return to the plain one.)
