i am a student here in costa mesa ca. dont go as a customer or student  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

i am i student here at paul mitchell. i was so excited to go here before it started. i thought it would be great! now that i am almost finished my experiance here is as follows:if you are going here to get your hair cut is really is luck and a 50 50 chance of your hair looking good. i go to night school which is 20 hours a week. before students go out on the floor they are in the class room for 6 weeks! thats not long considering no one has ever touched hair before this. here is an interesting fact. each student practices about 6 different styles of a cut one time only before trying it out on customers! so on time praciced trims. one time practiced layers ect. now color... before a student trys it on a client they only use shaving cream! never real color so you really are practice.

as for being a strudent there. you learn nothing you need to know afor state boards. they infridge on student labor laws. when u see students out on the floor doing hair they are told to be there and do it or go home. the school makes a profit off hair services and students pay 18000.00 to go there. they also tell you to clean or go home(if you go home you dont get hours clocked in and you need 1600 hrs to get a licene)
they are shorted staffed.
the staff is young and most teachers are 21 or 22 and just finised school themselves. it would be like going to high school and graduating them going back to teach other students a few weeks later!
teachers belittle students, play favorites, and talk behind students back with other students
there is a day maker who is supposed to help students. i saw him once. in core(first 6 weeks)
you park on the street as there is no student parking, and there is no security guard ethior. hmmm a school campus and no security guard!
you do not learn anything else at this scool than you would at any other school. SAVE YOUR MONEY and go to school somewhere that is more established and organized!

PROS: you can say you went to paul mitchell the school. good speakers
CONS: unskilled poorly trained unorganized staff and addministration

OKay instruction  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

If you are considering going to school here (for the skin academy, is what i'm speaking of) I would think again. Awful stateboard instruction, they talk up their program, but you will be paying for the name and that is all. The instrcutors play favorites and constantly favor those who they love. I personally went here and got my license on the first try at state board, but only because i had previous training. I wouldn't recommend going here. Take it from me, there are many other great schools with amazing education. Look around before choosing.

PROS: great equipment and clean
CONS: instrcutors create drama, high cost, horrible state board instrc.

The Newest Coolest Styles. Bargain Prices  4 Star Rating - Very good

Paul Mitchell The School is located in Costa Mesa corner or Baker and Harbor. It is a school for hair stylists and make up artists.
The students here are really cool! They look a little intimidating at first. There are a lot of punk rockers and goth kids at the school, but they are great at what they do. There are two phases to the school. Phase 1 offers you the cheapest price at only $10 a hair cut and $20 for color or highlghts. The students in Phase 1 are beginners and tend to take a little longer than usual. Don't be scared though, a teacher is always over looking any cut or color to make sure it is done right.
Phase 2 is about $5.00 more but these kids are ready to go out into the hair stylinh business, most only have a couple hundred hours to put in and they will graduate. They really know what they are doing by the time they hit phase 2 and it is deffinately faster service.
If you are looking for a great place for a cool up do, something different, these kids love to CREATE new styles so give them a shot.
They use nothing but Paul Mitchell products so you know you are getting the best.

If you have time, definitely check them out.  5 Star Rating - World class

Because I'm a girl who loves her long hair, it takes Paul Mitchell students longer to work on me than other people... but for the price, service and quality results I get at the end of the day, I think it's well worth it. Appointments should be called in roughly a week in advance; otherwise, no problems encountered. Recommended!

Love them!  4 Star Rating - Very good

They did an awesome job on my hair! My stylist was Starr, she rocks! They have a mandatory 5-minute scalp massage, which is just wonderful. If they don't give it to you, your haircut is free! There was no "feeling" that I was within a school and being worked on by a student. They are all very professional (mine even had her own business cards) and they all seemed very caring and would comment on my hair as I was walking around/checking out...I am definitely going here from now on for all my hair services!

PROS: Fast service, friendly atmosphere
CONS:

long wait, good cut 4 Star Rating - Very good

I would've been happier if they didnt have me wait for over 30 min beyond my appointment time for my appointment to start.
I got a great cut by alex.. but he's graduating in january, so I'll probably never see him again.
and for 15 bucks for a Level 2 student to do your hair.... I didn't see anyone who was walking out unhappy.

Pros: cheap, great work, good location
Cons: you're not paying for all the niceties of a salon.
