They add a healthcare surcharge onto your bill along with a note saying that they are proud to provide healthcare to their workers. I think that's great. I think everyone should have health coverage. What they don't tell you is that they are actually suing the city over it's new universal healthcare program. I hate to think that they are using my money to take away people's health care .

Hands down the best burger in San Francisco...tried the turkey sandwich, but just go for the burger, period. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Street parking available, bus service nearby, casual dining, best burger in San Francisco

Cons: No reservation policy

.

Yes, Slow Club has good comfort food - turkey sausage hash for breakfast and hamburger for lunch. However, be prepared to tolerate poor service from the host and waitstaff.

Case in point: The host will take your name but only call it once inside the restaurant before moving on to the next party. I had advised her that we were waiting outside as the waitlist crowd had spilled from inside to the sidewalk outside. Therefore, several parties, who chose to wait inside, jumped the queue ahead of those waiting outside. When this issue was raised, the host was dismissive. Upon being seated, be prepared for slow service. The waitstaff is stretched thin so they don't come by as often to refill drinks, etc.

Go for the food, not the service.

I recommend the turkey sausage hash, but everything on the menu is familiar and tasty. Moderately priced, always a place to park, and almost never a line. How many other breakfast spots in SF can you say that about?

I was there for brunch one day. The salad was excellent, loved it. Other than that, food overall was ok. Did not impress me much.

I've been to that place 3 times, each time for brunch. I like the decor, the ambience, the food. I've tried many things with friends, all tasty; but my favorite is the hamburger. I crave for hamburger on week-ends and that one is good, fries are crunchy. Ceasar salad is recommended too, i always asked for the sauce on the side because they put a lot of sauce.

This is a very, very good restaurant. But an even better bar - perhaps too small, but friendly, cool, excellent service, and great people. Torre is the best bartender in San Francisco!

i love the slow club, the food is fresh and flavorful. it is the one resturant where i feel like it belongs in nyc. it is in an rather quiet industiral area, and when you enter the place, it is just hopping. i go for the food and the great drinks, they make good stiff cocktails and my favorite is the margarita, i think they make the best in town. fresh squeeze lime and no mix. try this place you will feel like you are in another city.

The food and service completely exceeded my expectations. The cocktails were deeelicious, and food was perfect. Okay, the homemade fettucine was a bit lacking; they didn't use enough eggs in the pasta and not nearly enough sauce/oil so all the noodles were really doughy and stuck together in one big knot. But the burger was outstanding, perfect fries, and I highly recommend the flat bread. Service was friendly and attentive, and I saw nothing but happy customers eating all around us. Highly recommend, very good value, tasty, friendly!

Solid, consistent and creative menu that doesn't dissappoint...With a menu that changes daily you can count on some sort of rockin' pasta, a fish or two, a chicken dish and usually a steak, pork or lamb concoction. In recent visits I've had an awesome pork loin on a fenel rissotto and a golden crispy skinned chicken on top of the most insane gorgonzola red wine rissotto which I'd go back for in a heartbeat...I even check the menu online as it seems updated daily as well. Plus the unpretentious wine list offers up wines you'll see around town at twice or three times the price...so you feel like a winner just being there.

I've been going to the Slow Club regularly for 3 years and it consistently serves wonderful food at a reasonable price. Great Burger, great drinks and a cool atmosphere. The service can leave a little to be desired, but the overall experience makes up for it. Negative reviews be damned.

Pros: Awesome Food

I had wanted to try the much-talked-about burger. What a disappointment. The patty is far too small for the oversized bun. The spread of "aoli" on the bun is over-the-top.

But the worst part was the service! I have never been treated so rudely before in my entire life by restaurant staff. The server was condescending when I asked for a condiment, saying "didn't you read the menu? It's already on there."

Then they told us "yes" when we asked if a late-comer could be accomodated. When my friend arrived and asked for water, the server, visibly annoyed, handed him my water! That was just the beginning.

I would never go back here. The staff treated us so badly that I was humiliated as were my friends. None of us had ever received such intimidating and rude service.

Upscale casual, but you pay for it. Also, very weak (non-existant) vegetarian/vegan options. Has a very nice quiet (even when packed) and candle lit atmosphere. Staff is always friendly. Bartenders seem to be universally skilled and quick. No light beer though; beware!

I've dined at Slow Club several times and generally the experience has been positive, meaning the right combination of food, price, service, and atmosphere.

We dined there again last evening and the experience was not as positive as previous ones. The hostess barely acknowledged us when we walked through the door. After she finally finished her conversation with her co-worker, she marched us to a table and huffed away. No have 'have a nice dinner' or anything. Doesn't management train its staff on customer service?

Our waitress was a little better in terms of attitude, but rushed us through the meal which we did not like.

Our food was good (pot roast, black bass), however the codcake appetizer was very disappointing.

Overall I would return b/c I like the atmosphere, however management needs to do a quality of service check with the staff.

Good place to go for good food at a reasonable price. But, definitely not recommended if good service is important to you or if have special diet needs such as food allergies or need to deviate slightly from the printed menu because servers tend to not be very tolerant or helpful in these circumstances.

