The food is some of the best peruvian that i've found. I found better versions of some of their dishes, but I've never seen a place that overall compares to this place. My only issue is the parking. If you are limited on time, try to

This is one of my favorite restaurants i like to come the Lomo Saltado is to die for. The only thing im not to crazy about is the Chica morada, but I just have a nice cold coke and I am good!

I never leave unsatisfied from here. I was nervous when i noticed that there's new people behind the counter, but the food is still awesome. I encourage you to try all of the "saltado" dishes.

My son and I love Mario's Saltado de Pollo. It's delicious!! I give this place 4 stars because the food is really yummy however, even though I have never sat down and eaten there, I can see what the "bad service" many are referring to

Would have 5 stars but the environment is much less than perfect.

Yet, one for quality, they never disappoint.

The food is heavy, so don't expect the light in calorie or CA typical....it ain't AND it's worth the splurge a couple times a year.

GOOOOOD EATING!

Can take your own beverages, aka alcohol, if you so desire, no cork fees. Good to know, right?

So far I have been to this place two times and my experience with the food has been really good. I usually get the seafood saltado. But on the other hand, the only one complaint I have is the bad service. The second time I went there, the waitress had more preference over these other people who were already there by constantly asking if their meal was ok and if they need anything and as for us she didn't care to stop and ask if things were cool until we were finished. The first time i went there, another waitress had an attitude problem. But so far so good =)

This is a great place to go to if you haven't tried Peruvian food yet. The place is always crowded at night, which is apparent of the good food they serve.

Must highly recommend the Steak Saltado. I dip the bread they give you in the spicy green sauce...very addictive. A must if you're in LA.

Before eating here I had never tried Peruvian food, but ever since i first came here, i've been eating Mario's at least once a week. With an array of choices, you can't go wrong with their saltado (a dish that has meat mixed with sauteed onions and tomatoes, french fries and rice). I get their shrimp version everytime, but the beef and chicken are good too. Their dish called Jalea (a potluck of different fried seafood topped with lime juice and a salad mix) is awesome as well and a great alternative. I've come here so often that they have started to recognize me. All the waitresses are great.

This place is soo popular that on weekend nights the line is out the door. I suggest calling in and picking it up.

They have the best Peruvian Food by far. It's a hole in a wall type of joint. It's like a little canteen that serves the yummy-est food! I never really ate there since its tiny, but always got my food to go. If you are high maintenance, then that's the way to go. Parking is a headache when they're busy, but it's worth the trouble and wait.

Want something different but fulfilling for lunch....this is the place. Food is fantastic, but the parking lot is small and there are always long lines. Getting food to go is usually the best bet, because as you can imagine, there aren't enough tables for everyone.

Very filling portions! Enjoy.

I've only gone to Mario's once, but I just can't stop talking about it. Great taste, huge servings at a very reasonable price. Their fries are delicious. I highly recommend the ceviche, which has boiled eggs and gives it a unique taste. I parked a couple of blocks away and then walked there. The parking is horrible, and the decoration is very poor. But if you're looking for good food and nothing more. This is it. It only took one time, and Mario's became one of my favorite restaurants in LA.

Don't be discouraged by the low-key setting, this restaurant seemed to be one of L.A.'s biggest Peruvian foodie havens. People came from far and away to wait in line for half an hour just to sit at one of the basic tables and devour the Saltado dishes (seafood, chicken and or beef). Since the presentation of this popular dish didn't appeal to me personally, I opted for the steamed red snapper in wine sauce, and by golly, it was DELICIOUS. I am so exicted i couldn't finish the huge dish, so that I can enjoy some more of it tomorrow.

I love this place! It is the most delicious comfort food out in all of LA. I have read the review about how the service is bad, they are just really busy and still deliver your food in record time. It has always been delicious and consistent. If you haven't gone you must go!!!

You know how ppl say "Wow, this is the BEST place ever," and it is truly average or worse.....Well, that is not Mario's. They have the BEST food ever, coupled with average service, bland ambience, and average prices. Yet the food is so delicious that the cons are overlooked in my book.

If you like beef order the: LOMO MONTADO
If you like seafood order the: PINCANTE DE MARISCOS.
Yum.Happy eating and enjoy!

like everybody here had mentioned. parking and the wait is a task. so i always call in for pick up since i work close by.

