Got turned on to Tokyo Fros from my cousin. Best darn sushi in Sacramento. Tokyo Fros sushi is so fresh, its served really cold (we sat at the sushi bar)
Now I had always heard of Tokyo Fros, but thought it was more of a nightclub than a restaurant.
The waitress's are hot, and everyone there is smiling and likes to engage you. It seems like they only hire attractive waitress that really are personable.
My cousin said that Tokyo Fros is best known for having the best Happy Hour in Sacramento, its half price on their rolls.
I also had the pork wings and my girl had sesame chicken, both very pleasing

Go to Tokyo fros, go there for their Happy Hour
it is half price on most of the menu
their waitstaff is overly friendly and knows the menu
we let Liz, our waitress do the ordering for us.
We had the Passion Roll, and the Mack daddy
we had a peppertail which was awesome and then she bought us dessert for our first time there! we had the Snap Krackle Pop
Tokyo Fros is definetly worth repeating

Unbelievable! I went to go write a review for Banderas restaurant and on the front page of Insider pages is its next door neighbor Tokyo Fros!
So while I'm here let me just say this Tokyo fros is our little secret, shhh
Their drinks are really inexpensive, and if you catch them at happy hour you'll be drinking grey gouse martinis for $4.00 compared to next door Banderas which is $11.00!
So we go to Tokyo Fros for the best happy hour in Sacramento.
Their staff is really friendly and their food is really good, (although I have only eaten there once, we like meat!

WOW ! Tokyo Fros is the best sushi I have ever eaten!
I have never experienced such freshness, ever!
The secret, Tokyo Fros recieves fresh fish daily I was told
I'm a sushi feine...I eat it often and like to try new places.
We have been in Sacramento for a month on a two month contract.
We went to Mikuki's , everyone raved about it...it was not very good
we tried a few others downtown as well.
Our Shuttle driver heard us talking the other day about Sushi. he said tommorow I will drive you guys to the best sushi restaurant in Sacramento.
Tokyo Fros was jumpin when we arrived that first time. Standing room only, we ordered a beer from the bartender.
(She was a hottY) Within a half an hour the place had emptied a bit. Half price happy Hour? thats why this palce was Packed, tommorow got to get here for Happy Hour!
The food was unbelievable. We had the BBQ Tuna combined with onions and garlic sauce....incredible!
next the G spot roll, spicy tuna, jalepenos, deep fried with tomatoes and another sauce!
We have now been here 6 times, everytime we come here, they are very attentive and full of personality here.
I will say that service suffers during Happy Hour, but for half price sushi? Tokyo Fros, why are you not in Boston?

I like to bring my kids to Tokyo fros because they have the best Happy hour. I can eat three rolls, gotta pay for at least one drink at Happy hour per person. But thats only $30 dollars plus tip. therefore I gave 5 stars cause tokyo fros is the best sushi in sacramento but i also think tokyo fros has the best happy hour around.

The best sushi in Sacramento is Tokyo Fros. This place is a bit trendy, saw the waitress's and they were all hotties. But after eating the food I was surprised at how fresh it was. Its also pretty friendly in there. its owned by a white guy and they pride themselves on being sushi but having a cool atmosphere. I have been there only at night. Don't know about lunch.
You must try their dessert, the rice krispy treat concoction. Its a roll with rice krispy and marshmellow fresh Berries...sooooogood!
I gave it 5 stars cause they have not let me down yet...

This place is a little hidden, but well worth the look. It is a favorite of both my family and friends. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, the service is pretty good, and they have half price sushi rolls on Sunday. My kids even like it. The menu is very diverse and delicious. Highly recommended!!

honestly, some of the best food i've ever had. Granted i love all sushi anyway, so i may be biased.
The bar looked cool, though i didn't get anything to drink.
The atmosphere was nice. I don't know how it gets on weekends.
Our waitress was probably one of the top 10 women in the world, which is always a plus.

