Cliff's Edge is the culmination of the design talents of friends Dana Holister and Keith Greco. Their vision was to create a warm, inviting yet playful dining atmosphere. At Cliff's Edge guests can sit back, relax and share a variety of eclectic dishes. Chef Hugues Quintard and Proprietor Pierre Casanova have devised an inventive culinary experience, offering an array of flavorful and creative plates inspired by the Mediterranean Countryside.

Editorial by Citysearch

In Short
Concealed from the street by greenery-covered walls, urban eclectics covet tables on the tree-shaded, two-level garden patio. Inside, a low-ceilinged, dimly lit dining room is appointed in minimalist decor, with throw pillows and Cirque du Soleil-inspired patterns. A Mediterranean-accented menu begins with plates of fritto misto and honey-sauteed figs over toasted brioche. Pastas include pumpkin or veal ravioli and linguine with clams, and entrees range from pecan-crusted trout to sirloin steak. Brunch options include omelettes, eggs and crepes.

Key Points

  • Unique Balinese Garden dining
  • Daily cocktail specials
  • Warm, eclectic dining room

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - The restaurant has no sign or other identifying features. Look for the entrance directly north of the neighboring 99 Cent store.
  2. When to Go - If you'd like a garden table, make reservations for weekend brunch or an early evening dinner. Neighborhood ordinance calls for the patio to close at 11pm.

Great food and cute restaurant

by Debbie B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 222

The brunch here is fabulous and the atmosphere is awesome. The food is good, but the service can sometimes be off and on. I'd definitely recommend it for brunch in the area.

Outdoor Dining

by Michael Fran

I'd make the argument Silverlake has the best outdoor dining in LA between Cliff's Edge, Cafe Stella and Speranza. Stella and Speranza have better food in my mind, but you can't beat the ambiance of Cliff's patio. Get a group table beneath the patio's centerpiece tree for any special occasion and you can't help but set the night in the right direction.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Foor-for-buck

Trendy food in Trendsville, USA

by BBELA

So, ?Thelma and Louise? took me to brunch at the trendy Cliff?s Edge in Silverlake for my birthday. This place is incredible. We sat outside under the shade of an enormous tree which was exploding out of the floor of that portion of the restaurant. I felt like I was eating at a resort in Hawaii. It?s a pretty damn cool spot.

I had the eggs Benedict with rosemary potato wedges. I could have used a little more sauce, but overall a great item to order. The potatoes were perfection. Very cripsy. Louise?s mushroom surprise omelette was devoured in it?s entirety, so I can only assume it was something worth ordering.

I kept my sunglasses on the entire time like a typical LA a**hole, but this was necessary. The sun was not my friend that morning. And by morning, I mean afternoon. The gals ordered mimosas. I noticed the place offered bloodorange mimosas, they looked terrific. I stuck with plain old O.J.

We noticed two guys behind us constantly texting on their phones during their entire meal. Thelma made the joke that they were actually texting each other.

After the meal, I was dragged kicking taken to the Grove to watch Thelma shop for job promotion wardrobe and new sandals. If Thelma were a man, this would be a simple, painless procedure. This was definitely more like major surgery.

But I still had fun, partially passed out in a chair, watching the world go by. Watching the poor harried shoe salesman bring out shoe after shoe after g-damned shoe for Thelma?s bunion encrusted foot.

Romance!!!! Great service and good food!!

by hcbelladona

My sister in law Sonia told me about this restaurant. We drove from MIssion Viejo and the ambiance did not dissapoint. I had the Lychee Martini and my husband had beer. He enjoyed the scallops with tiger prawns, and I had the filet mignon. They were both healthy portions. OUr waitress was sweet and made suggestions throughout the night even on my next glass of wine which was a cabernet. It was romantic. We sat outside and enjoyed the pillowed seats. It was lovely. When we left we were thanked for coming and will go back again. The meal was a bit pricey for what we got. The creme brulee was fabulous everyone loves extra sugar on top!!