The crowd turned out older than I thought (after reading the reviews). Mid 30's. I came in for dinner and the combination of ambience & music was great. I didn't have to wait long for a table. The food took a very long time to come out, but it was great nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend this spot for a first date but going for dinner with a signficant other or friend, is perfect.

I love this place. It has a cool vibe...yet not stuffy, very reasonable prices, great drink selection and most importantly...delicious food! My fiance and I went this past Saturday and had a great time. Since they don't take reservations, we waited for our table at the bar (about 30 minutes). When we were seated, we ordered the butter lettuce salad, burger and fries and mahi mahi. DELICIOUS. The burger alone would bring us back again. I can't wait to try their brunch!

10:30 pm, my husband and I pulled up and parked right in front of the door, walked in and were immediately escorted to our table. It was a promising start to an excellent meal. The only problem was that by this time of night the bar was pretty packed and so it was deafeningly loud... could not hear a word he said unless he spoke right in my ear. But once the food came it didn't matter, because I was more intent on my trout than on his conversation! typical cal cuisine, but so well done... trout with white beans and red pepper aioli, he had seared ahi with lentils and tomato chutney. started with cara cara , fennel and olive salad and an antipasti plate. for dessert we shared a plate of fries... how could you skip them?!

Been going to the Slow Club for for dinner for quite some time and have always had a satisfying meal. Excellent environment, excellent food, excellent value. Would go again any time. Also, decided to try it out for brunch one Sunday a couple of months ago and had the same positive experience.

I have been going to Slow Club for 5+ years and is one of my favorite restaurants for their fusion of California and comfort food. The staff is great and the owner/host (Erin) is very personable.

Favorites: caesar salad, chicken breast and burger (be sure to wipe off the excessive mayo glop, though).

The daily featured cocktail is a great touch and the bartender's know there stuff (i.e.: you won't get a poorly made drink).

Don't show up on a friday or saturday night, after 8pm, and expect to be seated right away.

I used to go to Slow CLub when it first opened a lot. It had such a cool vibe, but moreso, awesome food. The vibe is somewhat still there, chic city urban feel away from the outside potrero hood.

>But the food, what happened? VERY dissapointing. You can't change what comes with the meal? Might as well be at Lions! and the pairings and portions have become very generic. Please fix this !!!

In the past, I have had the pleasure of dining at the irresistibly cozy Slow Club, not even minding the wait seeing as the food was always terrific and the portions justifying the price. However, last Saturday I was greatly disappointed. After raving about it to friends, I was unabashedly engulfed in their poor reviews...although the service was great, the food has taken a turn--for the worse! The portions are 1/3 of what they used to be for the same price...and the pairing of sauce & entree was terrible. I truly hope that this was an isolated incidient, if not I am sad that I will no longer patronize this once hidden gem.

Arrived promptly at 6:30 were seated right away. Reviewing the menu, found several promising items. Drinks: Cosmo, cold and tart. Chardonney House: Murphy Goode. We picked a nice Morgan for dinner (kept cool at bar during meal)

1st Course: Him: Turkey vegatable soup, hot, flavorful with just a hint of spice. Good color, nice veggie mix. Her: Torta Rustica. A nice quiche like dish wrapped in pastry. Good flavor mix of artichoke, feta, chard and potato.

Main course: Him: Pan roasted Mahi Mahi. Well done, moist. Caper aioli topped fish a little too much (large dollop). Legumes were tender. Her: Roasted Chicken breast. Crispy herb crust with moist meat. Well accompanied with apricot chutney. Best was potato gratin, smooth with carmelized onion. Excellent dishes.

Dessert: Chocolate mousse cake with vanilla ice cream and rasberry sauce. Disappointingly dry. Needed ice cream to smooth out.

Overall: A rating, will go back.

Try the Niman Ranch Guilt Free Burger. It has all the good stuff but without the grease. Also the fries are really good, like McD but you can actually taste the potatoe.

this place is a great way to celebrate Friday nights without having to plan ahead. they don't take reservations which is nice -- the bar makes the best vodka gimlet in the city (real limes!!). the food is spectacular, the desserts are always incredible. Sunday brunch is also easy to get into, affordable, but feels very special.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Menu changes frequently so you don't get bored and the chef turns out consistently good dishes. Prices are reasonable, atmoshphere is fun. Downsides - they don't take reservations (expect to wait) and they don't have nice wine glasses. But they do have a full bar.

Slow Club should make other restaurants run and hide. While you they don't take reservations, the bar is happening enough that waiting becomes part of the experience (it helps that their bartenders actually know how to make cocktails - seems to not be a requirement in some places these days). Once you do get seated, you just can't go wrong with your order. Recently, I had a salmon that was simply outstanding, and my friends were extremely pleased with their other fish entrees. Slow Club really sets the standard for good food in a simple yet stylish atmosphere. I would recommend Slow Club for a casual, fun dinner with a group of 4-5 people, and their brunch is also still one of the best in the city.
