Please, just spare yourself by going there. I was there I quit in a few days, but they didn't refund me a make-up kit for 2000!! dollars. I quit because I realized what kind of enterprise they are. They just want the money and that's it period and you have to clean the premises, which is also ridiculous, as me personally i went to Cinema beauty school, they are reasonably priced and at least you'll get some knowledge. The atrocious experience! Zero stars I would rate.

The teachers are ok, not impressed with any other aspect of this school though.

Pros: The school, teachers, students, loctaion, education

Cons: None

DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL THEY OVERCHARGE and if you are vulnerable they will suck you in with all positivity all spirutuality. They do not follow the rules for Postsecondary Schools they will charge you 2.000 for a makeup kit they paid way less than a 1.000 for and if you quit will not return anything under the guise, its used makeup which most items are never used they give you no receipt for this 2000, this is how they make money if you quit BE AWARE. Get receipts for everything and read the rules from the Bureau of Postsecondary Schools

I have wanted to be a makeup artist since I was a young girl. I looked at and researched several schools in southern California and even New York. When I came across MKC Beauty Academy, I knew the search was over. They offered everything I was looking for in a school. And they really questioned if this is what I wanted for my future. Knowing that they wanted students who were excited and passionate really set them apart from other schools. My classmates were from all over the united states. One was even from SWEDEN! Not only did I learn about makeup, I learned about cultures, people, lifestyles and diversity. When I look back I think this is so important. Working in the fashion and entertainment industry as a makeup artist, you come across so many different types of people and cultures and it almost prepared me to be able to start a conversation with anyone. One of the most rewarding things you take away with you from MKC is a family. The staff is amazing and so personable. My classmates are now life long friends of mine. The course is ten weeks and let me tell you, you won't want it to be over come graduation. It was hard work, I pushed myself everyday. So if you don't want to work hard, maybe it's not the place for you. But if you truly want to be a makeup artist, you will enjoy and appreciate all the hard work they require and you will create the makeup artist you want to be, not them. They give you the tools and the knowledge, you have to become that professional. I noticed other reviews mentioning the " Success Coaching" portion of the course. Honestly, I was so excited to be in that class. You really learn a lot about yourself. How people can judge you on a first impression, and that is really important because in the real world, do you get ten weeks to make someone think you are a professional? No. You literally get ten seconds to make a first impression and it can make you or break you. You then had the knowledge and were able to be aware of how you come off to people. Which I find interesting and important since you will be constantly meeting new people as an artist. The teachers are amazing! They are all working artists and since graduating I have even been able to work side by side with them on real jobs. I have even been able to assist Margaret Kimura herself on commercial sets. One of the GREATEST learning experiences of my life! The photographers I worked with for my final, which included respected photographer Patricia De la Rosa were so amazing. This week alone you will learn what it is truly like to be on set. The photographers are real working professionals in this industry and they don't go easy on you just because you are a student. In their eyes, at this point in the course you are a professional and expect for you what they would any other artist on a paid gig. They treat it as if you are on a real job and it prepared me more than anything. On my first real paid job as a working artist, I looked back and was so thankful for that week of photo shoots at MKC. I was able to be comfortable and confident on set. My portfolio turned out beautifully and I was so proud. One of my greatest accomplishments. I HIGHLY recommend this school! If you want to be a professional makeup artist doing print, fashion, television, film, commercial, event, and bridal makeup, MKC is the place for you to get the best education. You will not regret it. You will leave feeling confident in your skill and in your future. The best investment I've ever made in myself and in my career. I made lifelong friends and contacts. I learned how to really build my business, network, and market myself as a makeup artist. Now as alumni, the staff is constantly keeping in touch with me and sending me job opportunities, when I say constantly I truly mean it, I receive emails every week with job listings or helpful advice. I will never forget my ten weeks at Mkc Beauty Academy. You won't either....Good Luck!

Pros: Best teachers, staff, enviroment, products, knowledge in LA

Cons: It's only ten weeks.....it flew by!

MKC was a blast! Seriously the teachers were amazing over the 10 week course we must have had about 13 teachers, some were really tough, but taught us so much! Others were a lot of fun but still knew how to get the job done. This was a great experience and I wouldn??t trade it for anything. Sure I mean some parts are rough, but everybody there is really nice, especially Margret Kimura. In Success coaching its tough, and stressful sure, but afterwards you feel really good sort of like a big weight has been lifted. And it really helps in the field. Especially since you have the ??first impressions? talk in success coaching your just a bit more professional on jobs. I researched a lot of schools before making my decision and I felt that this was the right decision because this was the only school that I found that taught everything from makeup to business, lighting, and then gave us the opportunity for photo shoots at the end of school to leave with a full portfolio.
The photo shoots are so much fun. You work with Patricia De La Rosa (who I absolutely love!) and another photographer. Over Five Days, the thought is kind of intimidating at first. But after the first look you just want to keep on going and never stop.
Start applying now! You won??t regret it!

My Name is Crystal and I am and Education Counselor at MKC Beauty Academy. I would like to defend MKC.
First off, we have NOTHING to do with religion, It would be illegal to teach that in school, and I can guarantee that we do not teach religion. The course is not a "Therapy Class", it is called "Success Coaching" and is designed to help you succeed in the industry. How to act professional, how to develop a career plan, what NOT to say to clients, and how to react to hostile clients without loosing your professionalism. Nobody was ever asked to leave, or got kicked out because of their past.

Second, we use Make-Up For Ever... only the best professional line around! The only materials that need to be purchased, are materials to REPLENISH the kits. We spend $2k on each students make-up kit, and EVERYTHING is included in the kit. If a student has sensitive skin and can not use the face wash provided, then yes, you will need to purchase your own, for your skin type.

If anyone still has a mis-conception of MKC Beauty Academy, please visit our website if we can be of any assistance.

Do NOT go to MKC!!! I went to that school. ANd it was one of the worst experience of my life! First Margaret (The Head) tries to act like she's your friend and your hero. And its all bs! They don't give a care about anyone, just as long as they get their money. They also have some kind of wacky therapy class, they make you spill all your most deepsest and darkest secrets to them acting like its something you need to heal. ANd it's dumb! They use it against you and even GRADE you on it!!!? And they try to enforce religion and they even kicked a girl out because of her past!!
And I was stuck with the worst class in thier history and they treated the girls that were good and tried, like bs. They would just see the corrupted ones in our class and blame everyone! And they don't teach you jack about "the real world". Don't bother people, I have learned a lot more actually on set and shoots than that dumb school. And the kit they gave us at the time was bad! And plus that, we still had to buy way more stuff to add on to it!
I'm not just writing this for revenge or anger. But really don't go there. I wish I would of never gone to school, or at least not this one.