Pros: The lighting at night, the seating sooo comfortable

Cons: price

Fresh, tasty food, good service, and cozy, congenial atmosphere

by bethigger

Last night was our first time at Cliff's Edge; it has been recommended to us by several friends. My husband and I love to try new restaurants, especially in our new neighborhood. This one exceeded our expectations. We were seated at an indoor table, close to the bar area, which looks like a great place for just drinks. The room had low lighting, but you could still easily read menus without needing a flashlight. The "bench" seats along the walls have really comfortable, long pillows on them. Although the tables are somewhat close together, the acoustics were ideal -- the soft background music added a white-noise effect so you didn't feel like you were intruding on your table neighbors' conversations. The wait staff was very attentive. Our waiter brought bread, dipping oil and water as soon as we were seated and took our drink orders. While perusing the menu, another waitress came by and told us our waiter was also tending to a large group, so she could take our order if we were ready before the waiter returned. We started with an order of french fries and gorgonzola dipping sauce. The fries were thin, crisp, and lightly salted. The gorgonzola was a pleasant change from the typical ketchup. My husband ordered the pork loin medallions, which came with greens and some other vegetables. I ordered the halibut special, which was pan seared, and accompanied by broccolini and squash, and a lovely saffron sauce. The food was incredibly fresh, and the seasonings complemented the food, versus overwhelming it. The portions were perfect, and we each cleaned our plates and were comfortably full. We each had an after-dinner drink. The bill was $116, including an 18% tip, which by Los Angeles standards is a good value considering everything was top-notch. We look forward to go back again, and bringing friends and family when they visit us.

Except for the atmosphere, this place stinks....

by mrwinckler

First off, there is nothing "Italian" or "Mediterranean" about this place. Just because the menu has Pumpkin Ravioli doesn't make it Italian at all. The service was horrible, the food was so-so, and it was way over priced for the quality of the food. When I asked for some bread, they brought out toasted white bread. No joke! I guess they are trying to make some extra cash so they can afford a sign on the front of the restaurant. Or maybe they are banking that you will pay more because it's sooooo cool that they don't need a sign. Want good Italian? Go to Farfalla on Hillhurst. Less expensive and a hundred times better. Did I mention my wife and I both felt sick after the meal? We also saw the manager picking his nose by the front door... =( gross...

Pros: atmosphere

Cons: white bread toast, overpriced, service slow.

Abundance of Ambiance

by Shags13

Beautiful restaurant off the beaten path of Sunset. Interior garden setting very 'other-worldly". Attentive staff. Reasonably priced wine list with variety of choices. Healthy portions with the cheese plate appetizer. Would be 5 stars with slightly better entrees, but the feel of the restaurant makes up for the menu's slight shortcomings.

Pros: Interior Garden Setting

Cons: None To Speak Of

Rustic Romantic Ambience in Silver Lake

by singsang

My boyfriend just took me there for my birthday and I was completely surprised by the ambience. I didn't know there was such place like that in Silver Lake. We sat at the bar and had cocktails before we got seated at the patio, I also liked the inside but it seemed more romantic outside with the summertime weather. I love the the rustic of the outside and contemporiness of the inside. We loved the mussels appetizer but I think that could be a whole meal with a salad. I'm not a big steak person but I did enjoy it and my boyfriend devoured most of it along with the summer risotto speical. We tried to share a apple tartine dessert but was to full to really enjoy it. Service was very nice, even though we had reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes for our table. I guess it's not to bad for Saturday night. It just meant an extra cocktail.

Pros: Ambience, Food,Service

Cons: parking

Lovely outdoor ambience if you don't mind the staff's attitude and just-alright food

by AraL

The ONLY good thing this place has going is its outside decor........IF you can get a reservation there.....It's not that you can't get a reservation, it's just that this is one pretentious restaurant which will not "guaranty" a table outdoors even if you call well in advance. I live in Silver Lake and love so many of the restaurants there, but this one takes the cake for ATTITUDE in a bad way. The food is okay. If you want great Italian/Med food, however, go to Aroma up the street. Heck, you can go to El Caserio on Silver Lake Blvd. for a truly amazing Ecuadorian meal and great ambience. Or if you are going for that outdoor ambience, you cannot go wrong with Edendale Grill on Rowena. But if you want a rude maitre'd or a so-so staff with just-alright food, go to Cliff's Edge.