Last Summer my boyfriends band played here. We were given free dinner as part of the bands agreement. The waitress just insisted that she order for us , glad she did! house special BBQ Tuna is yummy! and the G-spot roll I have dreams of. We live in Modesto, but when in town we always go here.

okay, took the day off so i could take my fiance out for dinner and dancing. never been to tokyo fro's, so trying sushi at another resteraunt seemed like a good idea. really, i cant complain about the food, our waitress was great, it was after when we entered the patio area to watch mother mayham, we were told only v.i.p's could sit outside, apparently if you e-mailed you were on the "list " . so we found nowhere to sit , besides a concrete planter for close to an hour, meanwhile... people walking in from the street were being directed to chairs, when we needed to use the restroom, we were also directed around the side of the building back up to the entrance, apparently, the vip's dont wanna mingle with the actual paying customers. needless to say, we did'nt stay , as far as making us feel welcomed, they sure disapointed us. wont return there again, theres plenty of resteraunts who treat us like vip's no matter what door we walk in, like at wasabi on greenback in orangevale
Pros: mother mayham music was great
Cons: treat your CUSTOMERS like v.i.p's
We started going to Tokyo Fros for Thurs night trivia.
I have now been for Karaoke on Tuesdays which was a blast.
The hostess for the music was so outgoing and made sure everyone was having a good time.
I have not been there for Happy Hour, but i am told that tokyo fros is the best happy hour in sacramento.
My sis in law and i definetly agree that tokyo fros is the freshest sushi in town. I have been to other sushi bars that have sushi that feels just wrong in my mouth. Mikuni downtown and Sushi hook both had us spitting food into napkins, really!
there is a killer place in Sunnyvale. Fros is on the same page with them
Tokyo Fros has always pleased my palate. i love the PASSION roll and the Miracle on rice
try their Rice krispy dessert, we always get one to go! now the manager recognizes us and bought us dessert! no one does that!
Pros: fresh sushi in fact the freshest we have had in SAC
Cons: loud when rockin
Tokyo Fros Happy Hour is the best deal I have found other than Subway sandwhiches foot long sandwich for $5.00.
I can't afford to go there during normal hours unless I have their $8.00 roll of the day special. Monday is the Bad Ass Roll and Tuesday I forgot but it is very good. Wed is their Coach T Roll which the manager had me try and made me go back every almost every Wednsday after class since.
They also have soy wrap for a buck extra per roll. Not many places have soy wrap.
The first time I went there the waitress dropped a tray of drinks. It was impressive how fast the managers and all the other waitress jumped in to clean it . That says something abnout how well they are trained. I think the service here is quite good.
Pros: College budget makes this place home
Cons: too close to school for my budget
BBQ Albacore, go there, it eat, you will go back-again and again
Now just go there. Tokyo Fros is the best sushi in sacramento because they have a happy Hour that just can't be beat. $2.00 drafts and half price sushi...
they have some really good parties on their patio during thursdays
Pros: great food
Cons: I would say it gets LOUD, but we like that
I rate my sushi on freshness. I don't care if it is a traditional place (Fros is not) or a trendy place. Fros is definelty not traditional style but more of a regular hang out.... I'm sitting at the sushi bar and like every third table that walked in, the chefs knew the names of these people! Thats what made me go back. My first experience was not any thing to brag about, it was medi-owker at best, but they had UNI and it was fresh.
I have been back several times and now they call me by whats up "dude"...maybe they will know my name soon?
Pros: Fresh Fish
Cons: parking is a challenge
Love his place. We live in Stockton and stop here as often as we can when in Sacramento. I think Tokyo Fros is the best sushi in Sacramento. Definetly the freshest I have had.
Was also here on Thursday night as well as the recent reviewer....."WORST SERVICE EVER". However we did not have same experience as he did in his review . In fact we had to wait for a table because they were full, so I think this guy did not gets the waitress's phone number and wrote this...lol
All I have to say is I wish there was a Tokyo Fros in Stockton.
Pros: personable service
Cons: parking
