I used to go to the Oakland Museum a lot as a young kid because I lived only a few blocks away. Even though I was too young to understand or appreciate many of the artifacts and exhibits, it was still fun to see California's history protrayed in the wonderful exhibits like the Native American and the Gold Rush exhibits. As an adult, I can better enjoy and appreciate some of the more mature exhibits, like its impressive collection of paintings (which used to terrify me as a kid because the people in the paintings seemed to be looking at me). It's also fun to rediscover California's rich natural environments and its wildlife, as portrayed in glass-cased exhibits that depict the creature's environment.
