I went to this store with about $2500 for my new 150 gallon project. I spoke to the owner about questions regarding a sump. I asked what media to use he replied "Bio balls would be too expensive." He made it seem like the only solution would be too expensive and then he didn't give me any alternatives. "The sock catch doesn't do anything." when I asked about using that. All thier tanks are set up with a sock catch. He made me feel like he did not want to help me becuase he assumed I didn't have money. This guy must not like money. I took my $2500 to Extreme Marine around the corner...they were happy to have my business and contradicted everything the owner of Tat's said earlier that day.

Love this place! The staff are very knowledgable, and helpful. They are pretty good at talking to your level of expertise, and have lots of advice and experience. Tanks are clean, fish are hardy and in good shape. Prices are normal for an independent fish store. My only wish was that they had more saltwater tanks. What they do have is usually well stocked. They get their new shipments in on Monday, so Mon/Tues is a good time to go 'window' shopping. They tend to get lots of new and exciting things each week, not the same old same old. Have found some rare-er species here. Not to mention the HUGE reef tank they have on display, you have to see it to believe it! On the slightly negative side, I recommend NOT going towards closing hours, as service is not quite as casual or one on one. This is the perfect place for the beginner or seasoned fish lover!

Pros: Healthy fish, helpful friendly knowledgable staff, appropriate prices

Cons: Sometimes under staffed

Everything about TaT's is authentic, the vibrant colors on the fish, the natural coral, beautiful tanks and the honest-to-goodness fish smell. The prices are good, the fish are a bit healthier than the chains and the help is, without a doubt, much more knowledgeable than the chain store.

I like the fish selection and never have to wait long to have my questions answered. The staff will look up the answer and other fish stores will just tell you they don't know the answer or give you an incorrect answer.

Tat is the BEST place to go for fish in Ventura County. I started up an aquarium when I was in college and their knowledgable staff helped me pick out a good school of fish for my new tank. They also offered advice on cleaning and caring for my new fish.

They have a great selection, really, don't bother going anywhere else for your next fish!
