I was a customer for over 5 years, and it was hit or miss with service. Sometimes they wanted to help and dedicate time to me, sometimes it was as if they were doing me a favor by allowing me to buy from them. Recently, by my own account and by accounts of close associates, the level of service and the overall attitude has deteriorated to a point that I will not bother going to the store even for a major discount. The bad taste in your mouth you leave with every time is too much to make up for even a half-deal that no longer seems a reality. What a sorry set of unhappy people!!!

I had spent about a year in and out of this shop and witnessed more rude interactions than I wouldve ever thought possible in a professional setting. I was also privvy to an associate that worked with them frequently and verified a large amount of the positive feedback online are posted by Jay's daughter Amanda. This company schemes and disrespects customers. Their merchandise can be found at almost any other coin specialty shop and you never need to deal with such horrible people. Avoid them and their shady dealings. It's just not worth it. How professional can a place be where their employees are playing World of Warcraft instead of assisting customers. Good luck.

Took several unique gold jewelry items in for appraisal and was treated courteously and professionally. Sold one gold piece at a very fair price. Transaction was quick and painless. I would recommend the Alhambra Coin Center as a good place to get appraisals or buy and sell jewelry and precious metals. Just like anything else, do your homework before you go through the front door and you'll get better results.

I had a lot of old jewelry to sell and shopped three places including Alhambra Coin Center. All three had different prices but Alhambra Coin was the best by far - twice as much as GoldMax and even better than my regular jeweler. I could not be happier with the price that I got from Alhambra Coin for my unwanted gold and silver. Best of all, bought a beautiful ring that they had for sale with the money that I received and know that I got a great deal on that too.

I went to alhambra coin to buy my grandson a birthday gift about two weeks ago. At the store were two men and a young woman, both men were helping other customers, while the woman was sitting down on her computer, I was in the store for at least 2-3 minutes before one of her co-workers had informed her that I hadnt been helped yet, she looked up from her desk and asked what she could do for me, I was asking her about gold coins and if they had anything in the $400-500 price range, she pointed to the front display and said "Theres alot of gold coins in there." I was asking her about prices and she couldnt be bothered to leave her desk, i felt really uncomfortable, and when she did get up to show me some coins it was as if I was annoying her by asking her questions, and while I was debating between what coin I was going to buy, she went to sit back down at her desk and one of the other gentlemen began helping me instead, I ended up buying a half ounce eagle but that will be the last time I go there.

I had a pile of jewelry that I was shopping around to sell so I took it to several places and was surprised that different stores would tell me different pieces were real or fake with no explination! Especially confusing was that no two stores seemed to agree on what was real or what was fake. Alhambra Coin weighed it in front of me, and I also liked that they have their prices up on this big board so it didn??t seem like they were making it up as they went along and the girl helping me was friendly. I got way more from Alhambra than any of the other stores I went to, and their store didn??t feel gross like a pawn shop.

I must preface my comments with this:
-I have been a collector/dealer for over 25 years.
-I spend well into the six figures a year on coins on a rotating basis.
-I have visited over 500 coin shops in 10 countires across four continents
-And never have I encountered such brazen condescencion, such a miserly business attitude, and such disrespect for customers than I have at the Alhambra coin center.
-Some background: I collect primarily world paper money and coins. I used to deal in US, but shifted when I realized just how rare many world issues are compared to their US contemporaries. You can go to any major coin show and find 20 1893-s dollars on the floor, but then try to find a 1944 Philippine 500 pesos, and I bet you can't find even a damaged one.
-Coin collectors can be a very passionate about their hobby, so it pays for any dealer to at least engage someone who comes in to buy. After asking them about world paper money, they offered two large bins full of some low end material, when asked about the price, they said that they would have to look it up. fair enough, because world paper is an area that not everyone knows about. However, after sorting through some stuff, it became obvious that they thought that I was not a "big money" player, therefore, not worthy of their time. After they quoted a price to me on some junk foreign bulk coins, they turned around and stated that they would have to go through and look them up too! It was poudage! (Junk foreign bulk coins). I couldn't believe the attitude. Rather than waste another minute with them, I turned around and left.
-What really made me upset was the way they treated another young man in the store when he asked about gold. A woman showed the man a common $5 gold piece but would even let him hold it and then told him that "It's gonna be expensive for you" You can tell the guy was ready to plunk down the $300 that the coin was worth, but he definately didn't need to hear a condescending remark like that.
-Overall, a simple google search for coin dealers around Pasadena/Alhambra results in over 20 shops within a 10 mile radius. There are plenty of other options to choose from. And those shops, at least have some sense of dignity. I ended up spending over $11k that day, at other local shops.

