Spent a few hours at the Studio today with a couple of groups of Junior Girl Scouts. What a great job they did with the girls!!!! Kept them moving the entire time and providing words of encouragement all the way. Please see for yourself and go check out the Studio!!! I would highly recommend it!!

Who wants to pay for overpriced costumes, and get taught by high-school students???? Maybe you should ask the owner of Studio S who is so threatened by the competition that she or someone she paid placed a one star rating on Menlo Park Academy. As a parent, the first thing I look at is a website which speaks volumes about a company and Studio S is no exception. What a Joke! The website appears to made by a 5th grader at the local elementary school. The studio is even worse. The sound quality is horrible, the floor looks like it??s from the old Boston Garden and the studio is completely run down. By the way, please do not take your child out for a month because guess what, you will get hit with a ??Re-Registration Fee?. God forbid the owner not put the pressure on the staff to get more and more money. The final piece of advice I can give you, please whatever you do, do not buy the costumes that were made by children in a third world country, bought by Studio S ??who probably paid at the most $30.00 for them? and pay three times the price. The only positive thing I will say is that the staff is very cheerful. Then again, every high-school student needs a job. Happy Tapping!!

I saw this studio at a convention once. I felt bad for the dancers there because compared to all of the other studios they looked like they were making fools out of themselves. That night I went home and did some research on the studio and they have a video on their homepage, I was shocked at what I had seen the dancers were doing very technical moves, but was doing them the worst way possible AND THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO GET INJURED. Then the second day of the convention I went back and saw the owner of the studio gossiping about the other dancers and how that her studio was the best and should be give all of the scholarships. I don't think this review will really help because i don't have any inside on the studio, but I could tell that it does not teach you good sportsmanship.

Now I cant give the full dish, because I don't actuallly attend the studio, but my sister-in-law sends her children to STudio S, so I've observed some things here and there when I've taken my niece to classes. First of all, I think there is a really nice positive atmosphere at the studio, the dancers have fun and encourage each other; the community is definately a healthy, supportive one. However, we need to be honest. The dance instruction lacks technique and modern styles so children aren't learning as much as they could elsewhere. I've looked around at other studios in the Bay Area and the more competitive ones make a bigger effort to bring in choreographers and other styles so that the children can experience versatile dancing. A friend of mine sent her two daughters there for many years and then when she moved them to another studio, there was a massive improvement in the quality of their dancing, because they had to remember choreography quickly, and work hard on their technique to catch up to the other girls. I have to disagree with those comments about the competitive studios being "mean". In fact, by being a competitive studio, you are teaching children how to have good sportsmanship and be responsible at an early age. The dancers that compete are very supportive and helpful to each other backstage ( which I noticed when I watched MY daughter compete for the first time). You hear a bunch of "Great Job!"s.. and... " Thank you! Good Luck!" . Plus it's a great way to make friends between studios and learn what it takes to be on a team. STudio S is a great place to dance for recreation.. (if you dont mind the high prices, and the lack of cleanliness) But if you're considering serious dancing for your son/daughter, take my advice and DONT send your children to STudio S Broadway. Take a look at what else is out there! Good Luck!

This studio is horrible. The classes never start on time and the owner is always insulting the dancers. My daughter went here and nothing was ever right. The owner asks for way to much money and uses the extra to pay for her own kids. I would never go here because it is an unorganized mess, unprofessional, and teaches every dancer how not to dance.

I have to disagree with all of the bad reviews. I am in the top of the classes and have been dancing here for since i was 2 years old. Many of the dancers that are on So You Think You Can Dance came or danced with the students at Studio S. The main teacher is an amazing dancer when u get into the more advanced classes you see that she is dancing with you instead of talking in class. The prices make a lot of since, they aren't over priced at all and in all of the classes you really truly get better. Everyone is so nice and very good at dancing. They also feel like family and they are the nicest studio i have been to. I have tried all the studios that compete but they are all mean when u are dancing and you all have to look the same. Here at Studio S you get to express your feelings and emotions in your dance. I love this studio and I hope you get the chance to come to Studio S and try it out and get to love the studio like i do.

Studio S has a lovely staff who are filled with enthusiasm and care for the students. They truly dedicate themselves to the studio and their dancing. As a parent of a young Studio S student, I admire the work ethic that these young dancers practice on a daily basis. Keep up the good work dancers and don't let these negative comments from other people bring you down! Remember: you are all strong and talented and nothing can stop you from achieving you dreams. Reach for the stars!!

I am so impressed with Studio S Broadway. After reading so many
wonderful reviews about Studio S Broadway I had to try it out. I love
it and so do my girls. The teachers really care about the students and
their families. The director is a professional in every way. She obviously
loves to dance and teach her students. What energy! The older girls in the studio
are great dancers and perfect role models for the younger kids. I found
this dance studio to be a very clean and organized atmosphere. I see
the dancers doing homework and making friends between classes. As a mom,
I only want the best for my kids and I have found it here. I love to see
them smile when I pick them up. Looks like we are going to be around
for a long time.