Cliffs Edge is great - just watch out for Akila!

by brrrrr

Everything about Cliffs Edge was great - except for the hostess. The decor, food, and service was wonderful. However, I have to say that the hostess' behavior almost derailed the entire evening for my girlfriend and I (the only thing that lowers the rating for the restaurant). Her name is Akila, and she had an attitude from the moment we walked up to her to say we had a reservation (which couldn't be found for about 5 minutes).

I have to say - I've never experienced the kind of sweet toxicity from a host as the kind we received from Akila. She was condescending - even responding to questions with an "AS I ALREADY STATED..." - and everything from her tone of voice to her body language let us know that she thought nothing of us. Even after she knew we were unhappy with her, she would say things like "have a great evening guys!" or "see you later!" in a sing-song voice to taunt us!

Maybe she was having a bad day, or Macy's stopped selling underwear with dickholes in them, but either way, it really doesn't excuse the kind of service we received from this woman.

As we were walking out, we stopped to talk to her manager. My girlfriend overheard Akila nearby saying "I don't give a s**t, I'm going home".

Akila - "she doesn't give a s**t"!

Cons: Akila - the hostess. She's evil.

Great Ambience, inside and out

by hassassin9

I had been recommended this place by a friend of mine, and was extremely satisfied with the level of service and quality of menu. There are appropriate and subtle deviations in food pairings, and the ambience was superb. Whether you sit on the inside (which we did) or outside, the lighting is very intimate and comfortable at the same time. The wines by the glass were not as impressive, but I would certainly suggest you try this place out. I will certainly be returning myself.

Pros: Ambience, privacy, menu

Romantic and yummy, best for impressing out-of-towners

by mixtape

This place is in my top fives of LA restaurants. Everytime I've been, with whoever I go with, everyone has an incredible time. Dinner on the porch is really romantic, it kinda evokes a southern plantation or tropical jungle feel...which is a funny combination but it is right on here. The waitstaff is pretty friendly, which is an anomaly in Silverlake. The food is mid-priced, with pastas and salads around $12-14, filet mignon about $25...what gets you is the drinks, but that's pricey anywhere. They make a mean steak, and their pumpkin ravioli is delish. Brunch on sundays is awesome, try the Cliff's french toast...wow. Take friends from out of town there, people are always amazed this sweet little place exists in the heart of LA. You will love this place.

Pros: wonderful food, great date spot, friendly staff, welcoming ambience

Cons: if only they were open Sunday nights!

Not a Lunch Place

Beautiful place in a nice location. Lovely garden, inside decor and bar. However, we went expecting a lunch menu and they really only had a brunch menu.

The food was good overall but if you're looking for a place to have a nice lunch, I wouldn't recommend.

What a beautiful restaurant! A great dining experience overall. Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent food, and an amazingly beautiful patio. Who knew a place could be this great and share a wall with the 99 cent store. Ha!!! My boyfriend and I will definitely be back. The mussels appetizer was very good and large portioned. We ordered the lamb and ribeye and were very impressed. Enjoy!

Pros: everything...candles, firepit, huge tree, food, wine, mojitos......

Love, Love, LOVE it.

by evbrunt

This is my absolute favorite place to bring out-of-towners or westsiders when I want to show them why I love living in Silver Lake so much. It's hard to fine, nothing to look at from the outside, but so beautiful and enchanting on the inside (or on the inside out, since the real draw here is the dining al fresco..you'll see what I mean when you get there). The food is very good. Something to write home about? Maybe not--but they use quality, fresh ingredients and the menu is solid with notes of brilliance (the greek salad is wonderful, the couscous and lamb...a near masterpiece on a crisp fall evening). The real reason to come however, and what I recommend: cuddle up with your honey, have some close friends tag along, install yourselves in the comfy benchseats around long tables, enjoy the night air, sip some good wine and forget that you are anywhere else but in good company....

Pros: Ambiance, Ambiance, Ambiance

Cons: Service spotty but still worth it

I have been here 2x now for a friend's b-day party and for my own b-day party and both experiences were great. The food is delicious and on my b-day I had the rib eye steak and I had no complaints about it. This is coming from a guy who knows something about good steaks. The service was friendly and accommodating. It's a cozy place and it's nice to sit outside. I highly recommend this place.