If you are looking for top-notch parking, this certainly isn't the place. The parking outside is a mess, with cars often times blocking entrances, parked here and there, and a general lack of space. If you're looking for a place with fabulous seating and decor, again, this isn't the place. The tables aren't gorgeous and the walls have framed articles and the like.

However, if you can somehow find the ability, and I say this sarcastically, to look past those two minor issues, this restaurant is excellent. Personally, when I dine, I do not judge the experience on whether someone was there to park my car quickly or act like a cheery, bubbly host. That being said, I judge strictly by the quality of food. By that standard, Mario's is simply a restaurant of great Peruvian food. I am particularly fond of the seafood which has a smell throughout the restaurant (take out as well) that leaves you eager to eat it. The quality is certainly among the best and that?s not even mentioning that the portion is huge. I often find myself stuffing the end because I simply can't stop or taking the rest home.

Furthermore, for a portion of that size and a quality that rich, the price is certainly more than reasonable. It?s reasonable for even a restaurant with the bare minimum quality of food. Thus, to put it bluntly, there are two ways you can look at this place. If you see your eating experience as one determined solely by convenience and ease, this is not the place. However, if you love great food (please ignore the random comments from people who claim to get sick after eating there, as I have been there a good 15 times and have never been ill afterwards) this is the place in Los Angeles to go.

Don't take my word though. Try it for yourself. Just be sure to plan ahead and allot for some time, as parking, as many have pointed out, is their weak spot. However, the food is fantastic and a must try for anyone, especially rice and seafood lovers.

The Lomo Saltado is fantastic! Everything we have tried so far, has been good. The prices are comparable to other Peruvian restaurants and is reasonable. However, this restaurant is at a horrible location. There is not enough seating, and the parking situation is even worse. Phone in the order and pick it up if you don't want to wait forever.

We got there at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a half-an-hour wait. I am non-peruvian, and have only tried a few other peruvian restaurants, but I have to say their food is way overrated. No ambiance whatsoever, and got sick after eating their food. I seriously think they mess with your food if they don't like you. Will not be going back for sure.

We have lived by this restaurant for years and have always noticed a line outside so we gave it a shot. A group of us were waiting outside the restaurant in the parking lot waiting for the restaurant to open. It opened 15 minutes late and once the doors were open it was like a herd of cattle rushing to get in and fight for a nasty table. Weird. The inside is cafeteria style. Very plain and ordinary. B/c of reading one review which said it was BYOB, we picked up a bottle of wine from the liquor store. The waitress poured it in water glasses, yuk and every one stared as most of them were drinking tap water. The people who go here are very hungry and want large portions for cheap which is fine but the food, service and decor. was seriously lacking. The parking was horrible. Will never ever go here again but they probably do not care as it looks as though business is booming. Definitely over rated.

Delicious and worth craving for. This restaurant has a very eclectic and very enticing menu. The atmosphere has a small mom and pops restaurant feel. As you are seated you will be served with homemade bread, watch how much you eat because the main dishes are worth saving your hunger for. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have been here numerous times and have yet to be disappointed. I love their Saltado de Mariscos, very fresh with lots of great flavor and generous, although I rarely deviate from this choice. For the price, you get more than you pay for, and it is great food. Don't expect fine dining here, you'll be sorely disappointed. This restaurant is always busy with a very eclectic mix of customers, closes quite early, and waiting can be a chore, but as long as you anticipate a reasonable wait mid-evening, then you should be OK. I'd recommend going here very early evening and mid-week - it's just easier to get seated and also for parking - the parking is hideous. In my experience the service has always been reasonable and friendly. It's a good place for "family" meals in the late afternoon too. In my opinion, I highly recommend this place.

Unless you like bad service and overpriced food do not go here. Being Peruvian, many people have recommended Mario's so I decided to give it a shot. First of all, the neighborhood is awful and the parking situation is worse. Once seated the waitress literally threw the silverware and placemats at me and her voice tone was nothing but short and rude. I never complain at restaurants but between her attitude and tone of voice I just could not just sit there. I requested to speak to the manager only to have him shrug off her improper behavior. Food portions looked decent but their prices were $8 and up and I just feel this is too pricey for such a dive of a restaurant.

