Wonderful, Warm and Inviting Caffe 5 Star Rating - World class

This is a wonderful Caffe. The food is great, their people provide timely service and the surroundings are warm and inviting. Given our demanding schedules, my wife and I eat out approximately 4-5 days a week...at least 1-2 times at Spiazzo Caffe. Their menu is diverse and offers many choices. If you are in the mood for flavorable pasta, salads, pizza, meat or fish dishes, this is the Caffe for you. We love it!!!

Pros: Wonderful, Warm and Inviting
Cons: None

"SERVICE TOO FAST" - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT 5 Star Rating - World class

In San Francisco it is really hard to find a nice italian restaurant that will serve you in a FAST and Timely manner. To the person that wrote the review about my Father in Law's restaurant and said that they "Re-heat" their food, your full of it. The chef/owner (my father in law) prepares the dinner courses from scratch, hes been there for a very long time, so i would think he knows what he's doing. Don't eat there if you don't like it, but notice, your the only one that said it was a "below average" restaurant. Maybe you just don't know the great tastes of GREAT italian food. The workers/servers work extremely hard to prepare a meal for you and your families so that you can enjoy it and leave completely satisfied, if you felt as though it was too fast of service (who ever complains about fast service?), maybe you should have opened your mouth then and there. That way the workers/owners can improve their performance to better suit you.

Pros: great food!
Cons: nothing.

Lack of Italian essence, overpowering ingredients 2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

My parents wanted to bring me somewhere special to eat for a break from college dining food, and they chose to go to West Portal to find a decent restaurant. We stumbled upon Spiazzo Caffe and decided to dine there for the evening. Right when we walked into the place, I could smell something fishy (not only was it the stench of seafood, but a hint of cleaning product was in the air as well). We took our seats at a table that seemed too small for four, and looked over the menu. Everything looked appetizing at the time (the antipasti's, pasta dishes, and main courses). The food that we ordered came surprisingly fast for the items listed, and it was a disappointing appearance and taste. Too much salty, garlic, and cream. Perhaps the pasta dishes would be different than the antipastos, but it was the same. It came too quick for the dish of its nature, and everyone at the table agreed to its poor taste. The main dishes finally came, but at that point, we had all lost our appetite. It seemed that the 'chefs' just pre-cooked the food and just assembled it all together when the order was placed. It was the fastest meal I have ever had at a restaurant, not only because the food came unusually fast, but also my family and I just wanted to leave as soon as possible. The items on the menu are not as delicious as they seem. I probably would have had a tastier meal if I stayed in my dorm and ate the cafeteria food instead. To anyone who's looking to have a classic Italian dinner, avoid Spiazzo's.

Our new local favorite! 5 Star Rating - World class

After moving to the neighborhood and trying a bunch of restaurants on West Portal, Spiazzo has quickly become our favorite. We've tried a variety of dishes and have never been disappointed. In addition to the food being delicious, the portion sizes are excellent -- there's plenty to share and we nearly always leave with leftovers. My boyfriend, who is a VERY picky eater, loves their minestrone. The yummy polenta appetizer is practically a meal in itself, and the pastas are fresh with something to be found for every palate. The prices are extremely reasonable (most entrees are around $10-15 and the wine list has many good yet affordable options) and their service has always been friendly and efficient without being overbearing. It's easy seating during the week but can get crowded on weekends. I just hope too many people don't find out about it! :)

Pros: Delicious food, Good value, Excellent service
Cons: Crowded on weekends

Nice Neighborhood Place for Tasty Italian Food 4 Star Rating - Very good

Went here with some friends on a friday night. We had no reservations but were sitted at an available table by the window. Very nice hostess. Service is almost too quick. Busser and wait staff cleared our table before we finished all our food. We felt a bit rush. Perhaps it was due to the number of people waiting to be sitted. We had the mussels, pork loin, and two pasta dishes. The portions are large enough to share. Staff is willing to split one order into two dishes for sharing. Food was very filling and satisfying. Kitchen does a good job with flavors and cook times. Nothing was overcooked and everything come out quickly. Desserts are also very good. Come here with a big appetite and you won't be disappointed. Good value for the quality.

Pros: Flavors, Portions, Value
Cons: Rushed, Parking