Average at Best.

by maf1

Not sure if I would ever return to this restaurant. The waitress was a snotty little wanna be actress, and quite rude.
Although we had a reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes. We were a table of four, when entrees arrived, they only brought three, leaving one of our table to sit for ten minutes waiting for the entree. The entree finally arrived and was luke warm at best. It had probably sat in the kitchen for those ten minutes. Could not find our waitress to return the entree and have it reheated.
Finally a busboy strolled by and we promptly asked him to have the entree reheated. By the time the entree returned to the table the other three guests were finished eating.
Our waitress never returned to see how we were doing, and it was a stuggle to get another drink or glass of water.
The reheated entree, was bland at best. The chef over cooked the entire dish and obviously has an issue with using salt, pepper, fresh herbs etc. They did not exist in the dish. The other guests entrees were average at best. Ravioli - Bland and rubbery, Risotto-stodgy and over-cooked. Leek & Tarragon Tart-All you could taste was the tarragon. It was basically a tarragon quiche. Although the pastry shell was terrific. Cocktails-great.
But I think the biggest problem this restaurant suffers from is the crowds of smokers on the enclosed patio. Our table was surrounded by three tables all of which were smokers. Absolutely disgusting. Why oh why do they allow the smokers to ruin the alfresco dining experience for everyone else. Afterall this is California, one would like to enjoy the out-doors dining as much as possible.
They need to have one area for smokers and another for non smokers. Or ban smoking altogether from restaurant patios, just like in parts of Europe. On second thought, I will not be back. A great shame, because it has great potential.

Pros: Nice patio.

Cons: A lot of smokers on the patio.

Excellent Food in Garden Patio

by tglee30

My wife and I had dinner here on a early Saturday evening. It is recommended to make reservations. Food was excellent. I had the morroccan style lamb stew and she had the rib eye. Both were excellent choices. We also ordered the pumpkin ravioli and a side of french fries for sides/appetizers. Kind of pricey for budget minded people but well worth the price for at least the two dishes we had. We are definitely going to try this place again....

Pros: Great food.....Service was pretty good.

Cons: Valet Parking is 5 dollars....find street parking if available.

Funny Thing..I witnessed an incident..

by bigbellyboy

This is so funny...I actually witnessed the guy who got tossed out of Cliff's Saturday night. He was starting a scene and rude rude rude. He needed to go wait in line at Pinks on LaBrea with his folks. No joke. It was our first time there and for a slamed Saturday evening the service was spot on and seating was as prompt as could be on a Saturday evening at a hot spot. I had the Rib Eye with green peppercorn sauce. I have thinking about it ever since. I WILL be back as long as that dude stays on the westside. LOL

Pros: Great Bistro Food

Cons: Weak Drinks

Good food and very nice atmosphere in the garden patio

by doubledeeinla

We went with a group of 5 on Wednesday night and had a great time. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. We had reservations and were seated almost immediately. Everyone enjoyed the food and our waiter was very competent and made some good suggestions. The only negative was the host at the door. He was distracted and didn't greet us. I think the problem is the location of the host station. It is not immediately inside the door. You have to cross over to the other side and then stand waiting in the flow of traffic of waiters coming and going from the kitchen. They should relocate the host stand and people would get a much better impression. Overall, it was very pleasant and we will return.

Pros: food and atmosphere

Cons: host and his location

Enjoyed a lovely eveving, good food, wine, atmosphere. We were tired of going to the usual stuffy BH, Weho, Westwood restaurants where the food is heavy and rich. I am delighted to have found a place where I am comfortable and can enjoy a light and well cooked meal. Thank you for getting it right!

Pros: Food, Wine list, setting, service

Cons: not cheap

Eh. I'd go back, but I'll be a far more demanding patron.

by threreed

The atmosphere is good, the food is good. The service is spotty. When I first got there to meet my group, I stood for several minutes waiting to be noticed; finally, the manager shouted halfway across the restaurant, "Can I help you?" I don't shout across restaurants, so after I answered him (in a louder voice than I am accustomed to using in public, but still not shouting) instead of coming toward me, he leaned over with his hand by his ear and said, "What?" I was not escorted to the table, it was gestured toward. "They're up there."

The food is quite nice. Everyone enjoyed theirs. The only complaint is that they astonishingly charge for refills on iced tea and sodas. Since I don't drink these, it didn't affect me, but at $10 each, I think those who order such items should know that they will be charged another $10 for a refill.

