I like that this restaurant provides lunch specials instead of a buffet. But that's about it. The portions aren't particularly generous, and the food isn't that good. Granted, I have only ordered one dish both times I visited the restaurant (Aloo Gobi (not sure on spelling, sorry), but I was underwhelmed. Service wasn't extremely attentive either.

I love this place. They have such great food, but their customer service NEEDS to be improved. I love to go for the food, but I'm sometimes not in the mood to deal with the staff. They are very pushy, rude, and very anxious to get you out of there (not as though they are so busy.) They just want to get you out of there for some reason. I have even taken food to go, PURPOSELY, so I don?t deal with their staff, and it just wasn't the same as dining in there.
So you gotta weigh out your options. Great food VS. Horrible customer service.

When we arrived we used the valet service (no problems). We were seated promptly and ordered lamb samosas, chicken tikka masala, matar paneer, garlic naan and rice.

Service: A++++
The service was excellent, the waiter checked on us periodically and the food came out of the kitchen at lightening speed.

Lamb Samosas: C+
The samosas tasted all right, but were a bit dry and fell apart entirely when I attempted to break it apart with my fork. Ground meat inside was flavorful, but lacked interest.

Chicken Tikka Masala: A-
The best dish we ordered here. The sauce was creamy and just the perfect level of spicy heat. Great over our garlic naan or rice.

Matar Paneer: C
The matar paneer was a bit too watery and lacked any stand-out flavor. It was passable, but I would order something else when I eat here again.

Garlic Naan: A-
Great flavor and texture, a little burnt on the edges.

Rice: B
No problems with the rice, just plain ol' rice. Some of the Indian restaurants I frequent add rice or herbs to the rice to make it more interesting.

Overall: I'd recommend the place for decent Indian food.

We went to this restaurant on New years eve and had absolutely the most horrendous experience. If you're too busy to cater to customers sitting in your restaurant, you need to hire more staff or get the staff you have to move their butts (there were certainly enough staff on hand, they just seemed to be heavily sedated or stoned and had trouble acknowledging our existence). We had to wave frantically and shout at times to attract the staff's attention. To begin with, we were well ready with our order, but had to wait about 15 minutes to attract the "customer service" guy to send a waiter our way to take our order! Bizzare. This worthy's only job seemed to be bugging customers and engaging them in inane and inordinately lengthy conversations. We were already fuming. Then, a dopey waiter turns up to take our order, and forgets to get the hot water I ordered (I had a bad throat). I had to again go through frantic-wave to get my hot water. Food arrived, was delicious, compliments to the chef, no complaints in that department. We decided to have dessert. So we again went through frantic-wave. No response. Nary an acknowledgement of our presence. 15,20,30 minutes passed. Absolutely mind boggled, I practically shouted the "customer service" guy to our table, and gave him a piece of my mind. Told him that we had changed our mind about dessert, and would he please send the check asap. To which the guy had the cheek to remark that "I am not a waiter. i will send you a waiter. Lucky, please attend to these guys. they are complaining" Wtf!! By now we had lost it, and I went over to the big turbaned owner, and made a formal complaint. The guy came over, and apologised, more in the spirit of "I dont want a scene" rather than "I am genuinely sorry what can i do to make up". We left a $0 tip and left with a sour taste in our mouths.
Needless to say, this may be the taste of India but is most definitely not the spirit of India.

After telling me how great this place was my friends brought me here for dinner today. I have to say I was impressed. Even though it might be a little Americanized it was the best INDIAN food I have had. I mean, the service was very good the food was really flavorful. I didn't even have to add any extras spices to make my food more flavourable it was perfect
After taking our orders we were given some kinda appitizers called samosas (On the house from managar cauz we waited so long for our table it was so bz over there) which was perfect for an appitizer. I ordered the Chicken tikka masala, rice, and garlic naan. I have to tell you it was amazing.
The service was great, I mean the staff was very attentive.Owner and manager they both came to our table and asked everything is fine .Waiter he picked up our plates quickly after we were done with each one.

I would definitely be coming to TASTE OF INDIA AGAIN again.

I was really surprised to see nefgative comments for Taste Of India. It is the best Indian restaurant I have ever seen in LA. There food are very very good and consistently good. I have been to india and had Indian Cuisine there. I feel no difference. Even tastier and healthier than what I had in India. There food are great, good service and manager"s personal attention to what is being delivered to customer had impressed me a lot. If I ever want to go to any Indian restaurant that will be TASTE OF INDIA and TASTE OF INDIA only, where Indian cuisine is at its best!!!!!

