I actually try to review places I recommend because I find that most helpful- but I was so disappointed with the food at Marrakesh I feel obligated to warn you.

I typically like lamb when it is prepared right- but the lamb at Marrakesh was terrible- rubbery and dry. The worst part was that this restaurant is very expensive.

I recently had the misfortune to be invited to this establishment in La Jolla. It was empty the entire time we had dinner (a clue, I guess). It was incredibly over priced. The waiter was surly and reached directly in front of my face, not once but twice without any apology. I was amazed overall. The food was poorly spiced and overcooked. I would NOT recomend this place at all.

Pros: Dark room

Cons: Bad service, terrible food

I went here with about 10 people to celebrate a birthday party a few years back. We asked for menus, but were told by the owner (or manager) that such a large group was not allowed to order from the menu and that we should just buy a group meal which he promised was going to be very special. The girl whose birthday we were celebrating was vegetarian, so we didn't even order any meat.

The one and only dish we were served (which I don't know the name of) was a big pile of perhaps vegetables, lentils and chickpeas served in kind of a stew that we were told to eat with our fingers. As a dish, it was ok at best but certainly did not constitute a meal given that it was the only course we were served.

The big surprise though was the bill which came out to close to $60 per person even though we ordered only three alcoholic drinks for the entire party. Everyone was really mad and felt like we were ripped off. I''m surprised this place is still in business given all the complaints.

Pros: OK atmosphere.

Cons: Severe Price Gouging, Mediocre Food.

I just had dinner here with my wife and we will never be back.

The food was terrible, the service was poor, and the atmosphere was mediocre at best. The food is way, way overpriced ($32.95 for a poorly prepared mixed grill seems in retrospect insane). To top it all off we had a gift certificate to this restaurant and after giving it to the host prior to ordering we noticed that our meals came out much smaller and less well prepared than the identical meals that were ordered at the table next to us. Adding insult to injury, the restaurant charged us tax on the entire bill prior to applying our gift certificate, meaning we effectively paid tax on our gift certificate twice. I didn't bother complaining about this as it seemed like a small slight after being served such overpriced, poorly prepared food.

Eat at this restaurant at your own risk- if your experience was anything like ours you'll regret ever having been there.

Came here with a group of 3 others later in the evening after a train ride back to San Diego- most restaurants in the area were closed, but the sign for Marrakesh declared they were open. We decided to check it out and asked for a menu, but they said they didn't have one and rushed us off to the dining area and seated us. They gave us four options: chicken, beef, lamb, or vegetarian. It turns out it was a huge 4-or-5 course meal- which we had never asked for- and the bill turned up at the end to be about $40 each. It was incredibly deceptive and we felt we could not leave after being seated. The restaurant was empty too- never a good sign! The food was alright, but it took nearly 2 hours to finish the meal. Overall would NOT recommend.

If you are going out w/ another couple, this is a fun place. They have belly dancing after 8.

I usually get the vegetarian dinner, and it's a ton of food. Think of it as low key..sit on the comfy cushion style chairs, healthy morrocan food, plus a show for about 25-30 per person.

I love the mint tea and baklava style dessert at the end.

If you like reg. restaurant chain food, go to Chili's..because this is MOROCCAN food.

Love it!

Marrakesh is a fun place to go with a group, because of the traditionally decorated interior and the belly dancing, but it is much overpriced for the quality. You get a standard prefix meal with 4 courses, and it comes out to more than $100 for a family. The quality is not all that it should be for such a price.

My friends and I went to this resturant a year ago. I've been going by this restaurant for years on Pearl Street and never knew that it was a resturant. We walked in and the resturant inside was really neat. The seating is almost like a couch and some chairs, and it is very confortable. They have a bellydancer who comes out laster on that night for entertainment which was neat. Thge menu didn't have any prices and you bearly knew what you were getting. It was a five corse dinner I believe and nothing I had I thought was very good except the desert. I found the beef pie with cinnamon on the top odd, but then again I am not really into that kind of food. The servers weren't very friendly and never asked us if we would like anything to drink they just gave us water. We got the bill at the end of the night and for that food that we all split (it was individual portions) was $145 dollars. I will never go there again because of the employees and how ridiculously expensive the food was.
