We have a nice Kohler faucet set in our master bathroom. It was leaking a little bit around the handle. We called Dave Blair Plumbing of Culver City, California to fix it.

He sent his guys. His guys couldn??t figure out how to get the handle off the hot water lever on our faucet. They are not standard faucets and the plumber needs to know how to do the work or needs to take the time to figure it out from information readily available from Kohler.

But the Blair plumbers couldn??t figure it out and didn??t bother to seek assistance. Finally, they took a pair of pliers to our beautiful faucet handle. Of course, they damaged the handle in removing it. It had two big indentations right on top of the handle and looked terrible.

Before we knew about the damage, on the same trip, we had asked Blair??s guys to replace the cartridge in our Insinkerator HC1100SN kitchen insta-hot hot water heater. The thing was working fine, but you are supposed to replace the cartridges every so often. We figured the Blair guys were there anyway and we would rather have pros do it than us. We??d pay for it, but would feel better about it that way.

So his guys replaced the cartridge. Of course, as soon as they turned the water back on, the system sprang a leak.

Not only did it spring a leak, but they left our house and allowed the leak to do damage to the kitchen cabinets.

So now, thanks to Dave Blair plumbing, we had three NEW problems, much worse than the old ones!

For the bathroom sink, they acknowledged responsibility once Dave Blair came and saw the damage to the handle that they had worked on, but they had to order a replacement handle, which took months to come in.

In the meantime, we had to deal with the kitchen. They admitted responsibility for the damage to the cabinets and eventually provided us with some replacement wood pieces, but they denied responsibility for the problems with the insta-hot water heater. We couldn??t prove for sure that it as their error, although we figured that it was.

So we spent over $500 first replacing the tank and then replacing the faucet (sometimes called a dispenser) before we finally got the insta-hot working again after months without the system, which made my wife very unhappy.

As to the bathroom faucet, the replacement part for the faucet finally came in after months.

But the Blair folks delayed and delayed on doing the work and I called repeatedly and politely asked when they could do they work. They put me off again and again and again, with stories of family illnesses and being too busy and other stories.

Finally, I called for what must have been the 50th times and Blair told me why they were really putting me off. They wanted to charge me for coming out to fix the handle that they had busted and they were afraid that I wouldn??t want to pay for it.

I reluctantly agreed to pay for the visit -- and I did pay them for the trip as I had promised I would.

Blair sent his son, Kenny, to put the replacement handle on the faucet. Kenny finally figured out how to get the faucet back on, but in the process, he damaged the valve inside the faucet.

As I said, we paid him for the visit, even though it was to repair the damage they had done and even though he did more damage on his visit.

So now we had yet another NEW problem.

We got a new valve set from Kohler and called Blair up and asked them to come and fix the valve that Kenny had broken.

David Blair refused unless we paid them again for a visit.

We??re planning to pursue this in court.

Do NOT use these guys. They provide terribly slow service, their people don??t know how to do things that a plumber should know how to do, and they were never at our house without breaking at least one thing and sometimes two or three.

This is the indoor plumbing contractor that my landlord has engaged. Because I live in an apartment with ancient pipes, it seems like they're around an awful lot. They come very quickly when called, and I don't think I've ever known them to come more than 20 minutes late. The two employees that I've had contact with are friendly and respectful, and they have saved me a lost security deposit more than once. Since I don't actually pay them, I can't speak about price, but they do a reliable job.
