A minus star rating, bingo.
Not certain if its just this store or the Apple attitude in general. I bet on the latter.
3 weeks ago i bought a macbook pro 13.3" from..not sure actually since "Cody" the salesman, whom just sold the unit to me and 2 other up sales, suddenly disappeared and a new guy takes over. I should have walked right then.
That same eve, the unit was too hot to touch and the speakers were...as i have seen many others have complained about... what you might expect from a $300 generic unit from Kmart.
Some days later i noticed blue steaks/blemishes on the screen...and the touchpad was very irratic.
Quality vs price? Hands down bottom of the barrel.
Now....service (what?), after realizing i had bought a nice looking piece of art which function could only be to hang on the wall, i called "Cody", too busy, i left a message, after 3 hours i call again, too busy, two weeks later, he still hasn't called.
Then i email Apple including their top guns, one being Al Gore, never any response.
I call Apple service where the rep, instead of saying "money back or an exchange sir?", he wanted me to stand in line at the genius bar which has a wonderful reputation (see this thread)

My conclusion: this is the worst computer purchase experience i have ever had in 15 years with around 10-12 buys of nearly every brand there is.
-- i do not believe this was a coincidence, judging from 5 different departments.
-- Apple's strength is in design, not quality and thereby severely over priced.
-- service? professional attitude? Corte Madera or other, again, the worst experience in 15 years....you couldn't drag me to anywhere near an Apple logo again.

It appears that the employees have a so obvious arrogance issue, possibly from the state of mind being "Apple is best, sales are great, buy it or not, we really don't care, there's someone right behind you in line..."
The apple folks are very special people because they have a special product, its kind of like the Rotary club with an attitude.
Finally, may i point out that, after looking around again, i found a super Dell multimedia monster of a laptop, 15", TWICE as powerful as the macbook and great, respectful, no attitude service. Price with tax $1000, 300 less for twice the product. MacBooks 15"? $1800.
I dont understand how apple can still be in business.

A comment after further pondering:
Apple is hard to beat re. design and innovation....but many other are picking up...to near half price.
Design and innovation does NOT equal great quality and service, which to me obviously comes first i suspect to those who are serious and want something that makes sense in terms of stability, price and service
I am now convinced Apple is a state of mind...or status?

If you're on the status/design/showoff feature boat and just got to have that lighted apple on the lid, there's only one choice.
For the rest of us in the real world, i cannot see Apple as any option, period.

And as said, now with other companies getting the appearance together, i can only see (keeping in mind that most of the original top guns have left just in the last year), unless Apple cuts their "status inflated" prices by 35-40%, in three years tops, they'll be doing other things.....or selling out to China.

I wish I could give this store a negative stars! I have bought all my mac stuff here.... my macbook pro 13 inch, my 27in Imac, Both my Itouchs and my Ipod. Everytime I go in to buy stuff, the people are really nice, and help me find whatever I need. But My Imac that I almost paid 2000 for and it is only 10 months old keeps shutting down, So I take it to the store and the guy behind the genius bar treats me as if I am stupid.... and says the problem was just a software glitch and told me I just needed to reinstall the software. Something I can do at home or they could do it for me over night and i can pick it up the next day. I go the next day and they tell me that they found new problems and they hold on to the Imac for 4 days and they found 2 "NEW" hardware problems that needed to be replaced....... So After 5 days I pick up my mac, ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS HAPPENING THE NEXT DAY! And As I am righting this I am on the phone with the Genius Bar Administer at the Corta Madera store and I have been on hold for almost 40mins.......... He just actually picked up. I am being put through hell...... SIGH! :'-(

I was immediately greeted by TWO employees. I told them the tip of my power cord had fallen into my iBook's receptacle. Tweedle Dee tells me, ""you need to change the ***port. That'll be $280 plus tax"". I ask her, ""Really?? Can't I just see if another power cord would work?"" Tweedle Dum says, ""Yes, you can buy one."" Me: ""REALLY? I have to BUY a power cord just to see if it will work? I was hoping to just plug it in and transfer the data either to a flash drive, or if I can decide on a new computer, just transfer the data onto that"". It was only after I divulged that I'm looking for a new computer that I was directed to a table, where several power cords were available- and voila- the laptop starts charging, no $280 fix necessary. I had bought my boyfriend's Macbook Air here, but found myself deeply regretting not getting it vastly cheaper at MacMall or MacConnection.

I had a great experience here. I bought my laptop here and I love it! I haven't had any problems with it. I was able to get a good deal because I was a student at the time and so got a 10% discount on everything that I purchased. I was interested in laptop carrying bags too, but they were pretty darn expensive! The location is good too!
