Ratings_icons My sick puppy died.

michael c.

This is an update on my baby Rocky mentioned in the previous review. He sadly passed away Christmas morning in my lap of heart failure. I will miss him terribly.

Ratings_icons SICK SICK PUPPIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MIKE C.

I am writing this review because I cannot empahsize strongly enough not to buy any pets from this place.
I purchased an eight week old puppy from Uptown Pets and within the first few days he was coughing.
about a week or so loater he collapsed, we rushed him to the E. R.

This kept happening every couple weeks for bout three months and we could not figure out what was wrong
with him. Finally in late July he collapsed again this time he was critical. By the time I got him there he was basically put in critical care and stayed there for three days. We had multiple tests done by cardiologists and 2 vets. We discovered he had a congenitally
enlarged heart.

All of these vet bills and E.R. visits toalled more than 4,000 dollars. Once we got our puppy stabilized and back
home, I rounded up all of his vet bills, diagnosis paper from the cadiologist and brought them to Pets Uptown.

There I spoke with "Ryan" (the owner). I was hoping he would stand by his health guarantee stated on the purchase
receipt and the California Puppy Lemon Law. He told me to get back to him in a week and he would write me a check
for 150 % of the purchase price of the puppy, as staed in the Lemon Law.

Well I called and called for 2 /1/2 months and all I got was a Repeated sob story regarding his financial state.
After about three months of calling I finally got a woman on the phone who magically wasa the new owner
of Uptown Pets. She stated to me that she was not liable to reimburse me because she did not sell me my puppy.

My puppy is now on 5 heart pills a day and must receice frequent care at the vet and cardiologist. These
monthly expenses total 200- 300 dollars a month. Very sad to see my puppy suffer, yet I will pay because
we are so attached to the little guy.

My advice to anyone thinking of purchasing a pet from this place is to NOT do it, these are sick animals they are
trying to sell, probably from puppy mills.

The staff charged my debit card for a deposit on a puppy without asking or notifying me before I even saw the dog. I didn't want the puppy and I'm still waiting for my account to be credited almost a week later.

Ratings_icons Over priced neighborhood store shop somewhere else

Dee F.

The owner of this joint is rude. The products sold are way over priced. I agree with some of the other reviews that his pets are not well kept and not to mention over priced. Safe yourself the heartache of buying a pet there. I would even shop at mutropolis any day before I shopped for pet stuff at his store.

I recently purchased a puppy from this store, and within 3 mo. she became ill. The owner is trying to deny that it is of genetic causes even though the Vet I took her to put it writing. I paid $750 for this puppy and the bills to treat her will cost hundreds of dollars with no guarantee that she will be OK. We'll see if this store follows the law that states the store must re-reimburse the purchaser up to 150% of the cost of the pet to cover treatment for illness due to congenital defect....

Ratings_icons Unethical business

This store sold my wife and me two kittens that very soon after became sick with panleukopenia, a.k.a. feline distemper. We spent a lot of money trying to save their lives but they both died. A store employee later admitted to us that they had allowed the cats to come into contact with a customer who had sick animals with her. They were clearly negligent in allowing this to happen before the kittens' vaccinations had time to take effect, and in separating the kittens from their mother and vaccinating them when they were too young. We later found out that they had violated numerous laws, such as failing to give us the standard piece of paper informing us of our rights when purchasing the pets. The owner would not admit that he had done anything wrong, and for all we know they are still carrying out the same kinds of unconscionable practices.
Please do not support these people by buying the expensive pet costumes and supplies that keep them in business, let alone whatever animals they are selling. Normally we would not have even purchased kittens from a pet store, but the staff assured us that they were merely acting as an intermediary for pets that needed a home rather than those bred for sale in the store. If you want to adopt a pet, just go to the Humane Society or other animal shelter, and find a trustworthy supplier for your pet's needs.

Ratings_icons Nice clean store, friendly staff

Anonymous

I have been shopping here for years and find it convenient because it is close to my home. I have never had any problems with the staff, they are always friendly enough and know their products. I recently bought a puppy there, and have had no problems. The owner says that all of their puppies are from small local breeders or families known to her, and I have no reason to doubt that. Yes, they are a bit pricey for some items, but this isn't a huge chain like Petco. It's a small store in a pricey neighborhood, so you can't expect discount store prices. My only complaint is that they carry limited supplies of most dog and cat foods, and often run out. Same with Advantage. So I still have to run to Petco or Petsmart occasionally, but otherwise I have no complaints.

I did buy a kitten here last June which turned out to be the sweetest cat you can imagine. She is perfectly healthy. However, the pet store gave her shots before I bought her and they did it incorrectly causing a reaction a permanent loss of hair (about the size of a nickel or quarter) on her back. Other than that, no problems. They are way overpriced as well.

Ratings_icons Bad Prices and Bad Ethics

Gabrielle C.

Pets Uptown looks like the kind of small local business that the conscious San Diegan wants to support, but their ethics are less than par. Their products are GROSSLY overpriced even for an independent business, their puppies are OBVIOUSLY from puppy mills, or at the very least, irresponsible breeders. And finally, the staff is NOT particularly knowledgeable, and ARE particularly rude. Just say no to this one.

Ratings_icons Healthy Puppy

Anonymous

I recently purchased a Chihuahua puppy (late September) who has exhibited no health problems. The store provided a free exam at a veterinarean in Mission Gorge and a three day return policy if the animal had had any serious defects. They would have paid for any medication necessary for a cough, diahrrea, etc. but thankfully my little puppy was given a clean bill of health. I agree that they are over priced - $750 for a dog with no papers seemed a little extreme, but I fell in love and could not control myself. I am glad I chose to buy all of her supplies at PetSmart, I think I saved at least $100. I got the puppy two days before she was due for her next shot and the store picked up the tab for the DPPH that Saturday at the clinic which comes to the store periodically.

Ratings_icons price control problems

Dawn D.

With a tense situation with a sick fish, I sent my boyfriend to nearby Pets Uptown in Hillcrest to buy some medicine. They charge $23 for a product, 8 tabs of Maracyn-2, that costs $6.49 at Petco and $7.49 at Pet Kingdom! Even a 24 tab pack costs only $17.99 Staff were indifferent and didn't care to even check the price, much less help people with a sick animal, so we are taking our business elsewhere.

Ratings_icons My Neighborhood pet store

Pets uptown is my Neighborhood pet store. The people who work there are not only friendly but knowledgable about their products. There is a talking bird that greets you with a hello everytime you walk thru the door! It is less expensive than the nearby boutiques and has alot of good products. I buy individual flea medications at a reasonable price as needed.

I come here to do shopping for my two GermanShepherd and we find some pretty unique items, not like the chain stores! And the prices won't break the bank.

The best part about this pet store is that it isn't a chain store. The stpre is always clean and the employees really care about animals. They are conveniently located in the Uptown Shopping Center.
