4 Stars: A Model Train Lovers Paradise (by Susan M.)

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is a great place to visit if you like model trains, trains, or the history of trains. While you wont learn a whole lot about how trains operate, or their history, many of the tracks that the models run on represent actual train lines in the United States. This is a great place to just walk around, and look at all of the trains. Who isnt fascinated by model trains going around the tracks? The model train enthusiasts who put the tracks in this museum together did a wonderful job of making the tracks look realistic. While this museum doesnt have a cafeteria of any kind, it does offer snack machines if you absolutely must have a bite to eat.

5 Stars: Spend hours here (by Margaret D.)

You can easily spend hours here with your little train enthusiast, or your big one, gazing at all the displays they've got. They replicate actual railroad lines and display several different model sizes. There's also a Thomas room and snack machines.

4 Stars: Small (by Ginger S.)

This is a small museum, but really it's interesting to see all the working models. The people who've put together all the trains really are passionate about their work, and it's quite evident when you visit this museum. It's just amazing to see the detail and precision on something so small!

3 Stars: Decent (by Jerry W.)

This is a decent museum, it's not huge or anything though. It is a good place to also stop by if you are already in Balboa Park. It's mainly really great because you learn a lot of small trivia and interesting facts that you didn't know before about San Diego and railroads in general.

2 Stars: Model Trains (by Karrie F.)

This museum is more like an amusement park for men who like model trains. It consists of a large space with tracks, scenery and model trains driving around. You follow a walkway that weaves you through the tracks where you can watch the little trains in action. This is not a museum that teaches you anything at all about the railroads or their history. It simply allows you watch trains move around the room. This is not how I would define a museum.
