Book Pasages has some of the most impressive author appearances of any bookstore in the USA. Between their San Francisco Embarcadero and their Corte Madera locations, anyone who has written an interesting book is likely to show up for a talk/book signing -from former Presidents to actors, scientists, and mystics. They sponsor great writing classes and workshops as well as book groups. Check out Elaine's picks - this is a family owned bookstore where people really love books and writing. The food is good too.

Book passage is an okay book store. The selection really isn't that great. They place needs to open some windows or get some better air going, because it's always stuffy and musty. The people working there aren't helpful at all. The little cafe part has a limited menu that isn't very good. I wish I liked it as much as everyone else, but I just don't see the charm in the place. The only thing that makes them that different is they are constantly getting a lot of high profiile authors, politicians and celebrities in to talk about their books.

This is a cute book store tucked out of the way. First--parking is really bad. It shares this tiny little lot with like 10 other businesses. What I find so amazing and unique about this bookstore is how they can get such big names to come and give talks. I don't know how they manage it. I've seen Jamie Lee Curtis and President Clinton here. The cafe though, isn't anything to write home about. I think it needs a menu update! The customer service is pretty bad for the whole store.

This great little find is almost like a treasure island. It wraps around and has 2 sections that are connected, but you have to walk outside to get to the 2nd part. They have a great little cafe that sells prepared food-yummy and coffee and my favorite-mighty leaf tea. One of the delights of this store is the events that they have for the public, book signings and plenty of discussion groups about books. They have a nice nook in the back specifically designated for these events and it makes for a very wonderful atmosphere.
