The best thing about this place is the setting over the water on San Diego harbor. you get nice views from most tables, and the food was IK. I'd like to give this place another try as I was not very hungry when i came here so nothing

They are in a great location and if you live in the Seattle area like me and need more outside sun time, this is where to go. The restaurant is sitting out on the pier so you are directly looking out into the water and sun is beaming you. It's wonderful! The food is ok, not the best I've had in San Diego, but the price is just right. I would certainly recommend a tourist to eat here.

The San Diego Pier Cafe is ok. The food is acceptable but not fantastic. The location is pretty cool. The restaurant is built on a doc out over the water so the views are really cool. Service is hit or miss.

The menu offers Mexican dishes along with many seafood specialties. I ordered enchiladas and a chefs salad with an Italian dressing. My friend had roasted salmon and fries. The view from the top floor is spectacular, as the restaurant is located in the middle of the pier it overlooks the ocean and you can see San Diego's down town also.

Pros: Waterfron dining, tasty food

We took some friends from out-of-town to the Pier Cafe last night. The experience was such an embarassing disappointment that I wonder if this is the same restaurant that received such a great review on this site?
The food was expensive, but it did not taste very good nor was it exceptional in any way. Most of the menu is casual dining fare (fish tacos, fish and chips) at fine dining prices.
The service was initially good. We were seated and our order was taken quickly. However, after our food arrived, the server did not reappear until dessert was offered at the end of the meal. No refills on drinks or water were offered.
The upstairs dining room was like an unfinished attic, there were no tablecloths or hanging plants as shown on the restaurant's website. The tables and chairs were small and five of us were seated at a table which might have seated two more appropriately.
We spent more than $100 for our meal, and I felt like I owed my friends an apology for subjecting them to such an mediocre dinner on their vacation!
For a more pleasant casual family dining experience, I would recommend the Anthony's Fish Grotto restaurants. They have a similar menu, but the food and service are so much better. You can always take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the view afterwards!

PROS: The harbor view (available for free outside the restaurant!)
CONS: Bad food, poor service, no ambiance, expensive!

Whenever I have a friend come in from out of town, they always want to do the "touristy" things - go to Balboa, go to La Jolla, and go to Seaport Village. Since, I am usually the one that is paying, I don't want to spend an exhorbident amount of money for dinner, but I don't want to be cheap with my friends.

Usually, I round out my day of looky-looing with Seaport Village, and dinner at the San Diego Pier Cafe. They have great food, quick service, and I don't have to break out my mad money to buy dinner. Even better, you are actually sitting out over the water, on an old pier, watching the sun go down over North Island or Point Loma. After dinner, or lunch, you can enjoy the walk down the waterfront.

PROS: Its on the water, Has Great Food
CONS: In the Tourist Mecca of San Diego - they're everywhere, but thats ok
