Since 1926 our Synagogue has been serving the local communities of Hollywood, Los Feliz and Silverlake.
The world has seen many changes since our founding but, as always, we remain ready to meet the needs and
challenges of today. Temple Knesset Israel is one of the oldest Conservative Congregations in Los Angeles, having originated in the home of the Rev. Mendel Pollyea in the early 1920's. In 1926 land was purchased and a Synagogue erected at 1258 Lyman Place. Since then Knesset Israel has accumulated an impressive record of service to the local Jewish Community, Jewish and humanitarian causes in general, and support for the State of Israel. In 1954 the Synagogue purchased a site close by and built a new Synagogue at its present location, 1260 N. Vermont Avenue. Temple Knesset Israel is known for the warmth and spirituality of its services, and is fortunate to have retained the services of its Rabbi & Cantor for many years. Rabbi Robert Elias has served the Congregation since 1986. Cantor Lee Greenberg has been with us since 1988, and Temple President stacy pesis has served in that capacity since 2007.Whether you are seeking spiritual enlightenment, cultural awareness, or merely friendship and companionship
you will always find a warm welcome at Temple Knesset Israel.

Regular Shabbat services are held each Saturday at 9:30 am. We also have High Holy Day services, services on each day of the Jewish festivals, and occasional Friday evening services. Our communal Passover Second Seder and Chanukah dinner are always popular providing equal amounts of fun and inspiration, and copious amounts of food.
