I've known Charlotte Bell for more than seven years now, and I can confidently say that she is the most dedicated trainer and animal rescue advocate I've ever met. I know this from experience: when she heard that our dog Lucy needed to be kept on our small back patio (she doesn't get along with our three indoor cats) and had become unhappy and overweight, Charlotte drove all the way from her location in Manhattan Beach to our home in Moorpark to get her. Since then, she's kept Lucy free-of-charge, and has devoted her spare moments to exercising, training, and socializing her at South Bay Doggie, so that Lucy's weight has reduced steadily and her overall health has improved noticeably. Because our household will probably never be suitable for Lucy, we've given the go-ahead to finding her a new home, and Charlotte has begun to apply her dedication to helping with this project, as well. I can't think of anyone else who would go such a 'distance' to help so much!

I been familiar with South Bay Doggie Day Care since its inception. My impression had always been that dogs are exceptionally well cared for and owner Charlotte Bell bends over backwards to accomodate her clients. The place is immaculate and the dogs are happy. But I never really knew how great SBDDC was until I needed its services.

Last year, my ex had to surrender her canine-aggressive huskie mix, and Charlotte was willing to help. Not only did she adjust her schedule to take on a difficult dog, she worked miracles with him. By the end of 4 months, this dog was completely socialized, happy and obedient. That's all due to Charlotte, who truly loves her work.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE QUESTIONABLE NEGATIVE COMMENTS! They make no sense! Charlotte Bell is a brilliant and caring dog expert and she runs an exemplary business.

I've been taking my dog to South Bay Doggie for almost 4 years, and it has been the most wonderful experience I could imagine for my dog. Being a rescue dog with a horrible history, I'm very protective of him and selective of who I am willing to leave him with. I've tried other places and trust no one other than South Bay Doggie to care for my boy. He's gone from being an untrusting freaked out dog, to one to loves other dogs, has drastically improved social skills with people, and LOVES to see Charlotte (the owner) every time we go. I can relax while I'm away from him, knowing that he's in safe, capable, loving hands. And if I get paranoid and call to check up on him, she'll gladly tell me how he's doing, and even what he's doing at the time. Even when he used to hide out in a crate in the beginning, she was honest with me and helped me work with him, and over time he's learned how to, and to love, to play with other dogs. He no longer hides in crates and he comes home much more tired (in a good way because he's had fun!). I would, and do, recommend South Bay Doggie Day Care!

My dogs have been going to SBDDC for 9 years. They love it there. Charlotte is a very compassionate and caring person and the dogs know that and are always anxious to see her. The place is clean and is divided in sections for small and large dogs. Many dogs are there 5 days a week and I've seen them arrive in the mornings. They can't wait to get inside! The price is reasonable.I highly recommend SBDDC!

This is a wonderful place for your dog! Charlotte loves dogs and really takes the time to make certain they are individually cared for. When our dog was a puppy we went to her for help with training. Now, when we take her board, Charlotte actually works with her to ensure she is well behaved. The facility is not large, so you know your baby is getting lots of attention and love! Our dog loves going there and playing with others. . I travel A LOT and have had to drop our dog off at the last minute or unexpectedly. I have NEVER seen the dog area in any condition other that pristine. Yes, it is true the large dogs are separated from the smaller ones. No matter how many animals are there they are all well behaved. I am not certain if the previous reviewer understands that they dogs naturally bark when someone enters the area. I have NEVER heard anyone at the facility raise their voice! But, they are asked to be quiet. That is actually a courtesy for the surrounding homes and businesses. I would encourage you to go and look for yourself.

I??ve had repeated occasion to drop in unexpectedly at South Bay Doggie Day Care (I??m a volunteer with a local rescue group, and Charlotte Bell, SBDDC??s owner, kindly makes herself available to help us train/rehabilitate problem dogs) so I have a pretty good sense of what this boarding/daycare facility is really like. Probably the best indication of the quality of the care is the fact that many of the dogs are ??regulars,? dogs whose owners unhesitatingly bring them there day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year! Even more convincing than owner satisfaction is seeing the real clients ?? the dogs ?? vote with their paws. My visits have coincided with the arrival of many of them, and they are invariably glad to see Charlotte and eager to get into one of the open runs with the other dogs.
Having been at SBDDC under a variety of circumstances, I can also speak to a matter which concerns us humans a lot more than it does the dogs: cleanliness. Anyone whose household is dog-intensive knows how hard it is to deal with the never-ending supply of hair, and some of us have to deal with odor as well. By a continuous clean-up process SBDDC manages to keep the place not just sanitary but wholesome ? and does so without resorting to products which smell a lot worse than dogs do. Much more important, I??m not aware of their having been plagued with any of the outbreaks of infectious disease or parasites so common at shelters and other multi-dog facilities. If keeping your dog healthy and happy is your goal, South Bay Doggie Day Care is a good way to meet it.
Of course dog owners have different styles of controlling their animals, just as dogs react differently with their own family than with outsiders, so there is a wide variety of options available to those who cannot keep their dog at home with someone the animal knows. My suggestion is that you visit the prospective venue in advance. If you see something that concerns you, ask about it beforehand (e.g., ??That dog over there is dirty ?? is my dog likely to come home with dirt on his legs??); if there is some control method you do/don??t want used on your pet, say so (e.g., ??I see a dog wearing a chain collar ?? can you guarantee that no such collar will be put on my dog??). If the replies are unsatisfactory you can keep looking until you find a facility whose methods more nearly match your own. As for me personally, after benefiting from Charlotte??s help with over a dozen foster dogs, and seeing her genuine affection for two my own beloveds, I would choose South Bay Doggie Day Care in a heartbeat.

Whomever wrote the review below seems to have been at a different place other than the South Bay Doggie Day Care that we know and LOVE. Not only is the proprietor of the facility a benevolent trainer, who we have worked with for several years, but she is a gracious, loving and giving caregiver. She is this way with people and with the dogs. She has trained many of our dogs and helped us tremendously and I have never heard her raise her voice except in a firm tone to keep the dogs in line. The writer of that review is not very educated where it comes to dogs and training. The prong collar to which this person refers does not DIG into the neck of the dog. Perhaps their "therapy" dog was not as easy to handle as they would like to believe. Nevertheless, it also seems as though they have a misguided impression of what boarding means. It doesn't mean that the facility is responsible for keeping your dog clean...they are in a free cage area which is much larger than you suggest and they don't have pens....so perhaps you were somewhere else. They have blankets and beds and they separate the big dogs from the little ones. I have never seen a fight there and her dogs are very well behaved in this environment. Perhaps your dog is not used to being with other dogs and caused issues, I don't know ...but I do know that slandering this facility unfair. There are many, many of us who know it well for years and your evaluation is absolutely wrong. The person who wrote the review below has no idea what it takes to run a facility and a squirt bottle is the approved method to get dogs to stop barking. I think you'll find that Cesar Milan is far "tougher" with his dogs than the proprietor of this wonderful facility.
