We purchased a car from Made in Japan bought at auction and never smogged before selling it to us. We didn't find othis out until we received a call from them them about a month later.
Since they are an authorized smog station, we figured the logical thing to do was to have them smog the carand the issue would be resolved. But, they kept the car to for over 10 days, after promising that they would resolve the issue in a timely manner. They finally got the car to pass the smog inspection by rigging the vacuum hose system.
We found this out after the car continued to stall at idle. We took the car to a reputable mechanic and they found after testing the car that"they pulled a code #PO411, secondary air injection withincorrect flow." The reputable machanic noted that the secondary air injection system did not acheive a correct flowbecause they found "several broken vacuum hoses and a broken turbo recirculation valve" and they had to install a new valve among other issues that point to Made in Japan tampering with the car in an effort to pass a smog test.
The reputable mechanic noted that there was no way that these simple issues could be overlookedand that there was no intent to properly remedy the situation.
And on one phone conversation to inquire about the status of the car that the owner of Made In Japan mentioned that they were trying to "jimmy-jack" the car to get it to pass a smog test.
The reputable mechanic also noted that although the brake pads were new, that the rotors on the car were in very bad shape, and that we were sold a carfrom a mechanic/company that did not properly service the brake system.
We bought a vehicle from this company in good faiththinking that a mechanic would never sell us a product that was so dishonestly portrayed and serviced. We hope that no one considering purchasing a vehicle from Made in Japan will do so. We've learned the hard way!