This studio is amazing! I have never felt so welcome anywhere in my life. The director and main choreographer is such a great teacher. She puts so much time and effort into these kids and it is much appreciated. Not to mention she is a phenomenal dancer and choreographer!!! As for other teachers and staff...AMAZING! All of the teachers are over 18!! and the assistants are great too. I learn so much when I am in a class at Studio S. I feel like Studio S is a very, very professional studio that offers amazing dance lessons. I have been involved with Studio S for numerous years and I can say that I have never seen such a dedicated group of kids. Studio S really raises these kids to be well rounded and ready for the dance world. This studio really makes everyone feel like a winner and I am so proud to say that I dance at Studio S. If you are looking for a dance studio, Studio S is well worth looking into...

Studio S is the BEST!!! :)

To All of those who wrote the negative comments...
I have been a dancer at Studio S since the young age of 2 years old. I did begin assisting tap classes at the Studio at 11 years old. The studio is a family oriented place where individual style is valued. Also, it is an environment for children to learn to be responsible, hence the assistant teachers beginning at young ages. I learned several skills about responsibility, kindness, attention to detail, and money management at a young age simply because I had a job where those skills were mandatory.
As for dancing at the level of So You Think You Can Dance, that is a very very small percentage of the world that can dance that well. Nick Lazzarini, the first winner of So You Think You Can Dance, has attended several classes with my age group of students at Studio S, and we have danced right along side of him. Perhaps the choreographer is bringing that level of dance to our studio, but those of you who cannot see it must not have had the heart and dedication required to execute the level of performance.
As for those of you mentioning the lack of professionalism and the onset of strict policies, open your eyes. This is the real world. There are rules and regulations everywhere that you go. You can choose to obey them, or not. If you are in a professional company, such as Studio S, you should understand the level of commitment required to become the best dancer you can be. This means following the rules of the choreographer and staying up until the late hours of the night in order to perfect your triple pirouette or your switch-leap or your triple toe jump. I have danced professionally at Studio S for private company shows as well as production Christmas shows at the mall.
As for the money involved at the Studio, it is expensive. However, if you research other studios, you will find that the studios are competitive. Our studio feels that this is an unnecessary sum of money to pay for a judge to tell us that we are good. We know we dance well, and if you need someone to tell you that, then ask me...I will let you know that you are a good dancer!
The faculty is awesome at the Studio. The teachers are friendly and get along well with each other. The studio is a clean environment because it is cleaned EVERYDAY! We allow our students to bring their lunch or dinner with them and eat it at the tables in the waiting room in order to keep their energy for the dancing! You will not find other studios who allow their students to grab a bite to eat or do their homework inbetween class times. As for the location of the studio, it is located in the heart of downtown redwood city, and I could not think of a place that would be more fun to be located! People walk by all day and look into the window and admire our dancing. Friendly faces all day long, what could be better? However, we cannot help that homeless people live in redwood city as well. We keep the studio safe, and if someone looks suspicious, we take care of the situation.
Rearranging schedules is something that is mandatory to show your dedication. If you expect to dance professionally, it needs to become a priority. You will need to make sacrifices for dance no matter where you go.
I am on a dance team, dancing at the collegiate level with all my training from Studio S. I have realized how fortunate and priviledged I was to have danced at the Studio for so long! It made me the dancer I am. The Studio is a great place, a fun place, a learning environment, and a friendly place. Try it out for yourselves and don't listen to the bitter people who have left negative comments.

Dance is a great way to express yourself, and I hope you will not be discouraged by the comments below. I have had many great years at the Studio.
Have a good day, and remember, a day without dance is a day wasted!

Studio S Broadway is absolutely dispicable. From experience with this studio I personally as well as many others have felt cheated out of my money, taken advantage of, innapropriately manipulated, and forced into ucomfortable situations. In many cases the main director, (who didn't do much directing) guilted her dancers into unwanted positions such as having to reschedule a family vacation because of her expectations and needs. She also pryed her way into personal family buisness and ended up causing much unwanted drama within the studio. Also, when attending Sudio S you are under strict restrictions from other environments of dancing such as any conventions or camps that the director has not approved. Each and every class is excrutiatingly overpriced for the amount of professionalism and technique provided. The staff, faucility, and location are all horrendous. Teachers starting at the age of 12, the studio being extremely unclean and germ infested, and the location of the studio being in an unsafe environment located downtown redwood city in the midst of many hobos. The director of the studio is also extremely unrespectful of your time and money. The hours are unrealisticly late, and 99.9% of the time she is late to classes and solos, which of course are overly high priced especially when all she does is gossip. The list goes on and on, but overall, i definately reccomend you NOT send your son/daughter to this studio.

i have been dancing at studio s for about 7 years and i have enjoyed every year of it. yes, the prices might be unresonable lilke $70 per half and hour, not even a piano lesson is that much. but here your child could be a unique tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop dancer. every one in the studio is like a family. you could start dancing at the age of 2 and up. studio s isnt a boring competitive studio. its a fun entertainment company.