If you are looking for sushi that is not authentic and do not care for the service, then you might enjoy this place. This place sucks!!!!! went there on a thursday night and it was not even busy. Had to wait 20 minutes for our waitress and had to wait an additional 10 minutes for our water. Not only that, I ordered a glass of beer and when I got my beer it was warm. I also saw a cockroach by the window panel where I was sitting. I paid for my drink and left. That place is dirty, nasty and I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Pros: none
Cons: everything
wow. fun place no doubt. Been there for lunch, and it is quite different than thurs night (was loud with DJ, but we were there after 9pm)
I agree with the reviews as far as trendy applies. Waitress are very attractive, but seem to know their stuff But food is really fresh. The owners are always there which is a plus for me. My friends dad who owns restaurants always told us to eat where you see the owner there often, so thumbs up there.
I have read some negative reviews and have not shared same experiences as they did I like this place
Pros: great personality/atsmosphere
Cons: more fusion than I like
so since my first review i've bee back twice and there hasent been any problems with the food so far i've tried the geek girls gone wild, the spicy salmon, the tarantula and the fro so def all of them were really good we've also been trying the apps and the crab wantons are amazing
it seems to me that all of the bad reviews must not like sushi because mine was good. not the best but most definitely not the worst . good vibe for the 20 somethings and college kids. this was my first time visiting we just had the CA Rolls but they we're good.the tempura was a little under cooked but nothing to really complain about we'll be back
Pros: good food
Cons: loud, dim
A long time sushi fan, I tried Tokyo Fro's for the convenience of how close it was to my house. That was the reason it got 2 stars instead of one. The rolls are bland, and too much mimic the California-Japanese fuson style that Mikuni's creates when making it's rolls. Either get more creative or stick to traditional. I tried traditional, and found they couldn't even get that right.
If they provided a larger fresh fish menu, and actually cut their nigiri to size (not monster pieces on mounds of rice) I might give them a 3. The service was slow, and so were the chefs. For such a small area, I thought, "where are all the guests that are slowing these chefs down?".
The Mac Daddy roll is the best by far, I was there last night. There was a Mixer going on with a Hookah Bar in the back. Everyone is so friendly, fun and lively! Was very relaxed last night, easy going crowd with business professionals, some still in suits.
I'm going back next Monday, I cant wait! There is a Fashion Thurs Event going on I may go to that one as well. Great place for the new girl in town. I wasn't harassed at all by any men either. So double bonus!
Pros: Everything about the place
After reading the reviews on this site, we tried Tokyo Fros. It was my girlfriends birthday party. This place plays good music, and once the place filled up, you can tell this place is more of a singles hang-out / and meat market. We were a large group, and had to wait for a bigger table. lots of plasma tvs and all sorts of different people. Once the manager found out it was my girlfriends birthday, he turned off the music and announced to everyone it was her birthday. He poured her a sake bomb, the whole restaurant cheered, and then they asked the crowd should we make her drink another? She did, and it was awesome. And the G-spot roll is so good! love the names of the rolls too! Definetly a party place. We went back for lunch the next month and it was a mellow place packed with business suits, totally contrast to the thursday night we celebrated on. love this place!
Pros: everybody is so friendly
Cons: not a place i would take my kids (at night)
Wow, went to Tokyo Fros for the first time last month. I've been living in Roseville and have not been able to try restaurants in Sacramento. This place is everything I heard it was. It was not as loud as some of these reviews. The food was outstanding. I heard the food was ok, but the vibe is why people go here. The food was fantastic! The BBQ Albacore (they call it the #!) Way Better than Mikunis!
Why I'll go back? (three times this month!)
Service was phenomenal. When you go to these asian restaurants I feel like the waitress's just take orders, a Fros they made good suggestions. The last time we were there the waitress just pulled up a chair and sat with us describing the whole menu. (my husband keeps talking about that waitress...lol)
Will you please open in a Fros in Roseville???
Pros: just totally different than your normal sushi bar
