Was in La Jolla for a quick weekend getaway and decided to try the Crab Catcher. It was a warm day so we were out on the deck with a great view watching the waves. Menu arrived and then a family with an infant and 2 toddlers were seated right next to us. The children are immediately screaming, throwing silverware, and being very poorly behaved. I am a parent of 3 but not every restaurant is kid friendly. If you want to go somewhere that is an adult restaurant get a baby sitter! Anyway, we hadn't ordered and were considering leaving as was the other table next to them when the hostess saved the day. She moved the family off the deck and into an area of the restaurant that didn't have anyone in it and those on the deck went back to enjoying the view and the company. We started with Crab Bisque, I had Crab Cakes and Boo had Mussles and a bottle of white wine, everything was spot on.

Wonderful food, great service, awesome views!! You can't go wrong with this restaurant. There happy hour is awesome.

Place is not cheap. Lunch for 2 will run you about $80 plus gratuity, but... the 180 degrees view over the ocean is amazing.

Celebrating mom's birthday at Crab Catcher and view. My mom got food poisoned by Crab Cake or the horrible Lobster Bisque. If you like your bisque with mostly cream then you will like this dish. No lobster flavor, just cream. My elderly mom was up all night up in the bathroom! My fish was over cooked and dry and they tried to cover it up with mounds of oozing mayonaise. My dad's omelet, was dry and overcooked! How does a restaurant screw up every dish!

Don't bother making special request for reservations, THEY DON'T DO it! They are WAY too overpriced for poorly cooked food. You're better served sitting at the bar and enjoying the view. I sincerely don't recommend eating here. The service unprofessional, slow but nice. I can't believe this restaurant is still in business. It must be the tourist or the bar that keeps this business running. The decor is out dated.

One last thing...my fries tasted as though it was cooked in the same fryer they cooked their fish. My fries smelled/tasted fishy!

Before dinner, my parents and I decided to have some cocktails in the bar. This may not have been such a great idea as service was slow and my martini, which was advertised as coming with "blue cheese olives" only came with a singular olive. Not a big deal, but when I pointed this out to the waitress she seemed very disinterested and said she didn't know what to tell me but that I could buy two more for a dollar. Had she seemed just a bit more concerned that might not have come out of her tip. However, the service in the restaurant was exceptional. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. However, both my halibut and my mother's sea bass were dry. This was really disappointing as I had really been looking forward to enjoying my locally caught fish. The sauces and sides made up somewhat as both dishes were very flavorful. Were I to choose again, I would go with the cioppino. Fresh seafood with just the right amount of spice. Very tasty. Overall, I was expecting much more. The Crab Catcher has a reputation for exceptional seafood, so when it is overcooked it is really disappointing.

My mother is over 90 years young, an getting her to go out is difficult to say the least, but when I mention the Crab Catcher and those crab cakes, she hits the door leaving her walker behind. My wife and I always visits the Crab Catcher when were in La Jolla. I grew up in San Diego and now live in the San Francisco Bay Area namely Walnut Creek, CA We make one to two trips a year to San Diego and enjoy the Del Coranado and La Jolla.

Thanks for keeping my childhood alive.

Pros: Thumbs up, I have never had problems parking directly in front. wonderful views & service

Cons: Too many people visit La Jolla in the summer. Dah! It must be because of its beauty.

I have been to the Crab Catcher once and I really enjoyed going there. I sat on the third floor balcony and it is overlooking the ocean and you can here the waves while eating. It has the perfect feel and gorgeous view while dining. I had the crab legs which were unbelievably good! They have reasonable prices seeing though it is a seafood restaurant it is going to be more than going to a burger place. The server we had was extremely helpful and top of everything we needed.

As far as formal dining goes, Crab Catcher is nice-- decor is dim but not dark/cave-like and there is a great view... if you can get close enough to it. I didn't get a sea-side view but from what I could see, it was nice. Ordered the calamari as appetizer and then soft shell crab as entree. My date ordered Alaskan crab legs and those were DELICIOUS. I have never had crab legs that good-- apparently they are never frozen and freshly shipped. Fantastic. The soft-shell crab was good but not out of this world. I hear they have a great happy hour as well.

We went to the restaurant on our aniversary. We had to make reservations because it is an extremely busy restaurant. When we arrived there waiter greeted us right away. The menu was not large at all, which we prefer. The lobster bisque was delicious and the dressing on the salad was amazing. The service and the food were great.

The best and biggest king crab legs I have ever had came from the Crab Catcher. The secret to the best dining here is to sit on the third floor balcony. You are outside and overlooking the waves crashing on the shore. A bit spendy for an average evening out, but for special occasions, it's the tops!
