This is Filiz Shakir, the mother of Alia, This letter also contains the experiences of my daughter and of myself during the process of choosing and applying her course the subsequent times that she has been on the course. What I am about to write may also describe the experiences of many students in America today and highlight the problems within the system of further education.
It is very important that I should say this as well. With this complaint I am hoping to become a voice for many students not just enrolled to your school but to many other training schools who experienced similar situations. Also by this letter, I am informing you that I am opening a small claim case and demanding all the payments we made including my daughters additional expenses she incurred. The core of my complaint is not just about being misguided, mislead but most importantly the emotional depression this causes to the students. As it is stated above, my main complaint along with the financial loss is the emotional depression and the end result of feeling worthless, useless not just by being persuaded and misguided to enroll on your training program but also comparing herself with the hundreds of other student who intentionally enrolled on your program based on their existing skills and interests who went on to graduate. This is a horrible feeling and while I am helping my daughter to overcome her emotional depression caused by being persuaded to enroll on a program outside of her skills and interest but also by battling with all these legal procedures. But I am extremely determined that I will make this public so that others who shared similar experiences and are in a similar situation can also be encouraged and educated. As of today since enrolling the only thing my daughter gained is lack of confidence, loss of strength and time loss (which is just as important) and the feeling of her dreams being shattered along with unpaid medical bills and student loan which have being reflected in her credit history pulling her to a deeper hole and increasing her anxiety attacks she battles on daily basis. My daughter was provided with a single uniform as were the others. Imagine a school where students deal with coloring, cutting and styling and are given only a single set of uniforms during their entire almost year long training while paying over $20,000 for that trainingWhat my daughter really did in your school was raise funds for the school

Like the ladies before me, AVOID the school for a cheap cut. Staff was snobby, stylist/supervisors were vacant (had to repeat myself 3-4 times to both), cut took nearly two hours (I've short hair), more was cut every time the stylist got annoyed, now look like a soccer mom (I'm 25), and they still charged! Stay away women! Go to the JCCC school. They're half the price, friendly, and always do a good job.

I also went to PMTS in Chicago. Terrible experience but I couldn??t afford to transfer. Lots of $$$ The learning leaders play favourites on every level and are no help with all the drama. They give terrible state board instruction. I never missed a day and still struggled with the board testing. I heard the same from friends I made at the school. We are unanimous that we would not send any one to this PMTS. I don??t know about other PM schools, but this one is a big rip-off.

I couldn??t wait to go to PM in downtown Chicago last year 2010. WHAT A MISTAKE! The teachers are not qualified and the whole school is really unorganized. They put on a good front and the school looks glam, but you really don??t get anywhere with the leaders. If my class mates or I had a problem, we all got sent from leader to leader. They don??t help if someone is rude or talking trash, they just tell you to work it out yourself. I finally transferred to a different school last month, it starts with ??A? and it was the best decision I could have made. Don??t waste your money at PM.

My daughter will be finished with Paul Mitchell, Rexburg this week, and Graduating in a couple weeks. Her experience has been nothing but Positive at this school. It's a fairly new facility, and radiates nothing but positive. She's sad to be leaving! She has taken her Practical already and had no problem passing, and will take her written next week. Each time I have gone in to the school for services, I have always been satisfied with the outcome. I would highly recommend Paul Mitchell Rexburg if your looking for a school.
There are many Programs you can get involved with that are not required. If you take advantage of these, you will get that much more out of the Experience. I would also highly recommend Caper and Signature, both conventions held in Las Vegas. In attending these, she has been exposed to a larger part of the Industry, and have given her insite to achieving higher goals. She is currently finishing up requirements for the Deans list. If you have a great attitude, and work hard, you'll be happy with your success!

I am a student at PMTS Huntsville (Madison, AL). I see all these negative reviews mostly coming from California. I have NOT heard one thing negative about the school I go to (either customer or student). If you are pursuing a career in cosmetology, I would suggest not only a tour but ask if you can "sit in" for a day in a CORE class that has just started, because it gives you the opportunity to mingle with the student body as a whole, and feel out the CORE Learning Leader. Remember...i opinions are opinions... check it out on your own.