Menu is numbered so we told the waitress the number next to the dish we wanted and pointed them out. We order a shrimp ceviche, some lady brought us out fish ceviche. We were all starving by this time, and didnt even notice it was the wrong order. We ate like half of it and a different lady brings out our shrimp ceviche, we were all um whats this we are eating? She starts to give us attitude and get mad at us for not knowing that we got the wrong dish. She goes off and says how can you NOT know it wasnt shrimp?? hell we didnt care that we got the wrong dish, we didnt get mad or anything, it was damn good. She keeps this up for the entire night, we ask for more bread she rolls her eyes says something and never comes back.

I'm peruvian so I know about peruvian food and this place has the best peruvian food I've found in LA. I recommend the lomo saltado, you'll see it's the most popular dish. The place is not fancy as the Pollo Inka, but it's much better. And if it's a weekend you will have to wait a little bit to get a table. However, the wait is worth it.

I had had Peruvian food once before and it was so-so (overcooked, not very flavorful). But then a friend took me to Mario's and it knocked my socks off! I recommend it to all my friends. Be ready to park a little ways a way and walk, and be ready to wait outside for a table. Trust me -- it's worth it. Lomo saltado = scrumptious. Love the ceviche too. You'd be foolish to skip a visit to Mario's.

This place is amazing on FOOD!!! The wait is long, and there is not a comfie lounge chair to wait on but if you love food it's the place to be! Bring your own wine/beer stash at no extra charge....bring it on in they even have a cork screw! It's casual and not very cute. So, if you're all about the "LA" scene (like not eating) and the posh & pompous vibe of what's in then this is not the place for you. Dress down and be ready to EAT!

Hands down the best Peruvian food in the city. Don't let the location (stip mall) or the decor (cheesy) deter you. This place has the goods! The Saltado is juicy, flavorful, and served in hearty portions. Weekends are crowded, so are weekdays for that matter so be prepred to wait. Trust me though, its worth it!

The two dishes I sampled here were both incredible!! I *love* squid, and the mariscos saltado offered the tenderest example of squid I have EVER tried. The dish was wonderfully unusual, too! It's mixture of grilled seafood, grill onions and tomatoes, and grilled french fries all mixed up together proved to be a winning combination. As a perfect complement to that rich and heavy dish, we tried the wonderfully light and fresh and bursting-with-flavor pescado suldado. It was perhaps even better than the much-touted mariscos saltado! It was a steamed fillet of fish covered with finely chopped tomatoes in a lovely light wine sauce that didn't compete with or overpower the fresh fish flavor, but just enhanced it. The food here was truly a delight. It was definitely worth every minute of the 45 minute wait we had to endure...

Cons: Long wait, Zero Atmosphere

The decor may be ugly and the line may be long, but it's totally worth it because Mario's makes delicious food. The shrimp saltado is my favorite--filling and flavorful--but there are many great dishes on the menu. Basically, any place that uses french fries as an ingredient is fine by me. I highly reccomend Mario's.

Pros: Inexpensive, Large portions

Cons: Long wait

The saltado is awesome. Whenever I have friends come in from out of town I bring them here. Good Peruvian food is hard to find. I don't recommend the fried chicken legs, though. Expect to wait a good half hour to get seated if you're going at night during the weekend.

The food was excellent, however, you have to wait at least 15-20 minutes on an average weekday or weekend night. Staff is very friendly and the dishes are more than sufficient to fill you up. I highly recommend the Flan for dessert and the Saltado de Pollo for main course. The inka cola is not really as good as the Tamarindo. This isn't a romantic place, just the food is a total killer!

The best food ever. I no longer live in LA and I stilll dream of Mario's Peruvian. The ambiance is relative to the price, and has its own charm. Someone has to build a Mario's Peruvian here in New York!

Though the place requires long wait on weekends and it doesn't feel too clean, the food here is better than any other peruvian restaurants in LA. Try the ceviche de pescado for appetizer, lomo saltado or saltado de pollo as entree, and a can of inka cola (tastes like bubble gum). Once you have their food, you won't even remember about the long wait.

The carne saltado is delicious. The pollo saltado is fabulous. The seafood is scrumptious. Try the soda--it tastes like star fruit. The people at Mario's create this ambiance of home. Just thinking about Mario's makes my mouth water. No joke. I take everyone from LA and visitors to LA to this restaurant before any other.

It doesn't hurt that a friend of a friend owns this joint. It's like family.

When Pizarro landed in Peru in the sixteenth century looking for gold, he found potatoes instead. This plain, brightly lit restaurant has elevated the Inca staple in dishes like huanacaina (egg and potato salad), but Mario's is really…