Great place for lunch or dinner on any given day/night. Very casual space. Great food. Good service. Good value. My husband and I have been tried many Indian restaurants and my husband's favorite dish is, of course, the popular chicken tikka masala.... and he claims that Taste Of India makes the BEST chicken tikka masala... and I may just have to agree..... =]

I just had the most bizarre experience at Taste of India today. I walked in an asked an older gentleman in a waiter's uniform if I could place a carryout order. He said, Hello. I said hello back and asked if I could please place an order. He did not answer me at all. I thought maybe he didn't speak English, but I asked again, and he just looked over my head like I wasn't talking. I waited by the bar for a while, holding a take out menu. I was absolutely starving, and had to be in Calabasas in 25 mins, so I didn't want to drive anywhere else. I sat down at a table, assuming a waiter would take my order. 10 minutes passed, and no one acknowleged me or took my order. The waiter stood 5 feet from me and competly ignored me. I was the only person in the entire restaurant! I could understand if they were super busy or it was almost closing time. I finally walked up to someone speaking on the phone and, when they finished their call, placed an order. It was the Vegetarian lunch special, just curry and a salad. I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes, it took 25, and I was the only customer there. Needless to say, I was late to my appt, and didn't get a chance to eat. I used to eat at the champagne brunch all the time 3 years ago. I don't know if the ownership has changed or if I just happened to get a shift of trainees or something, but I won't be back. If one person had apologized for the wait or explained why the staff ignored me I wouldn't be so irritated.

My husband and I have been visiting Taste of India on a frequent basis for the past six years after receiving the recommendation from a neighbor at the time. Although I have been dubious about divulging our well kept secret, they do afterall deserve the recognition. I was initially warned to not let the strip mall locale deter me from discovering what awaited inside and I am so happy that we listened! Being a lover of Indian food, I was delighted to discover the friendly and knowledgeable staff, a sufficient menu and the BEST Indian food I have ever had (the Chicken Mahkni is our absolute favorite). Although for some there might be perceived down-sides to dining in a "strip mall location" (it is definitely not glamorous), for us the upsides are numerous; the small and casual environment is perfect for quiet and leisurely dinner conversation; We have never required a reservation for dinner and the staff is always friendly and willing to assist with menu items to suit your palate; Finally, the value remains one of the best around and the parking (free of valet at this point) is rarely difficult to find.

If you don't mind trying to park in a tiny strip mall and then stepping over the many drunks/vagrants who will accost you for money and/or food; only to order indian food that doesn't have any flavor or imagination (they just throw large chunks of chicken in to your dish, not take the time to cut it up so it looks appetizing) in a very cramped setting, then this is the place for you!

PROS: none
CONS: avoid and go elsewhere

For nearly five years my family and I have been going to TASTE OF INDIA. Delicious food, served by a warm and wonderful staff in a simple but peaceful environment. The owner and the waiter offer wonderful suggestions about what to order to expand your knowledge of Indian food. Every time I take their advice I end up with an utterly FANTASTIC meal. Highly reccomend.

I went on 30 days vacation to India 7 years ago. We visited different cities and never ate in the same restaurants twice. Food overthere was delicious and after coming back, I frantically looked for an Indian restaurant. Taste of India is where I go when I miss the flavors. I've been eating there (or ordered for delivery) for the last 7 years. I've tried other Indian restaurants in L.A. but so far this beats them all. The staff is very friendly and they get to know you.
My favorite dishes are Veggie Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Spinach and LambBalls, even though I really like everything. Also try the marinated carrots and calapenos in olive oil.

Hands down the tastiest and most authentic indian food in all of Los Angeles. It's a shame to see others write poor reviews, I suspect they have gotten so used to the Hollywood style Indian that's more commonplace, they wouldn't know real Indian food if it was poured over their head. The managers & owners get to know their customers and are always friendly & helpful. I have been going to Taste of India for 7 years and can't recommend it enough. It become's everyone's favorite Indian place when I take them there. I found it when I lived close by, but now I live by downtown LA, and still drive there as often as I can for the wonderful food.

This is the worst Indian Food I have ever eaten. We ordered a selection of 5 dishes. All of them looked the same and tasted the same -the color and taste of BBQ sauce. Every dish was sweet with a sickening tang. The only differance was the meat or vegtable in the dish.
Really bad!!

Not an authenticated Indian food at all. Totally wrong name Taste of India. It gives a very wrong impression of Indian food. There are much better Indian restaurants around. I have been many times because it was just next to my job, but 99% of times I regretted.
It is totally overrated. They dont have buffet. They have fix value buffet plates at a lower price, but better items are not included, so you have to buy separately.