I had taken my coin collection to another store and left dissatisfied after the owner dismissed my collection after just a passing glance. The red headed guy I dealt with at Alhambra Coin not only took the time to explain what I had and why it was worth what it was worth (which is all I wanted ... to know what I had), but was just a generally nice guy. I told the guy I wasn't ready to sell, and he didn't push. Overall, it was just what I wanted: basic information from a friendly salesman. Recommended!

To be fair, most of the people I encountered in this place were really nice. However, there was one woman that worked there that made me so uncomfortable. She was rude and condescending. My original reason for going there was to have some Roosevelt Dimes examined. I'm still not convinced that she gave me a proper examination that I can be satisfied with. I had to practically beg her to weigh them. Then I was given an unsorted box of wheat pennies to look through. It was hard enough to look for the years that I was looking for and the quality I want. That same rude woman comes by and tells me that I've spent too much time in the store and I had to wrap up and leave! She also got all upset with me about going through the unsorted box. Apparently I wasn't supposed to go through that box (even though that was the one they gave me!). I then asked if she had any steel pennies from 1944. She then argues with me that there was no so such thing. That's actually not true. There is a coin from 1944 that is made of steel and it is rare! So it tells you how knowledgeable she is. I'm not sure if I even got the best deal on the coins, because no one could agree on a price for them. First they told me that they were all ten cents and then later after the rude woman looked at them she said that they needed to be looked at because they were going to be different prices. :oP At that point I was so frustrated and upset that I had already made the decision to buy all the coins that I picked out because I had spent so much of "MY TIME" looking for the ones that I wanted. The rude woman tells me that when I come back all the coins will be sorted. Bottom line, I am never coming back to that place again.

Alhambra coins is a joy to deal with. Went in, dealt with the lady there, Amanda I think was her name, and got out. No fuss, no muss. She even offered me coffee. Had to refuse because I'm a tea drinker. Would recommend these folks to everyone.

I have been a customer at the alhambra coin center for almost twenty years now. I was referred to them by a dealer who was going out of business and could no longer service my needs. When he sent me there he said he was doing so because they were the longest established in the area and had a reputation for good service and a square deal. I wish I had an address for him because he was not kidding! I will admit that I have very simple needs as I only buy and sell a little bullion but Jay and Malcolm have always taken the best care of me possible. I can state categorically that I have never been treated with anything less than the utmost care and courtesy. I hope to continue my long and pleasant relationship (18 years and counting!!!) with the fine people at the Alhambra Coin Center.

This was my second dealing with Alhambra Coin. The reviews are right they can be more personable. I was in a rush to get some family savings turned into gold. Alhambra Coin took forever and was very aloof at pulling out he goods and laying down the bottom line. I bought what they had and finally got out. I hit all the local shops and one shop in Pasadena recommended another shop just north of Colorado blvd. They made me laugh and got me in and out in record time. I went back to Alhambra Coin for the last time today. I will make the slightly farther drive to old town pasadena from now on.

I found the staff of the Alhambra Coin Center to be extremely friendly and helpful. I am new to investing in gold and wanted to start small. They answered every one of my long list of questions, gave me options, and then gave me space to let me decide! Very large store, huge selection, fair prices, knowledgeable and friendly staff! Definitely coming back for more!!

PROS: Huge selection, friendly staff, great prices
CONS: Wish they were open more hours on Saturday

Called The Alhambra Coin Ctr. to ask for a quote on some silver coins. It was my first time caling them and they were pretty much as the other review warned. I was not happy I spent the time dialing their number. The lady's attitude had a lot to be desired, very combative and concescending. I guess they are doing so well they can afford to blow off new customers.

Sorry to have bothered you with my questions Alhambra Coin Ctr. I won't do that again, but you lost a big customer as I had about $500,000 to invest. Too bad for you maybe this warning to others will encourage you to improve your phone manners

A common bit of advice often heard is: If you want to trade bullion, get to know your LOCAL dealer. Yeah, I've tried this at the Alhambra Coin Center. Every time I go in and sell, I try to strike up a conversation. They avoid eye contact and are very cut and dry in their speech. I mean, I make sure to shower and brush my teeth, so I don't quite know why this is. I am tempted to try another local dealer and see what the people are like...maybe the vibe will be a tad more positive.

Have a coin collection and just can't find that one coin to complete your set? Well, look no father than Alhambra Coin Center, where they carry a long list of exotic and valuable coins. These range from foreign coins from Europe, to past and new coins that orginated in America. This place is also espically helpful if you are trying to collect all the state quarters that are being released as they have a program that helps you keep track and obtain the newest releases and carry older ones. The prices are fair, which makes this a unbelieveable find for any collector.