The busboys removed my bread plate while I still had a piece of bread in my hand, but that over-eager type of plate-clearing is becoming endemic in all restaurants. The waiters clearly have better things to do than provide service, although when we did attract the attention of our waiter, he was responsive.

Pros: Pretty.

Cons: No parking. Best to valet.

wow. um no wonder they are not that busy anymore...

by diabla1713

let me first say how much i used to be obsessed with cliffs edge. i am not a huge repeat restaurant goer, but when it comes to this place, there was never a question....until tuesday night... the host is always great. he seems to care about the customers and the restaurant. the waitress and bartender are another story. let me also say that i have been in the upper scale restaurant business for 4 years on the floor and behind the scene.
our waitress, if she ever did put on a smirk, was so unpleasant and seemed to be in pain if she showed any bit of kindness. she rarely checked on us and left us for dead at the end of the meal. she gave attitude when i wanted to suprise a guest with a peice of birthday cake (was not asking for free dessert). the bartender with her lack luster attitude was not busy but it would have been easier for her to be so she could ignore us more. let me say one more time...i am in the industry, in a very very trendy busy upscale spot...i get it...i do... but my friends and i were baffled at how it is not as busy as it used to be and how underwhelming the staff is.
sad sad sad... such an amazing space with nice food....

Pros: beautiful space and pretty good food

Cons: service service service and same specials last 4 times we have been there.

Nice, romantic, service okay less the snooty waiter!

by downwla

The first time i ate there, it was a pleasant experience-food yummy, service great, atmosphere very warm.
But me and my boyfriend went there for Valentine's and were extremely turned off by the initial service. We were seated. Waiter greeted us, took our order and he never came back to our table again! To my dismay my boyfriend and I noticed that we were the only couple there that were being ignored...literally! We sat there patiently waiting for our Ice teas to be refilled and to request more bread and still no service. So i decided to put my foot down when the neglegent un-attentive waiter asked the table right next to us if they everything was ok, glanced at us and went right on to the next table and asked if they needed anything! Deliberately skipping us! I was offended! Despite us looking uneasy and anxious (on purpose) waiter continued to ignore us! I then decided not to make a big deal of the sour conclusion me and boyfriend had made of the snooty waiter and simply gestured to what seemed to be a mngr. and politely asked "Can we please have another waiter", and with no hesitation he replied " Sure no problem". We then got a pleasant new waitress who was warm and amiable attention we appreciated. So i wouldn't knock this restaraunt as whole but as polite as everyone else was this particular waiter surley didn't fit with the nice setting! Note to owner: Toss the moldy apple! No use in having it with the rest of the apples.

Pros: Ambience was pleasant, food was good, valet guys were nice too.

Cons: Snooty waiter!

If it's charm with out the added expense of pretense

by knapjongen

I consider this a nice date place, but works well with a group of people as well. Well it's just a nice place in general and it's hidden like you wouldn't believe. Good, not great food, but the atmosphere more than makes up for what it lacks in essence. Fabulous Zin for a fair price, paid a smidgen under $200 for 4 people, including the wine. It's a diamond in the ruff, a jewel amongst swine, it's rather fetching, no charming. If it's charm you want, well then this is the place.

Hideaway on the Sunset Strip

by vvflores

Many places can claim to be hidden gems within this concrete jungle, but Cliff's Edge really is one. Nestled into a tiny corner next to the 99 cent store, it is easily passed on the way to Hollywood but should not be overlooked. Great food, even better ambience, and fairly knowledgeable waitstaff: ask them what's good that night, they should be able to give you a straight answer. I've gone to birthdays and romantic dinners here, and it is always a great place to eat. Not a huge fan of a lot of their red meat dishes, but their fish is always fabulous. You can also bring your own wine for a corkage fee of $15-20 (not sure if it's gone up) to make your dinner a bit more economical. Make reservations though- as more people find out about this place, the wait lines will only get longer.

Pros: atmosphere, atmosphere, food

Cons: slowish service, not always friendly waitstaff, a little pricey

RUDE, So So FOOD puts me in Bad MOOD

by laca

I hear so many stories about not getting greeted and seated. Same thing happened to me. I had to get the attention of someone in the kitchen to find someone to seat us...the bartenders seemed to ignore us and waiters seemed annoyed that the "would be" customers were roaming the restaurant trying to find assistance. They would rudely say, "EXCUSE ME" if we didn't completely clear out of their way.