I have been dancing since I was 2 years old and I??ve tried just about every studio around Redwood City including Menlo Park Academy,Dance Mode and more but the studio that tops them all is Studio S. The very negative review under me is completely wrong. Their teachers are very professional and they have a lot to teach. Mr. Negative anonymous is right about one thing: you wouldn??t see them on So You Think You Can Dance... in the beginning of the show, when they are showing all the horrible dancers. I think the dancers who are in the higher level classes are completely capable of being on that show and being in the top 10! They have been in business for almost 30 years now. The main teacher of the highest levels does dance. In fact, she is in the show that is going on right now. She has a tap solo. Production is not the highest level of dance you can reach at studio S. There is always something to learn or improve in the higher classes. I feel really sorry for the negative anonymous person and their children because I??m only a teen and I have more maturity than they do. Please do not listen to this person. Studio S is a great studio to take your children. I recommend it over all other studios in the area.

The truth about Studio S Broadway should be told?.if you want a place for your child to find the love of dance, to make great friends, to feel the family atmosphere that makes them and you feel safe?.this is where you need to go. From very young children to those young at heart Studio S is the perfect place to dance, and perform. Studio S trained dance teachers are excellent with children, and with the instruction of dance.

The people running this school are talented, experienced and dedicated to making sure your child, you and your family are a part of a wonderful safe, rewarding experience.
Care is put into each class and each student is treated as an individual.

You can look and look for the right place for your child.... I walked in and watched the classes and I knew this was the perfect place, dance instruction, care, and family ?.that is what I want for my children! I was also impressed with the older students at the school and how wonderfully they danced and how great the teenagers are with the younger kids, what great roll models for my little ones!

Give this Studio a try?you will not be disappointed!

I have been a dancer at Studio S Broadway Academy of Dance for 14 years. This place has brought not only dance, but a great sense of community into my life. Unlike other dance academies' , This studio DOES NOT make you wear a certain outfit in classes, letting you express you own creativity though your clothes as well as dance. The teachers are people just like you and I who have attend Studio S for years and are personally chosen by the choreographer of the studio. The small class sizes allow you to meet people easily and make new friends though a common skill, dance. Many of my friends that I have meet outside of Studio S have joined recently, and they fell in love with it. You get an amazing experience and the confidence that being who you want to be, even in structured dance classes, is not only OK, but is encouraged.

If you are looking for a place to get some quick exercise, and do not care about paying a large sum of money for it, then this is the place for you. However, if you or your child is truly interested in dance, I would NOT recommend Studio S.The beginner classes are ok, except for the fact that they are taught by teachers who do NOT have PROFESSIONAL training. My daughter reached production and the highest levels of dance at Studio S, and once you reach it, you see how truly unprofessional Studio S is. Dancers are not taught proper techniques on how to warm up or PREVENT INJURY. The main teacher of the highest level classes does not even dance herself; instead she spends most of the class time (your money time) sitting down and gossiping. The constant chatter, and brief time actually spent dancing, resulted in many injuries for many students at Studio S (ankle, lower back, knees, shoulders, hamstring), because they would warm up, then cool down while they talked your money away, and then suddenly dance again, which is of course bad for your muscles. Technique is also very weak, and styles are out of date (for example, if you were to watch So You Think You Can Dance- you will not see the same level of skill at Studio S). The main teacher of the highest classes is also is known for stirring trouble. Talk to anyone who has left Studio S or is currently the highest level there- everyone eventually quits or leaves Studio S because of her. She can be emotionally abusive to young girls, and even started a rumor that one of her teachers was having an affair with one of the dancers when she was not. That teacher left, as did many of her dancers, who were disgusted with the extent of the manipulation that occurs, when all these girls (and few guys) want to do is dance. I hate to seem so negative, but in all honesty, I want the truth to be told so that people can see what is happening behind closed doors. So many people, including myself, spent so much money, time, and energy on Studio S because their negative qualities are hidden at first. However, it is only a matter of time before everyone, and I truly mean EVERYONE, in the highest level of classes see the extent of manipulation and lack of professionalism and leave. So save yourself the trouble, do some research, and try to find a professional dance company. I believe Menlo Park has some good ones. Good luck on your search, and I hope this helps!

This dance studio has excellent teachers that are full of energy. The dancers are great. From beginners to the big shots they all perform like it's a Broadway show. Parents can even watch class. Actually, parents take class too. Very impressive! I can't imagine bringing my children anywhere else.
