Editorial Description by Citysearch
The Scene
A silver sign and wood-bedecked exterior lure in neighborhood locals and couples for dinner dates and weekend brunch. The cream-colored, L-shaped dining room is lined with vibrant, tropical-themed paintings and big windows while a tangerine-hued back wall provides a splash of color. On warm days, the umbrella-laden sidewalk cafe is the place to be, while at night, candles warmly flicker atop white tablecloths inside.

The Food
A soft-shell crab starter, delicately battered in tempura, doesn't disappoint. Seafood gumbo is packed with generous chunks of fish, calamari, and shrimp over a sweet rice that's nicely balanced by the kicky red sauce. The flavorful baked squash entree, stuffed with curried tofu, could feed two. For dessert, green tea ice cream mochi is just sweet enough, its rice wrapping dusted in powdered sugar. Weekend brunch keeps the Asia-meets-America theme going with options like the lemon prawn and avocado scramble.

Decent but not great  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

By Jason M. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,220

I've been here twice for brunch. The location couldn't be more perfect, and the ambiance is certainly inviting. However, the food is just OK.

The menu items are inventive-sounding, but the execution is just mediocre - the food just doesn't pack much of a flavor punch. I've tried two of their omelettes and was not impressed.

Given that prices aren't exactly cheap and the wait on weekends is well over an hour, I probably won't come back again.

Really Great Brunch  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Paul C. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 886

Went here for brunch with a friend this weekend, and it was really good. I had a shitake mushroom and asparagus omelette; the eggs in the omelette were a perfectly consistent fluffy bit of heaven, the asparagus was crisp and tasty. The bacon I got on the side was thick, juicy and savory. The English breakfast tea was smooth and strong. I also got to try some polenta, fried, with a Thai-like spicy peanut sauce which was delicious (and I don't even like polenta...)

not too crowded of a restaurant 4 Star Rating - Very good

By fatbat69

Went there when I use to live next to Delores. It's a nice place for a medium priced dinner. Not crazy about the location because unless you are walking there, there is no valet parking and parking is really hard in that area. Good place for locals but bad if you are commuting there via car.

Pros: never really have long waits
Cons: parking is a bit difficult

Indeed the real zest of Asian cuisine 5 Star Rating - World class

Fresh ingredients, big portions worth their prices and efforts of going to Sanchez16th. Good vibe for dinning experience, a place where you can enjoy twilight sky with a few of walking traffics.

Pros: Two thumbs up

Simply wonderful 5 Star Rating - World class

Tangerine is absolutely my favourite dinner restaurant in San Francisco. Other reviews have emphasized how friendly the staff are, but to give you some idea, after the third visit we were on first name terms and looking at pictures of Fabien winning Miss Gay California. (At our encouragement -- in case I'm scaring off any straight people :-) The food is excellent, and you must try one of the iced mango margueritas.
A reservation is advisable, although there are usually tables free in any case after 9pm.

We LOVE Tangerine 5 Star Rating - World class

My friends and I always pick Tangerine for our dinning out and any special occasion dinner party for years. After read the hateful comment from that person. from my point of view, any restaurant that is not FAST FOOD like; Mc Donald... Guest could not just PICK where they want to seat!!! It would be up to the Host or the Manger to seat their guest to the right place. "Reserve sign" if it placed to any table in the restaurant there must be important and good reason why it their. Some people that go to Restaurant and want to pick or remove "the sign" must not go out STAY at home!!! cause at your home you can do anything you want! Next time you go out to other place that isn't your home PLEASE respect other people PLACE! You are lucky they didn't kick you and your party out after your BAD behavier to staffs there. We have been dinning at Tangerine for years never ever have any problem seating or dinning at Tangerine. All staffs are very nice and helpful to us, the food is always great. Our guests always enjoy their experince there. My friends and I will always come back to Tangerine and will highly recomment Tangerine to everyone.

Pros: Great service and food
Cons: Not yet found!