Paul Mitchell School is really bad..They are not organized. I went there for hair color. They messed up my hair and asked me to come the next day for Re-Do and I have to pay for that, even though it was not my fault. I did pay and they messed up again and then they told me to come the next day and unfortunately I had to go out of the town and than they told me to come a week later for the re-do. On the day of my appointment this new lady which calls herself the observer said that they cannot give me service for re-do and I have to pay the whole amount againg..Isn't that suckkkkkssss...I am so disappointed with them. If a customer is respecting tehir view and paying three times for the same service and for their fault..How can they say that since it's the fourth time they cannot fix it and pay again...NO ONE SHOULD GO TO PAUL MITCHELL SCHOOL FOR HAIR COLOR OR CUT AT 1303 SW 107 Ave MIAMI, FLORIDA 33174..NOT THE STUDENTS BUT THE OBSERVER SUCKS....It's not the student fault when they mess up..all student's in all school do but IN NO SCHOOL THE OBSERVER SAYS THEY WILL NOT GET IT FIXED UNTIL PAY THE FULL AMOUNT AGAIN...SO THE ADVICE IS NO NO NO..DON'T GO

I have never had my hair done before so I was told I had "Virgin" hair and it would be easy for them to do anything to my hair because it was so pure. My hair is a medium brown naturally. I went in at 6 pm and wanted to get my hair collored to a verry dark brown and blond on the sides, trimmed and some straight across bangs. I was told that everything should be anywhere between $50 no more than $70 and that what I wanted would be real easy to do. The teacher is the one that told me the color that they were mixing would be a verry dark brown maybe with a little red tint to it. I said ok and trusted they knew what they were doing. For the blond he said to get a bleach that was not that strong and when another instructor seen he ordered the students to get a stronger color and said that is obvious it is not working. Meanwhile the dye can only be mixed and sitting in the bowl for 35 min before it goes bad and they have to make some new dye, the girls were to busy talking to eachother that the dye went bad and they had to get rid of it and make more and I GOT CHARGED FOR IT! . 4 Hrs later they are washing my hair and telling me that there is no time to cut my hair, Im a verry understanding person so I said it was ok and agreed to come back some other time. They asked me to pay before I even seen the outcome of it and it toatled to $72 (NO HAIR CUT). After I payed while the teacher was blowdrying my hair he told me there was no time to even finish that! I was sent out into the cold at 10:20 with wet hair and couldnt even tell what color it was! Next morning i woke up and my hair is Bright burgendy and Orange! I called to complain and was told that the persone incharge of all the redues will call me the next day, he never called, I called again and was told he is in the class and would call as soon as he was done, NEVER CALLED! Now im scrued with discusting hair and am going to go to walmart and buy the dye myself tomarrow

Horrible experience my time line is as follows.
The stylist sectioned my dry, unwashed hair with clips and said before she could proceed she had to have the instructor check it. The instructor came out and told her to wash it and then section and roll.
After rinsing the neutralizer the student reached for the shampoo and the instructor told her no shampoo, so she reached for the conditioner and he instructor told her no conditioner. A student should know you can not use anything for a least 48 hrs after a perm. That is hair 101, so she proceeds to cut my hair. My hair was so damaged that before I even left the chair I voiced my concerns. The instructor said quite rudely "Well your hair wasn't in the best shape when you came in".
My question is then why was it permed. Two weeks later my hair is all uneven and there is still breakage and small clumps fall out whether it is dry or wet.

Bad place to go.