Cons: no parking! next door is Banderas another popular restaurant
Basically some of the worst sushi and tempura I ever had and the music was out of place. I have not been there in years, I keep my distance. There are so many better places to eat japanese food in Sacramento.
Pros: Still trying to think of one... it's been 15 minutes
Cons: The food, staff, the ambiance
Been living in Sacramento for 10 months now, before that we lived in Hawaii, needless to say we know what good sea food is, especially sushi
Tokyo Fros is the best sushi we HAVE EVER had! I cannot believe some of the negative reviews My Husband and I now eat here several times a month. Is it loud sometimes, but its energy and crowd make it even more interesting.
I have not been there at lunch, so I can't tell you anything about that.
The waitresss are probably the most beautiful girls my husband says he has ever seen in a restaurant. I have to agree, but the sushi is awesome!
Last time we were there it looked like one of the managers was giving out free sake shots to the customers waiting for tables.
We will definetly bring our friends here!
Pros: portions sizes and freshness
Cons: you have to get there early or your going to wait
After driving by the place so many times, I decided to finally give it a try. The ambience of the restaurant is that of a sports bar--with its loud rock music and ESPN on flatscreens hung up around the restaurants--rather than a traditional Japanese restaurant. No problem there, but it set the tone for my lunch. They offered lunch specials at $8.95, which would not be too bad of a deal considering they came with salad, rice, and I think miso soup, but the lack of selection beyond teriyaki and one sushi combo left me scouring the menu for something better. Being not too hungry, I decided to go with some nigiri for appetizer and udon to fill me up.
The nigiri came on a minimalist but carefully arranged platter. They looked decently fresh, but I could have sworn a few of them had a hint of perfume as an aftertaste. I couldn't tell if it was from the soysauce, the hands of the sushi chef, or maybe the plate itself, but wasn't sure enough about it to bring it to the waitress's attention. I neededn't have worried though; she was nowhere to be seen until she brought my udon.
The udon was the worst taste-wise and appearance-wise I have ever seen. It looked like somebody just dumped a bottle of soysauce into some hot water, threw a few strands of noodles and some deep stuff and one shiitake mushroom, and tossed leftover, roughly cut 1/2" green onions into the bowl. The broth was awful: too salty without any sign of dashi like it's supposed to have. The mushroom was good sized, but it looked like nobody took the trouble of soaking it in water to reconstitute it before dumping it in the soysauce water, so it was impossible to even bite into the thing. Talk about the worst $10.95 I ever spent.
All in all, I was not at all impressed with this restaurant. When I first got there, it showed promise as a place I would bring my friends to after work, but after this experience, I'd rather stay home and make my own sushi and udon.
Pros: Sports-bar like ambience
Cons: The food itself, bad service
I am also really suprised to see all of the negative reviews. I love this place! The rolls are really creative and delicious and in all of the hundreds of times that I have been here, I have never once had a bad experience. Make sure you get the Green Tea Creme Brulee for dessert. It is a little known treasure.
Pros: Creative, delicious sushi
Cons: It sometimes has a sports bar like atmosphere.
wow....i am surprised to see the reviews of Tokyo fros. i have eaten there pretty frequently for the past two years. the menu has had some change...the prices have gone up...but i have always found their sushi to be good. The rolls are NOT 4 inches wide. sorry. if you order anything on the specialty menu...it is a very good sized portion. if you want to talk about bad value...try mikuni...their prices are a joke. every roll i have ever had there was good. they are also good at making creations based on what you like. i would recommend sitting at the bar. there you are face to face with the chefs who will be attentive to you. the music is usually good...last thursday was new and late 90's rock and r&b. i have also had more than one experience of something being offered to us by the sushi chef...that we didnt order. they are always making rolls and then giving them out to the people at the bar. i would recommend people who are true sushi lovers to try this place....for the food. i have never had my sushi be warm...or not taste good.
Pros: the specialty rolls
Cons: the service. if you sit at a table. try the bar.