Food choices were so so...food tasted good but not worth all the trouble...and they seem to think sitting on their patio is some huge favor to Silverlake. Pass!

Great Ambiance- secret in the heart of Silver Lake

by liae

I've been to this restaurant twice now, and both times have come away loving my experience. I would say to sit outside in the dimly lit, romantic, but also lively patio. This tucked away restaurant makes you feel like you're not on Sunset, and not in the heart of Silver Lake. The service is good, allowing people to sit and talk, and not coming to the table every five mintues. And the prices are decent. I would rate this restaurant highly, and would suggest going there for any occasion.

Moderate food no customer service

by wildflowerfmm

My friends and I went right after work for drinks and an early dinner. The hostess was moderatly nice and server seemed to rush us for our order when there was only two couples dining in the patio. He was not friendly, seemed the bussers were more attentive to us rather than our server. He seemed bored at his job never asked how were we doing just no customer service. The patio is nice but that is it. The food was ok, not great but alright. I would not recommend this place because I would be afraid my friends would get the same dining experience we did. As a concierge for a very reputable hotel this is definitely a place I would not recommend. There is more to creating a dinning experience then a very well lit patio.

Pros: The patio and the attentive bussers.

Cons: The lack of customer service. Hire servers that like their job.

Definitely a miss!

by uma_viajante

My husband and I decided to have our Anniversary dinner here on the recommendation of a friend because of the romantic atmosphere. What a mistake! Romantic atmosphere, yes, but that was the only thing the restaurant had going for it! Upon arrival, while waiting at the host stand, many workers looked over at us, but no one came to greet or seat us for far too long. As it turned out, the host was the only friendly person we encountered while at the restaurant. He was pleasant, congratulated us on our anniversary, and led us to a nice table. When seated, I am not kidding when I say we waited almost 10 minutes for a server to greet us and take a drink order. And there were only 3 other tables seated! At that point I noticed a pretty blonde server flirting with 2 men at a two-top, obviously too busy to take a drink order! The Bellini's we finally ordered turned out not to be made with peach nectar, but with Peach Schnapp's - a disappointment. Another server came to give us menus. I have never witnessed a more vacant and bored person working in a restaurant with a 9.1 rating. She appeared put out and a little confused when I asked if she could please re-lite the candle on our table. My husband and I ordered the Spicy Tuna with Mango (not spicy, way too sweet); the Pumpkin Ravioli (dead little disks filled with a smattering of pumpkin) and the Saffron Risotto with Shrimp (simply ok). No one other than the host ever mentioned our anniversary or made us feel in any way special, even though we chose to have a very special dinner at their restaurant. Cliff's Edge was, sadly, a big disappointement all around.

Pros: Romantic garden setting

Cons: uninspired food; very poor service

Beautiful food

by typingwithmymouthfull

Our server was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious and presented very nicely. The patio, with the large tree in the middle, provided a nice atmosphere. It was nice to find this place tucked in a back corner. My only complaint would be that the restaurant's phone kept ringing, a very loud and annoying ring. Other than that, the great food, great wine, good service, and nice atmosphere justified the price.

Pros: beautifully presentation on food

Cons: annoying phone

Good but not great

by 7514

Food was good, maybe a little above average, but far from great-especially at prices. I actually had decent service. Not impressed with the wine list. Atmosphere is very nice, I would consider going back to give a second chance.

Pros: Great atmosphere, great patio

Cons: food not on par with pricing

The risotto is worth the trouble

by niftee01

The Bad: OK, so next door to the 99 Cent Store isn't the best location in the world, but once you navigate Sunset Blvd., spot the joint [just looks like a parking lot covered by some trees] and make a few U-turns to park, you wouldn't even notice the proximity. I arrived and had to hunt down a hostess to find our reservation and seat us, but the night was smooth sailing from then on.

The Good: Definitely eat on the patio, which is tree-covered, surprisingly cloistered from the whizzing of cars down Sunset, and tropical-beautiful-romantic all rolled into one. Take the wine recommendations -- there's a long list. I had the broccolini to start and the shrimp risotto. Both were absolutely amazing. I've ordered similar risottos at top restaurants in L.A. in the past few months trying to recreate just how flavorful and full-bodied Cliff's Edge's was...but no luck. I'm still drooling just thinking about it. Can't wait to go back!