I go to Paul Mitchell the School Costa Mesa and am transferring ASAP to a different school. $20,000 dollars for a Name? No thanks, i'd rather have a good education..I have attended for about 5 months and have had over 5 horrible experiences. I have confronted all people necessary and did not receive one apology. Defensiveness and "agree to disagree" is all i have gotten. Most of the Learning leaders(teachers) are not there for the right reason..all they care about is money. They will lie cheat and steal in order to get a couple dollars.. they dont care about quality of hair services or us students actually learning. The learning leaders at this school also play favorites and if you are not a favorite..(which it is hard to be..each one only has about 2) prepare your self for hell. It honestly reminded me of a teenage movie where they put you through tons of crap and who ever sucks up the most and for the longest becomes their favorite. So if your planning on attending..get ready to suck up and get ready to get shut down.
They break MANY state board rules and regulations..they dont know how to problem solve.. and they make rules without thinking them through. They are very dishonest and shady and I would not recommend this school to anyone. the owners of the schools its self are one of the only good things. Winn Claybaugh, John Paul, and Angus Mitchell give back to the community and have good intentions. I have faith that other paul mitchell schools are a positive place.. but as for PMTS Costa Mesa...it was the worst 5 months of my life. If you are looking for cosmetology schools in this area I'd check out Tony n guy, or Vidal Sassoon. i've heard good things about both!

Good luck

OMG!!!!! To all you girls out there, let me tell you I had the worst experience of my life at Paul Mitchell the School in Sherman Oaks... The saying you get what you pay for really fits the bad job they did on my hair, for a few extra $ I should have gone and had my hair done professionally. These people are dishonest and unprofessional the teachers and supervisors make you feel like your getting it done for free; they treat you like they are doing you a favor, but in reality your doing them a favor by even coming in. They mumble behind your back and yes they practically laugh in your face, you can't put a price on good looking hair my suggestion is go to a salon where they know what they are doing! I would rather walk with 10 inches of dark roots before I ever give my money to these people again.. You know who you are Alicia from chicago and Jason the "Teacher" lol.. My dogs would have done a better job!!! Thanks for nothing...... :(

It was my dream to attend this very prestigious school. The name says it all. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Teachers play favorites. Students are sent home on purpose. You are not on campus, you don't get hours. Some students drove from Riverside to the San Fernando Valley and they were being sent home for not bring in a hair brush or curler. You could not borrow one, you had to go home and get it. They make their money on the tail end of the student loans. By the time you graduate, you can owe as much as $10,000 more. You don't learn enough to pass the State Boards. You get the nice name on your certificate, but you don't learn enough to get it. Look else where. I regretted my choice to attend this school. I am very disappointed.

I am a student at PMTS and am about to graduate. My experience as a client and a future professional, have been nothing but wonderful! The teachers are on target, patient, and CARING, and us students, well there are those of us who CARE, TRY, and put everything in us to make sure you have a great experience. If you have not been to the school, I suggest you try it out and see for yourself. Some people are just bitter. If you are not comfortable with someone who may have just started, request phase two. But I will say, if you give attitude or serious negativety to a future professional, you are setting yourself up for failure. We want a good experience just as bad as you do! Some come see us. Learn for yourself. I know that I have many clients following me to the salon after I graduate. You may end up being one of them :-)
I hope you have a wonderful experience! And remember, you get what you give.

I've been getting my hair done a t Paul Mitchell for a couple years now. I have only had one negative experience and that was with a Phase 1 student. I was actually in tears so while I still had to pay for the cut, they did offer to let me come in later in the week to have a Phase 2 student give me a fix it cut. Other than that, I have always left happy. Some students take longer than others so I have been stuck in the salon all day while other times I'm in and out in a couple of hours but I think it's worth the price. I'm sad to see the reviews that say the school doesn't prepare them for the state boards but I go there because supposedly, Paul Mitchell teaches the students the most up to date hair cuts and color techniques.

