I have only tried the nachos and enchiladas, but they were both delicious! Enjoyed my margarita too!!! I like that they have lots of outdoor seating too.

Maybe it's the fact that I cook authentic mexican food daily at home. But my family decided to go out to eat one night and try this local dive. I kept seeing advertising to eat at this place as a stop before going to the playhouse--so perhaps my expectations were alittle high. We got there, and the place was empty-not a single customer, so we figured that would be perfect for getting the best customer service. Wrong! It took the waitress 15 minutes to come to our table, just to order our drinks!! We placed our orders and waited....even longer. Meanwhile, we used the restrooms...which reeked like a truckers stop. Horrible sanitation practices, I'm surprised these people have an A!! After trying the bland tortilla soup, we were all less than satisfied with our meals. The fish tacos looked like they each had a microwaved strip of frozen fish-like substance. And my $14 chicken mole meant I got 2 SMALL thighs (more like wings!) drowned in unseasoned ready-to-eat mole sauce. We wouldn't of had any issue had we been dining at say a buffet. But for what we had to pay, we could of had a decent meal at a steakhouse. Such a waste of a good appetite...

This is a great restaurant to go to before or after a play at the Canyon Theatre. It is really nice inside, has great food, and fantastic service. They even have entertainment. When we were there a guy was playing his guitar, and it was quite enjoyable

This is a family business and they treat you like family when you dine hear! We enjoy an early dinner hear prior to seeing a show at the Canyon Theatre Guild or the Repertory East Playhouse, which are just a short walk down the street. The food is delicious. They get busy and the service is a little slower than other places. I consider this part of the ambiance of this restaurant though. A meal here is meant to be casually enjoyed. So, if you are going to see a show, make an earlier reservation and allow 1 1/2- 2 hrs to enjoy the dining experience. It's definitely worth it.

Great Mexican food and lots of steak items on the menu. Located within walking distance of the Theatre so suggest you do dinner below seeing the play. Kids menu is great. Excellent chips and salsa.

I visited El Trocadero on a Saturday for lunch. We had a large party but they were able to seat us promptly. The salsa and chips are yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed their tortilla soup. Others in our party raved about the enchiladas. We also had several kids in our party and their kids menu had a lot of choices for them. We had no problems finding parking on the street on a weekend during the day. We'll be back to try some other entrees.

I was very impressed with this restaurant. It is not "americanized" mexican food. When my enchiladas arrived, I was amazed that they tasted exactly how they would if I had got them in Mexico. Wonderful place, great service. My only complaint is the salsa, not spicy enough.

Pros: truely authentic

I was impressed with the menu, it offered many interesting items that sounded very good. However when the food arrived we were disappointed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.

This is the second time we've dined at El Trocadero. My husband had the flank steak and I had carne asada. Both were marvelous and we left completely stuffed with all of the trimmings (rice, beans, tortillas, guacamole, chips and dip). The margaritas are very refreshing; they have a good lime flavor that tastes like freshly squeezed lime juice was added. Our service this night was a bit off but our server confessed it was her first day on the job so I'm sure the service can only improve.

Pros: Margaritas, Steak, Atmosphere

.

My family discovered this gem during intermission a the Canyon Guild Theater. We managed a margarita in between acts and decided to come back for dinner soon.

The atmosphere is great and it's a relaxing place to enjoy a good, long meal. There were five of us for dinner and all but one was pleased with the meal choice. Food is more creative than your run-of-the-mill Mexican chain restaurant. A summer evening is the perfect time for this place. There is patio seating in front and out back. And it's the perfect place to meet before or after hitting the theatre.