Below Average food

by patty518

As soon as you enter Cliff's edge, you feel like you've stepped into a tropical island. The decor is beautiful and the center tree is a great centerpiece that ties it all together. The service is impeccable, the drinks are great. The only drawback to the place is the food. It is quite awful! Overly condimented, overly cooked. I tried my boyfriend's dish and it was just as bad. We did not order from their specials menu, but from the everyday menu, too! As wonderful as everything else is about the restaurant, I don't think I will ever be going back.

Pros: the drinks, service, decor

Cons: the food

East Village to Silverlake

by iluvny76

After recently moving from Manhattan's "East Village" to L.A.'s "Silverlake" I was very happy to discover this place, and when I mean discover I really mean discover, there is no sign what so ever, to clue you in on whats inside; A very laid back upscale dining spot "Eurostyle" . The food was great, the drinks were great ( had a Mojito ), the service was great, and the managment & waitstaff is so very friendly!(remember your in Silverlake not Beverly Hills) Make sure you sit in the garden, it's like dining on a tropical island. The bar is also a nice peaceful place to have cocktails if you've already had dinner.I really thought that I would never find anything this cool outside of NYC . This place will be a great summer hangout for me and my friends.

Pros: good food, good drinks, good sevice

Cons: valet only, very busy, closes at 11:30

eat before you go

by mentalgraft

it's a beautiful place with a fancy menu. I and my date had the nut-encrusted goat cheese salad, crab cakes, and the filet mignon and scallops as entrees. i lovd the salad. The crab cakes were bland, I've never had overdone scallops before, but this was my first. and the filet was so-so. My guess that they were breaking in a new waiter, not sure. The best thing was sitting outside, under a massive tree, candle-lit surrounded by bamboo, waiting for the food, too bad the food wasn't up to snuff.

Pros: ambiance

Cons: slow service, mediocre food

not for birthdays

by sweetpranch

we celebrated our friend's birthday at cliff's edge - 12 of us in all.
we had a great time, great food and drinks. the place is just gorgeous.
i highly recommend sitting in the outside patio when it's warm out.
we brought our own homemade birthday cake for our friend and dropped it off earlier in the day. when the bill came we were all surprised the the "cake fee" of $5 per person. call me ignorant but i have never heard of such a thing. considering our bill was well over $800 they would not even budge on the fee. i complain about this only because we were never told in advance about such a stupid charge. i will eat there again but would rather celebrate a birthday else where.

Our new Romantic Go To

by stacy1259

Found this restaurant on Citysearch awhile back. It has become our hideaway restaurant that we love sharing with other people. Has an amazing outside seating area and the inside is very nice as well. Bar is working on getting a full license (as of VDay). You know how to eat if you go to the bar, but thats not hard to do. Food has always been amazing. This is a great place for Sunday brunch..great menu, great specials and very good Bloody Mary's. :)
This place is attached to a 99c store and looks like a grey plain building on the outside. However, when you step into the back you completely forget that you are in Silverlake off of Sunset! They have valet and it usually is a must since street parking is very hard to find nearby.

Pros: Ambience, Food, Pricing

Cons: Slow Service, Parking

Great Friendly Place

by bellastanza

Its nice to find a laid back friendly place in Silerlake to hang out at, where the food is good the drinks are strong, and the service is unpretentious. I took my wife here on Valentines Day and had the best dinner ever! I highly recommend this place to anyone not caught up in being "cooler than thou" but rather just looking for good food & a friendly atmosphere.

Pros: Food, Friendly, Wine List

Cons: Parking, Busy

I give it six months

by lpyoung4

The half baked design aside, the food was mediocre at best, but at should-have-been-outstanding prices. The waiter seemed eager to get us to order our drinks and food in five minutes (he came back three times), but once the food was served we never saw him again. On our way out a gaggle of waiters were standing around a drinks station chatting and they couldn't be bothered to even say thanks or goodbye. Very strange exprience. I give this place six-nine months tops before it's reconfigured or closed.

Cons: Bad Service, Bad Food, High Prices