I am a sushi connosseur at heart - I still believe that the best sushi in Northern California can be found in the bay area - notably San Francisco. That said, I was in the area and decided to try out Tokyo Fros for lunch with my business associates. Tokyo Fros is tucked away from the rest of the plaza. Upon entering Tokyo Fros, it seemed to carry a very modern, artsy appearance that is reminiscent of an art gallery. However, the experience was not worth reminiscing. While waiting patiently for a table, we find that the restaurant had a distinctive smell. We were served by one sole waiter, who happened to be working the bar at the same time. We ordered the standard fare - sushi of course - the house specialties. Upon receiving the sushi, we noticed that the sushi is commonplace - e.g. sushi you would find at Bel-Air/Safeway. The sushi was wrapped with way too much rice than the good stuff (maguro, unagi, soft shell crab, etc) In addition, the fish was not fresh, it was a bit warm. The service of the waiter was terrible - we had to ask for water, plates, napkins, etc. Right after we received our food, we heard a loud SNEEZE from a chef at the sushi bar - I wonder who got that dirty sushi - after all sushi is raw. When we were done, the waiter gave the check, didn't say a word, and left back to the bar. The prices for the sushi are ASTRONOMICAL for what you receive in terms of quantity, quality, preparation, and taste. After all, Tokyo Fros left me with a bad taste - putting a dent in my wallet as well as disappointing my business associates.
You call this Japanese food? Tokyo Fros puts this to shame (in a very disgusting way). Parking is difficult as well!
Pros: Artsy ambience and a strange smell - if your into those kind of things
Cons: Bad Parking, Lousy Location, Terrible Service, Terrible Food, Terrible Everything
I love sushi, BUT THIS PLACE WAS BAD!
It was nothing more but a glorified bar.
The hostess noticed us walk in but didn't seem to care much.
I noticed a puky smell around the bar.
The first waitress showed up once and never came back.
The music was so loud i could NOT even hear the chef as much as he couldn't hear me.
The food was bad, I even noticed the chef using an old rag and raw fish at the same time. I could not even finish eating.
When i asked for a check, the third waitress didn't give me all my change back, assuming that I didn't want my .91 cents. And on top of that i went home and had raw fish food piosoning..
NO ONE DESERVES SUCH BAD SERVICE, yet alone a bad a bad environment and food that will make you gag.
BEST PLACE TO GO FOR SUSHI, ALTHOUGH VERY BUSY, IS MIKUNI'S! GO THERE, IT'S LIKE EATING ANGEL FOOD.
They need to learn to make sushi. First of all the rolls are like 4" wide, secondly they are not fresh. The service is horrible. They hire a bunch of big tittied waitresses in an attempt to distract you from their horrible prices, service, and quality of food. Do not eat here. Personally, I reccomend Mana on broadway.
Pros: Big tittied waitresses
Cons: Bad food, Bad Service, Bad Prices
Sushi here is so great! I come here for lunch & on Thursdays when they have a DJ spinning. The service is great & our server was very helpful, Sake bombs are always recommended. I did try the oysters & they were horrible! They came over warm & didn't taste fresh. The menu is quite interesting...............
I was told as of 2 weeks ago that the fish is no longer fresh due to costs is this true?
Pros: Sushi, Ambeince, Crowd
Cons: Oysters, Parking
When you walk into Tokyo Fro's you realize why they call it a rockin sushi bar. For the most part it seems that Tokyo Fro's aims towards a younger demographic. They have Karaoke every Tuesday, pre-club parties on Thursday and from time to time the even have live music. The food at Tokyo Fro's is tasty. And the best part about it is the size of the portions. The rolls at Fro's are the biggest I've ever seen. The prices are reasonable, however if you go during happy hour (Mon-Fri 4-6pm) or on half off sundays (5-10pm) then you will find yourself a real deal. The service was in my opinion, was good. The waitresses were real friendly and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. If you are looking for a good dinner for a good price and a good time, Fro's is the place.
I love sushi, and this is definitely the best sushi restraurant in Sac I've been to so far. The waitresses (I haven't had a male waiter so far) are nice but maybe a little understaffed. The food is very good though, it tastes very fresh. Watch your bill though, we were charged the weekend price for a weekday special, when we pointed it out the waitress seemed a little annoyed but corrected it. I think this had to do with the understaffing issue though...