I went to the school to have my roots touched up and left in tears. The 'teacher' who was a wicked older ragged , cigarette smelling lady yelled at me and told me if i didnt' stop crying they would not correct the mistake...i went in with my color a beachy blonde and she had toned it to a dull grey ugly color...i was treated poorly. I didn't get mad at the student, i could tell she felt awful. It was her superior, unclassy teacher who was so abrasive, I made a complaint to her supposed boss. The still charged me for what took four hours or torture. I would not recommend anyone go here ever ...if you aren't happy , they will basically laugh in your face....like if you care so much, then why aren't you at a real salon....it is not worth saving the money...the disaster color cost me almost one hundred dollars....

i am i student here at paul mitchell. i was so excited to go here before it started. i thought it would be great! now that i am almost finished my experiance here is as follows:if you are going here to get your hair cut is really is luck and a 50 50 chance of your hair looking good. i go to night school which is 20 hours a week. before students go out on the floor they are in the class room for 6 weeks! thats not long considering no one has ever touched hair before this. here is an interesting fact. each student practices about 6 different styles of a cut one time only before trying it out on customers! so on time praciced trims. one time practiced layers ect. now color... before a student trys it on a client they only use shaving cream! never real color so you really are practice.

as for being a strudent there. you learn nothing you need to know afor state boards. they infridge on student labor laws. when u see students out on the floor doing hair they are told to be there and do it or go home. the school makes a profit off hair services and students pay 18000.00 to go there. they also tell you to clean or go home(if you go home you dont get hours clocked in and you need 1600 hrs to get a licene)
they are shorted staffed.
the staff is young and most teachers are 21 or 22 and just finised school themselves. it would be like going to high school and graduating them going back to teach other students a few weeks later!
teachers belittle students, play favorites, and talk behind students back with other students
there is a day maker who is supposed to help students. i saw him once. in core(first 6 weeks)
you park on the street as there is no student parking, and there is no security guard ethior. hmmm a school campus and no security guard!
you do not learn anything else at this scool than you would at any other school. SAVE YOUR MONEY and go to school somewhere that is more established and organized!

PROS: you can say you went to paul mitchell the school. good speakers
CONS: unskilled poorly trained unorganized staff and addministration

If you are considering going to school here (for the skin academy, is what i'm speaking of) I would think again. Awful stateboard instruction, they talk up their program, but you will be paying for the name and that is all. The instrcutors play favorites and constantly favor those who they love. I personally went here and got my license on the first try at state board, but only because i had previous training. I wouldn't recommend going here. Take it from me, there are many other great schools with amazing education. Look around before choosing.

PROS: great equipment and clean
CONS: instrcutors create drama, high cost, horrible state board instrc.

Paul Mitchell The School is located in Costa Mesa corner or Baker and Harbor. It is a school for hair stylists and make up artists.
The students here are really cool! They look a little intimidating at first. There are a lot of punk rockers and goth kids at the school, but they are great at what they do. There are two phases to the school. Phase 1 offers you the cheapest price at only $10 a hair cut and $20 for color or highlghts. The students in Phase 1 are beginners and tend to take a little longer than usual. Don't be scared though, a teacher is always over looking any cut or color to make sure it is done right.
Phase 2 is about $5.00 more but these kids are ready to go out into the hair stylinh business, most only have a couple hundred hours to put in and they will graduate. They really know what they are doing by the time they hit phase 2 and it is deffinately faster service.
If you are looking for a great place for a cool up do, something different, these kids love to CREATE new styles so give them a shot.
They use nothing but Paul Mitchell products so you know you are getting the best.

Because I'm a girl who loves her long hair, it takes Paul Mitchell students longer to work on me than other people... but for the price, service and quality results I get at the end of the day, I think it's well worth it. Appointments should be called in roughly a week in advance; otherwise, no problems encountered. Recommended!

They did an awesome job on my hair! My stylist was Starr, she rocks! They have a mandatory 5-minute scalp massage, which is just wonderful. If they don't give it to you, your haircut is free! There was no "feeling" that I was within a school and being worked on by a student. They are all very professional (mine even had her own business cards) and they all seemed very caring and would comment on my hair as I was walking around/checking out...I am definitely going here from now on for all my hair services!

PROS: Fast service, friendly atmosphere
CONS:
